Great offensive talent... D struggle
Holy angles seems to have great offensive talent. But how does their Defensive side look for this upcoming season. Who will be playing D.

Holy Angels D
Holy Angels will find defense for the upcoming 2005-2006 season. Believe me when I tell you that the best coach in the state knows how to find talent. He is pure genious when it comes to landing talent. Rest easy son the school knows how to get the players they need to win and will do so again this year.

Re: Holy Angels D
Let's wait till the season starts. I know that Trebil will have his D ready. Remember, Guy Olson is the best D coach around.

________________________________
2005 GIRLS STATE CHAMPS!
2002 & 2005 BOYS STATE CHAMPS!!
GO STARS!!

Re: Holy Angels D
zamman.. i know you are a big fan of aha. who do you think will step up from JV. cuz i know Brutlag and Cooper will be the top 2 D. But other than that, who does Guy have to work with

Re: Holy Angels D
Nate Hanson, and Jake Gullickson are still around and I have seen a couple of the JV players grew and they will step up. I am sure that Guy will have them ready.
Look at the JV goalies when they start playing, they are huge...

________________________________
2005 GIRLS STATE CHAMPS!
2002 & 2005 BOYS STATE CHAMPS!!
GO STARS!!

D
Lets not let this topic get off subject because it is a valid question.

In high school hockey you really only need four defensemen to have a quality D core. The fifth and sixth Dmen usually don't see the ice in big games. Reasons for this are: lack of games, short periods, lack of physical play (D just don't take the pounding and the stress of being banged around every night like they do in higher levels). Thus you can have a quality team and a great D core with only four defensemen.

AHA already has three solid Dmen with Cooper, Brutlag, and Gullickson. They really only need one more quality dman and they always have talent at the JV level to step in and play quality varsity hockey.

Also, if there isn't a Dman that Trebil finds suitable to play with those three, I wouldn't be suprised if he moved a forward back to play D ( just like he did with Crowley when he coached him at Jefferson).

AHA will be fine and will have another great team this year.

And lets just keep this thread on topic please, for the sake of everyone, because it gets so tiring when they go off on tangents!

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... iakChew at: 8/20/05 11:41 am

Re: D
kokiak. your right on the money. trebil needs only 4 d to contend, however, what about injuries? always problematic. one two-way player is b. dezeller (sp). aside from being a solid d-starter on any other high school team this kid is talented and will make the transition to juniors seamlessly!

Re: D
AHA hasn't been problematic with injuries in the past, I don't know why this year would be any different. But you can't help injuries and can't plan for them, only taking that issue if it comes.

Oh, name a better D coach besides guy olsen. Look at the quality Defensemen that have come out of that program in the last few years. Just my thoughts!
AHA 2002 & 2005 State Champions!

Re: D
KC nice to see you on the board again. Hope you have a good year!!!
They have four good D with Coop, Gullickson, Brutlag and Smith. They brought him up last year when they needed him. He has improved and will be ready to step in at D. There is also a younger Cure (name?) maybe he plays as good as big brother??? They will be fine. Seems to me that Brutlag got some size also....
________________________________
2005 GIRLS STATE CHAMPS!
2002 & 2005 BOYS STATE CHAMPS!!
GO STARS!!

Re: Great offensive talent... D struggle
I would look for Joe Keske to show up in the defensive line up - he was on JV last year but did not see much ice time due to an injury. Saw him play in the college league this summer and he definitely held his own against the big guys.

Both goaltenders are returning which adds defensive strength.

Re: D
wild and gandyman...injuries will occur. agreed. i would submit that the aha third line will be solid and remiss of any two-way player that gandyman alludes to. kodiak...your right on as usual. keep it coming...the season is upon us shortly. go stars.

Re: D
Not only the past few years....look at what Guy did with Jefferson back in the early 90's! I bet you that Ben Clymer would look you in the eye and tell you that Guy's the best...if he could see over his Stanley Cup ring that is.

JD, right on! Clymer has one of the hardest shots I have ever seen. He gets that thing off so quickly.
AHA 2002 & 2005 State Champions!

AHA Defensmen
Joe Keske, Ben Morris, and Colby Courrier-Oster were three of AHA's better jv defensmen last year. Courrier-Oster will be a physical presence if they bring him up to var, but will probably take some dumb penalties. Morris played some varsity this year in conference play.

Although they lost a couple of good defensemen from last year's team, it really doesn't matter.

The Academy of Holy Angels Boys Hockey Team will not lose one game next year, including their tilt against Shattuck.

There. Best "D" Coach
Kodiak Chew:

Let me see would I rather be coached by Guy Olson or PHIL HOUSLEY !

I would think that the high majority would pick Housley!

AHA, you Monsters
Forget about Holy Angel defense. They will be fine. I'd be more concerned with their forwards lack of body strength. The way to beat HA is to take the body against their shooters. If anyone knows the team well they know that the team's front line is fast but physically embarassing. And I mean every darn one of them. Their demanding schedule against Prior Lake, Farmington, New Prague, Northfield should allow the team some needed rest after they get pummeled by Shakopee and Red Wing. Wow what a schedule.

Take the body.

AHA season tie breakers should be decided by putting out the top 5 HA forwards that think they can do ten push ups. (legal ones guys, chins to the floor )

AHA, You Monsters
it isnt the boys hockey team's fault what conference they play in, not many of the other sports can compete with the bigger schools. they do play one of the toughest non conference schedules in the state. its funny that you say that teams should be taking the body against aha. teams such as moorhead have been trying to use that tactic and have yet to beat them. aha once again will be dominating state again next year, god i love it.

HASH, I love it too! Just because it bothers so many people that AHA wins. Go ahead, make your excuses and say what you're going to do against them. It really doesn't matter because untill you beat them, it just doesn't matter. Lets see it guys!
AHA 2002 & 2005 State Champions!

Re: AHA, You Monsters
It's great the you guys can giggle to each other about all the success AHA has in hockey...for that matter they have success in every sport in which they participate. Comments and attitudes like that are the exact reason people have strong opinions about private vs public and recruiting. A little public humility would go a long way. Hopefully, timmyo won't mind me reposting part of his post, but in his words

Quote:
We post and predict, rant, ramble and rave about alot of topics on this forum, alll dealing with hockey and most legitimate, but some of us sometimes lack a little perspective. When it's all said and done, as your son drives away it becomes pretty clear that the game is just a game. It's a great game, to be sure, but no matter what it's only a vehicle - whether to someplace better or to someplace worse is up to each one of us.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... >wild77 at: 8/30/05 12:29 pm

Re: AHA, You Monsters
Oh come on wild77, with all the crap AHA gets on this board, you're telling me we should learn some humility. Give me a break. On the odd occasion we make a joke, or what not, you can't take it. Give me a break. What a joke!

And I'll have you know, I have never made personal attacks against kids, people, or any team on this board.
