Warriors

Hey Slappy! You say you want some info on the Warriors? Well maybe I could help you out there buddy! I've loved hockey my entire life, living in Warroad it's hard not to, and this season has to be the most unbelievable. Not only because the Warriors have the best record in the state, but they have also, as a team, gone through many trials this season. A sophomore student died this past December and as you know, Warroad is a very small school, so this loss was very difficult, and very untimely. Warroad's lineup includes a handful of sophomores so it was extremely difficult for them. Then Ben Bengtson, a sophomore, breaks his leg in the Bemidji game and is out for the rest of the season. He was a second liner, hard worker, great asset to the team. But the Warriors rebounded, together, and continued to win games. Then comes Kyle Hardwick's freak accident in practice and he breaks his ankle. This was serious blow as Hardwick was starting defensemen, leadin defensemen in the state for points, as a sophomore. All throughout the season though, Warroad's boys have stuck it out, and played like champs. Warroad citizens could not be any prouder of our boys and their "never say die" work ethic. It's the team unity that makes them so special, with the lovely locks in the warrior black and gold, and the studly senior tuxedo picture, these boys are one in a million! So if you went by what other posters said about the warriors, you'd have a warped vision of what really is. And what really is, is a team that's going to shock everyone, all those naysayers who say they're a bunch of thugs..well they're got another thing comin. as long as theirs posters like you SS, Warroad hockey will continue to have some support..thanks for your respect..those boys really do deserve it.

Shooter - Just curious, have you ever seen these touted Warriors play? For someone who is putting them and Tony up on a pedestal, I would hope you. Listening to "hearsay and innuendo" sometimes can lead one astray. Also, unless you have an exact minutes played to points scored analysis for each candidate(or non-candidate), let's not have that cloud this issue. Otherwise we fall into the old "he said, she said" trap.

Stu33,

My Pleasure Stu.

Just calling a spade a spade. Folks should show a lot more respect for a team that has been able to do the things that Warroad has been fortunate enough to accomplish this season.

I'm sure that many here would agree that heart felt condolences concerning the untimely death of a friend and comrad as well as injuries sustained in battle are in order and I for one am sending mine. I plan to be up there to see them play against TRF which by the way is another fine bunch of players from section 8A.

You have contributed to the kind of insight that I was hoping to see when this Topic was created, and I would like to hear much more from those who rightfully so, love Tony, and the Warriors.

How about some stats on some of his other teammates or any other stories that could be shared in regards to the comradery that exists between this team and their coach as well as what have you.

Nows the time to let it all hang out!

L<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/nerd.gif ALT="8o"> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /alien.gif ALT="0]"> E, SL<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/nerd.gif ALT="8o"> PSH<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/nerd.gif ALT="8o"> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/nerd.gif ALT="8o"> TER.

(...a legend in his <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/nerd.gif ALT="8o"> wn mind...)

slappy: Read my post closely. Yes you did mention Gordon in a Selvog thread. Secondly, all throughout this thread and others people keep bringing up Gordon. That is what I stated in my post.

Selvog is a very good player but to speculate on points is mindless. Gordon and many others have sat or played very little in certain games this year. Furthermore, Gordon is shadowed constantly by 1 and sometimes 2 players. This is a tiring argument. Both are good players that will play after high school. Again, I find it interesting that so many people continue to compare there favorite player with Gordon. I wonder why??

jr,

Fair enough, but I never said that Gordon's name was not

mentioned. I simply demonstrated that comparisons between

the two were not made by me.

There has been plenty said about Ben Gordon and I've enjoyed the majority of the 'respectful' threads written in regards to his and his teams season, and have learned many excellent things about him and his team, as well as the great tradition in International Falls.

But this Topic is entitled 'What about Tony Selvog'? and it is my intention to provide a venue for the discovery of what goes into the making of a season that produces the best winning record in the state and all that it entails.

Tony Selvog, as well as his coaches and teammates, school, community, and their competitors have very much to do with just that. Now what positive statements can you add to this thread, that you haven't already?

And Angus, I haven't put anybody up on any kind of pedestal.

Selvog and his Warriors have done a fine job of climbing to the top all by themselves. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /laugh.gif ALT=":lol">

Having said that. BIAFP,

I respect opinions if they make sense. From what I can make of this guy, if he has any kind of decent grades he's going to be on his way to D1. Warroad will win the state tourney against either Sec.5 or I Falls. I don't think there are any better two teams up north than Warroad or I Falls. Warroad is more physical and thus I think better. Remember, what is borderline cheap in regular season is just physical hockey at the end.

Hockey is a tough sport. Crybabies need not apply.

When the kid dishing out the punishment also has the 2nd most points in the state, I'm sure that some bigger eyes than ours are upon him. If he plays in the tourney I'll give you the final verdict.

I personally couldn't care less that I Falls lost. Probably makes Warroads trip to the title that much easier though. (if they don't choke too!) Imagine if Warroad and Blake both choked. Talk about your I couldn't care less state tourneys. But I really don't think that will happen and I am picking Blake vs. Warroad right now!

Warroad is a shoe in and only Lourdes will challenge Blake.

"coach" has to give up his first class seat.

Post by coach » Wed Feb 26, 2003 1:38 am

Since "coach" has been riding first class since 2002, he won't be wearing a "bluejacket" on the train. When looking out the window of the train, all I see are "Bears" and native "Warriors". The Warriors are on the war path.

The "bear" is knawing at a dead "knight", convered in "Red" with its own blood. Seems the "knight" had thrown up a bunch of "spuds" he had eaten sometime earlier.

An "oriole" flying high is soon to come down towards earth. Its flying much higher than it should.

An "Eagle" who had an "Excel" ent view last year looks on from afar. And has to grow more before it can swoop down on its prey again. Another "Eagle" further south down the tracks seems to be waiting to cra* on this train. Anything flying from that far south seems to always take a big cra* somewhere near the Capital City though. (Lay off those White Castles, must not have any in Rochester.) <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /laugh.gif ALT=":lol">

In the distant horizon a dead "Bronco" and "Mustang" are ready for the glue factory, again.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/roll.gif ALT=":rollin">

We passed a train near Stillwater called the "Zeypher". Warroad in 8AA

Post by captkirk » Wed Feb 26, 2003 12:26 pm

That so called slashing occured against a player that, seconds before, tried to take out Selvog's legs by submarining him. (A typical LOW move). The player did a marvelous acting job. He then returned to the ice in 25 sevconds.
We will see who gets the college attention after the state tournament. Selvog has been a top player since his freshman year where he was named to the all tournament team. If his Dad had been the coach, like in Gordon's case, his stats would have far exceeded Gordon's. Instead Warroad choose to develop a team.

This isnt even up for debate? Gordon is the better player of these two, and is the best player in the state. Gordon has had mr. hockey wrapped since that state tournament of last year. He has been successful in high school hockey, the ushl, and every other elite team he has played on in the off season. Gordon is well deserving of mr. hockey, and nobody can change that.

Selvog deserves to be a candidate for Mr. Hockey! Whether he could actually win is not the fans decision, but he is the best in 8A and quite possibly in 8AA.

I saw a videotape of Selvog's slash. It was a moderate chop to the left thigh of the opposing star player. It deserved a minor penalty if that.

I saw a videotape of the 'slash'. It was a moderate slash to the left thigh of the opposing star player. Acting was definitely involved and a minor, if that, would have been the right call.
