Elk River and Duluth East

Post by WatchOutFor44SteveMoore » Sat Dec 31, 2005 12:23 pm

ER and Duluth East are facing off on the 3rd of January at Elk River. This is a huge game for the 7AA section. It's also going to be on FSN. Any predictions?

I'm pullin' for the Elks in this one, which means East will probably win.

I think ER does win this game though, 3-2 in regulation. Hopefully ER has a sold out crowd.

Elks had a bad run at the Edina Tourney and the Schwan's Cup. This is a chance to swing things around give them great momentum for the next few months. I'm feeling a huge game out of Seibert and a hat trick from Andrew Malzahn.

Maybe Elk River played great in the tourney's but the teams they lost to were just better.

Elks deffinetly did not play well at the tournaments. Not to say that had everything to do with it because they played great teams but really they just didn't have together at all.

This is the Elks last chance to get a meaningful win in 7AA in the regular season.

I'm gonna take Elk River. I think that everybody has been jumping on the East bandwagon as of late, but I for one don't quite understand. The last five games they are 3-2, yes against good competition, but what concerns me is the way they have won. Being vastly outshot and mostly outplayed but getting by on the play of the goalie. Hey a goalie is very important, I know, but you cannot live and die by it. From the two games I watched on t.v. East had a very ineffective forecheck, almost no ability to break cleanly out of their zone, and really seemed to rely on the few scoring chances that they had. Again, you can win with this type of play, but in the long run, no.

Majin, I couldn't have said it any better. I completely agree with that assessment of East. To be totally honest, I will be surprised if the 7AA final isn't Rapids vs. Cloquet. They have the best goalies, but both teams don't rely so much on their goaltenders like East or Brainerd does.

Elks will win only because they're at home. The ref's will let Tony's boys get away with things they won't at the DECC.

East

Post by elliott70 » Tue Jan 03, 2006 11:36 am

I believe East is 4 - 1 - 1, in the last six games against top 10 calibar teams. The lose came against the #1 and defending champs.
Yes, their style maybe a little different then past teams (more defensive than offensive), but it seems to be working with 6 tough games over a ten day period.

I am not an East nor a Randolph fan, but they have to be considered a threat to be Section 7AA champs.

Elk River seems not to have found itself yet. Sarsland is also a good coach (but again I am not a fan). He will have to do something (IMHO) to get the TEAM together. But like the fans on here are saying, it is at home and maybe the boys will be fired up.

But if it doesn't happen early in the game I believe East will bury them (by 2 or 3 - probably need a good 6 to be considered buried).

I'll predict Elk River by a goal mainly since it's a home game with the crowd behind them.

Right now I am watching this game on FSN, and I can hear a voice shouting in the background. Is that the Elk River coach?? I hear he is vocal but damn, that’s loud!
