Looks like the Express are in the hunt for winning their Division in their first year. Pretty impressive! They are currently two points out of first but have three games in hand.

Lets Play Hockey had a nice article (April 13th issue) on Jamie Ruff. Ruff got a hatty and the game winning goal on a power play to end the Blizzards season.

I think Hopper had an off night and gave up two goals in the first period of game two. Largen came in and shut them out the rest of the game and earned the win. Next gave they gave Largen the start and he had a shutout. Pretty tough to not keep giving the kid starts when he keeps shutting them down. Good luck to Southern Minnesota as they head to the Finals. Tough teams out there, they'll have to continue to play well.

I was in Ohio for the National Tournament and I did walk away impressed with the speed on the Express squad. They had a very talented group of kids on that squad this year. I do have to say they are sore losers and need to grow up. I was reading some of their quotes after the loss to the Tornado and had to laugh. Comments like "Sometimes the good team doesn't win and that's just the way it is", "Those guys are classless. They don't play hockey for the right reasons" and my favorite "If we would have lost to a decent team but to lose to a team like that". It's funny how a team that isn't even "decent" can win three straight National titles isn't it?

The Express was by far the best team in Ohio.
The Express is a better team than Texas! That showed in the first game!

There is no doubt that the Express are a good team with some great speed on the first line, but why do you insist they were the best team? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the Tornado were 2-1 versus the Express this season. I loved the fact the Express believed the second game against Texas would be the same as the first. Having not seen Texas play as poor all year as they did in game one, (remember, the Tornado were off about three weeks before the tourney and every team responds differently to long layoffs) I knew game two between these two teams would be totally different. Our defense didn't let the Express forwards "cherry pick" like game one and if they had the puck the Tornado took them out at the blue line. Defensively, their wasn't a team even close to being as good as Texas in the tournament. Stonehouse, Blatchford, Ludwig, and Messier are as good as it gets. Just as you thought game one proved who was the best in the tournament, I believe the game on Friday proved who was the best. Not to mention we went 5-0 against Bozeman this year who had the No. 1 seed. How did you guys fair against them? Oh yeah, you lost 7-1 in your only meeting. I just find it funny how you guys can't give credit to a team that was clearly better. I guess it makes winning BACK TO BACK TO BACK NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS all the more enjoyable. Hope to see you guys again next year. One last thing, congrats on a great season. As a first year team I thought you club was outstanding.

I see how it is...."OUR" team. I have no affiliation with the Express. I just know what I saw. I watched the games and saw a different Texas team between Wednesday and Friday. I really don't care about what your record was with this team or that team. It realy doesn't mean a thing. The thing that matters is that a first year team came into the league and rode it out to the end where Texas had a hard time getting by them and also made Texas look foolish in the first game. Even though your team might have won in the end doesn't mean your the best team. If Texas is allowed a off game so is the Express. The Express' offense was 30+ goals ahead of Texas this season. Also 4 guys do not make a team!
I guess we will see what the Express do next year.

See now I can respect that answer.....Commenting on the success of a first year team. As for only 4 players, I was only talking about the Texas defense. You might want to look and see who lead the league in goals scored this year. In fact, we have 6 or 7 kids going on to play D1 hockey next year. Also, ask around and you will be told the division of Texas, Texarkana, Wichita Falls, Springfield, and Santa Fe was the toughest in the NAHL this season. I would say going 42-14-4 against those quality teams would make for a "decent" team. Besides, I never commented that the Express wasn't a solid team. I'm only commenting because of the classless whiney comments made by Express players and there fans after the game that Texas was not good. There is nothing wrong with believing your team is better as a fan or a player, but when you make the kind of comments they did publicly, it doesn't do much for their character. For the record, we won the National Championship last year the same way. We lost the opening game and won the rest, but according to your logic that means Texas wasn't the best team last year either.

im a fan of the express but i was also disappointed to see the article in the paper where they said nothing good about the texas team that beat them...maybe it was mentioned right after the game in the heat of the moment but it still was poor sportsmanship...give the texas team some credit they did just go back-back-back that is a tough thing to do nowadays and they also beat a very good bozeman team...express had nothing to hang their heads from in the first place they were a new team to the league

Hey sterfry....you probably are right about the heat of the moment. I was just disappointed. I actually loved watching the Express play. They obviously have a great staff and were able to put together a great group of kids in their first season. Like I said before I was very impressed and can give credit where credit is due. They are a very exciting offensive team and I'm sure this rivalry is only beginning. Texas is just a tough team to beat because they have a solid offense with a great defense, plus they play a physical style of hockey that is played by all the teams down South. Wednesday nights game was a laugher no doubt about it, but I knew Texas would bring a different team the second time around. I'm not trying to put down the Express, I was merely stating my disappointment in the comments made following the game.

Guess I have to throw my two cents in on this one. First Congratulations to Texas, it is never easy to repeat. As for So.MN, a big raspberry for being sore losers. You beat a team once, great job, you lose the second go round, be big enough to say job well done. All we have heard since then is how the best team didn't win. Well guess what the proof is in the pudding. If you were truly the best team you would be wearing the crown right now. Don't belittle your program by whining, you had every reason to hold your heads high and command respect. Now after several mindless comments that the press has gotten ahold of people think you are a bunch of prima donnas. Kind of sad, winning is geat, but do it with class. The sad thing is I am one of So MN's biggest fans and I was embarrased to hear the comments.
