I'd say stick to private messaging on this one. If I am correct, it is an ongoing situation.

Elk River AA State Champions- 2001 Boys & 2004 Girls

the basics, without getting into detail. hartzell done for the year, jake hansen suspended 10 games. Lee you can pretty much lock this up because im sure people will go into detail and it isnt anyone's business.
The curse lives on.....

actually thanks to the the constitution of the great United States of America it is our business because anything that happens in court sytems is subject to public record which is able to be seen by anyone.....we could probly even watch their proceedings on court tv......that is except for the people who had their tvs stolen.........hmmmm

hartzell and hansen

Post by hillhockey » Sat Dec 24, 2005 1:12 pm

it isnt important what happened, what matters is the fact that hartzell quit and the 10 game suspension for hansen...nothing else. im sure if you went to the white bear lake library and looked at the calls to police from the summer you could figure it out on your own.

Actually they cant just keep the press and public out....

Richmond Newspapers Inc. V. Virginia
USSC case that set this precedent...
After series of mistrials the judge closed the court to the public and the media, however two reporters for the Richmond Newspaper challenged it. Did this violate the 1st and 6th amendment? In a 7-1 decision, the Court held that the right to attend criminal trials was "implicit in the guarantees of the first amendment" that not only was it the freedom to speak, but the freedom to listen and to recieve information and ideas. The Court also noted that " the first amendment guaranteed the right of assembly in public places such as court houses. Than they argued for the 6th amendment which "In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial,"

And the point you made about the under 18 law would not hold up because take Globe Newspaper Co. V. Superior Court

Massachusetts law required trial courts to exclude members of the press and public from certain cases involving sexual offenses and testimony of victims less than 18 years old. In a trial involving a male who was accused of raping three minors, the court, acting in reference to the MASSACHUSETTS statute, closed the trial.....

Did the Massachusetts law violate the 1st amendments freedom of the press guarantee as applied to the states through the 14th amendment?

The court ruled that the MASS law violated the 1st amenedment recalling Richmond Newspaper v. Virginia and the the trial was re opened....

The only time when the press/public can be excluded is...

* regulated to avoid publicity that could prejudice a jury.
*may be closed at the behest of the government only if it shows "an overriding interest based on findings that closure is essential to preserve higher values and is narrowly tailored to serve that interest
*The accused may also request a closure of the trial; in such a case, it must be demonstrated that "first, there is a substantial probability that the defendant's right to a fair trial will be prejudiced by publicity that closure would prevent, and second, reasonable alternatives to closure cannot adequately protect the defendant's fair trial rights."

None of which would apply here...
----------------------------------------------------------------------

do the crime pay the time~

Jesus...

Post by Roofusstoofuss » Sat Dec 24, 2005 6:26 pm

Jesus is not truely thought to have been born Dec.25th but in the spring time..

This is because some believe that the Romans, as Christianity was spreading, decided to add the birth of Christ into the december holidays as a way to compete with the pagan holidays during that time....

The exact day of the Christ child's birth has never been pinpointed. Traditions say that it has been celebrated since the year 98 AD. In 137 AD the Bishop of Rome ordered the birthday of the Christ Child celebrated as a solemn feast. In 350 AD another Bishop of Rome, Julius I, choose December 25th as the observance of Christmas.

________________________

Best watch your 'H' Tv- Dont let the roofuss win~

Impressive work Roofuss. Although the way I heard it was that the Church wasn't trying to compete with the pagen holidays, instead it was trying to coincide with them. Much the same way that Constantine changed the sabbath from the traditional Saturday (which is still the Jewish sabbath, as well as for 7th day adventists) to Sunday to coincide with the pagen day of worship of the sun (Sun Day, get it?). This was done so as to attract more pagens to Christianity by making it more compatible with their traditions.

But nonetheless, Merry Christmas and Go Bears!!

i believe jesus was born on either april 14 or 17th--saw something on the history channel the other day. They figured it out plotting the stars so that a bright star would appear in the sky-was actually an alignment of the planets jupiter, saturn, and the sun or something like that. the year is supposedly 6 b.c.

december 25 was chosen b/c of the pagan winter solstice. in addition, the idea of a savior being born isnt originally christian.
