Gordon has 83 points and yes he scored a bunch in a few blowouts, so have all the other big names.
GIVE EXAMPLES
Ben is hounded more than any other player in the state and yet he still produces. If he had a pure goal scorer with him his stats would be out of this world.
OPINON- HOW DO YOU KNOW?
BEFORE YOU MAKE A STATEMENT THINK TO YOURSELF IF YOU CAN GIVE A VALID REASON, OR MAYBE EVEN A SINGLE REASON AT ALL

I'm actually from the metro and watch lots of hockey. Gordon will win it because he is very deserving. Watch Kilpatrick, Garrity, Peterson, Hawkins and so on and see if they have a shadow or two the whole game. They don't!

There is now way Gordon should win Mr. Hockey. He is good but he plays against the worste teams in state. Im sure if a team like Jefferson or Eden Prairie played those awful teams they would have more then 70 points. Here in the metro we actually have competition. And Hawkins and Peterson get doubled up everygame too, and the produce against the some of the best teams in the state.

dandunnigan: This is an Opinion board if I'm not mistaken.

Gordon playing weak teams is way overblown: Facts below.

AHA: Kilpatrick 66 points out of teams 156 goals. 42% scoring.
13 Blowouts by six or more goals
2 losses, 1 tie and 1 2 goal win: 4 tight games

NSP: Garrity 61 points out of teams 145 goals. 42% of scoring.
6 Blowouts.
4 losses, 4 one goal wins, 3 2 goal wins. 11 tight games.

Eden Prairie: Hawkins 62 points out of teams 124 goals. 50% of scoring.
5 Blowout wins.
3 losses, 3 ties, 3 one goal wins, 1 two goal win. 10 tight games.

International Falls: Gordon 83 points out of teams 125 goals. 65% of scoring.
6 Blowout wins.
3 losses, 2 ties, 5 one goal wins, 3 two goal wins. 13 tight games.

Now which teams scored the most? AHA and NSP. Int'l Falls and Eden Prairie were in a dead heat.

Who had the most blowout wins. AHA in a landslide. The other 3 were all close.

Who had the most close games? International Falls!

Which player scored the most % wise for his team? Gordon at 65%!

Now all of these players along with others would be deserving of the award. I also stand by my statement that Gordon is shadowed at least 80% of the time, while the others are not. I have seen all of them play a number of times. Furthermore, look at how many players from AHA, and NSP will be playing D1. How many from the Falls? 1

borgen

Post by jr » Wed Feb 19, 2003 5:41 pm

I did not mention Borgen because the same complaints are made about him. I believe that he will be Ben's closest competition in the voting.

I posted only to disprove those that continually bring up a few games that the Falls or Mahtomedi win big in.

Again, I will say there ar many deserving players like there are every year.

Gordon has proven his worth at the high school level, selects (leading scorer in USA tourney), USHL Offensive player of the week the second week he was there. He is the real deal and will most likely win the award. If not I will be the first to come on board and congratulate the player that does win.

Mr. Hockey-GORDON

Mr. Gordon will win Mr. Hockey hands down. He makes players around him much better. When he is on the ice the puck comes to him, like its a magnet. Mr. Gordon also is super person, that's probably his best quality.

It really doesn't matter if you play in "blowouts" or "close games" or anything else that you want to try to define. What matters is if you're getting an inordinate amount of points against terrible competition, or if you're simply playing a very weak schedule all the time.

Yes, I Falls' schedule is weak. So is Holy Angels conference schedule. So is Mahtomedi's. I'd be surprised if a kid like Hawkins or Hartung or my brother won the award, but to dispute that they're playing WAY better competition than guys like Gordon, Borgen, or Kilpatrick is ludicrous. Whether or not those Lake guys would score as many points as the others given the same competition is not something we can prove or disprove. But, it shouldn't be very hard to say that International Falls is not playing nearly the quality of competition that Eden Prairie is playing. Take a look at Lee's page with the toughest schedules. There are 3 northern teams on that list of 20, and they are all playing very tough non-conference schedules.

The bottom line is that we can argue about this until we are blue in the face, but either Ben Gordon or Brent Borgen will win this award. I'll go with Gordon, simply because he's getting more hype. But, one of those 2 guys is going to win Mr. Hockey, and that's all there is to it.

This award usually picks a deserving winner. The Heisman is a complete joke because it goes to one of the best players on one of the best teams every year instead of the best player. So those that argue for AA teams are making the Heisman argument.

Arguments can be made about schedule but then we get into team arguments instead of individual arguments. Example: International Falls played Hibbing twice 2-0 and 1-0, Eveleth twice 4-0 and 3-1, Virginia twice 1-1 and 2-1. None of these teams are powerhouses but gave the Falls all they wanted. This is no different then Jefferson playing Eden Prairie or NSP playing Hill. Tight games anyway you slice it.

The way we can sort this out is by how they have done against similar competition. Juniors, Selects or high powered teams. Gordon stacks up very well in these categories.

I Falls beat Greenway twice: 5-2 gordon 5 points. 5-2 gordon 3 points. Now Greenway has had somewhat of a down year but they have beat some very good teams and played some others very tight. Tied Roseville and beat AHA.

Ben Gordon is the real deal!

I

If you have followed this board at all this year you will realize I have nothing but praise for Borgen. If he wins he will be very deserving, as will anybody else that wins.

Borgen and Gordon have proven themselves at all levels and are good friends.

okay, Borgen is better then O Regan for one simple reason...Borgen stands out even when he is playing against a high caliber team such as Blake or Breck. I also believe that Sam Kelly is a dumbass for going to Hill Murray from Mahtomedi because if you look at the standings, Mahtomedi has a better chance of going to state than Hill does.

My guess

Post by TopShelf20 » Wed Feb 19, 2003 8:22 pm

my guess is that Inrique Iglasias is the top pick. Ricky Martin is a close second followed by the famous *NSYNC. I hope *NSYNC gets it though

Of course Mahtomedi has a better chance of going to "state", but if I were Sam Kelly and I had the option, I'd take my 25% shot at the AA tourney over my 50% shot at the A tourney any day of the week.

ACTUALLY HILL HAS A 0% CHANCE OF GOING
AND THE REASON WHY SAM WENT TO HILL WAS BECAUSE HIS PARENTS PUT CRAZY IDEAS IN HIS HEAD
AND SAM IT DOESN'T MATTER WHERE YOU'VE BEEN IT'S WERE YOU'RE GOING
