Conferences - get rid of them

I recall reading about two months ago that one of the reasons for some of these blowouts we see is because of obligatory conference play. I didn't grow up in MN so I have few things to learn. It just doesn't seem to me that these conferences are of any value except in a nostalgic sense. If that is the only value then there should be no need for obligatory play. Who really cares who the conference champion is anyway? It seems that section champ is more important.<br><br>Is there any valid reason for preserving conferences? <p></p><i></i>
