rankings

Post by KodiakChew »

I agree with AHA at number one, they didn't lose that many players and should be very solid this year. But I don't know about Moorhead. I'm serious when I say I really don't know anything about them, they are usually pretty good. But didn't they lose a lot of players from last year's team? And if so, why do you have them ranked so high? Do they have a lot of really good players coming up from jv and/or transfers? Just wondering.

Pre Season Top 5

Post by Gphrhcky22 »

These Centennial and WBL groups finished 1 and 2 as Bantams. Each one a state title and finished runner up between the MN Hockey and VFW tourneys. I can't remember which team won which tourney. Too bad only one can win the section. AHA should be in the top 5 as well. It will be usual group of teams jockeying for position after those three.

I'd like to say it's so but it ain't. It would be unfair to say the cupboard is bare, but theres not a great deal in it. They will have some good games and some not so good and they stand a good chance of being Section 8 champs, but you will see in the Christmas tourney that this is not a top 5 or even a top 10 team. Not a chance unfortunately.

I think you're dreaming Empire...I'm an Elk River fan too but thats pretty high up there for preseason. They're lacking at the goalie position so until I see a few games and they prove they can win even without the quality of goaltending they've had in the past I can't rank them even in the Top 10.

Don't start calling me a doubter either, I'm just a realist. Trust me I'll be talking ER up once the season starts and I have something to back me up.

Offense is again the lacking point, we get to see who will be stepping up in the absence of the likes of Ostroot, Scatterelli and Godlewski. Don't get me wrong, Warhol will be missed, but I think that there is a good core of D coming back and can easily make up for whatever lack of proficiencies (I'm a college guy now ) the Elks have in the net. I'm not trying to sound like a fair weather fan, I'm just saying you have to look at the facts. The Elks have a lot to prove before I can rank them as high as you think they should be.

What I mean by talking them up when they start winning is that I will always support them but I'm not going to call them Top 5 when I don't believe that they are.

I don't doubt the coaching ability of Sars but there is only so much he can do...I hope I'm wrong about all this, I'd love to see the Elks come out flying but I just really don't see it right now.

Roseau

I think Roseau is going to knock off Moorhead this year. Moorhead lost to many starters from last season. Roseau is definately a top 5 team and the one to beat in 8AA.

The Rams have to prove themselves before they can get in the top 5. Don't underestimate the Spuds. True, they lost talent, but they have a wonderful team returning. If the Rams get to state, they will have a fun team to watch.

ER next year

Post by NeedsMoreCowbell »

Empire and husky both need a little clearing up: Seibert is a solid goalie, been in the high school program 2 years already and will step up great this year. They have plenty of D returning despite losing Gods, and i don't think you can even come close to counting out their offense. The junior line of last year (petey, koehler and malzahn) are gonna turn some heads this year. The team as a whole is a really fast team, I think the story will be the same as it has been the last couple years: on any given night they could beat any team or conversely lose to any team; it all depends who shows up.

BTW, how's Winona going for you Empire?
and screw the Yanks, and the White Sox - the Cubs are the only real Chicago baseball team I know.

NMC:

I agree with your take on the elks, except that TSeibert has a major role to fill and the jury is still out. TS is a good goalie, however has played minimal varsity hockey. Furthermore, in goaltending consistency is the name of the game and he needs to further prove himself night in and night out. Solid goalie, nice young man, and I wish him well.

Also note, Brett Peterson (Petey) an Andover, Minnesota young man is one of the top performers in the Elite League I both in goals and assists. Also, a good young man and a great addition to the elks club. Definitely junior and or college material!

Regards,
mnhockey39

Cowbell- Very good preview of the Elks. I think Siebert will do just fine at goalie, especially with the way Sars has them play D. He did fine last year, I think he will only do better this year. As always, its about people stepping up in the absence of others.

Winona is good, liking it so far. I found a great girl so that makes it all the easier. How's Collegeville?
