Cloquet is a rival, but I like to see northern teams take it to the cities teams. Minnetonka has been off the radar for some years now it seems.

PS-Why does CEC play the 2nd rate (IMHO) teams from the cities. Rapids and East play the best, like Jefferson, Edina, Eden Prairie and Elk River.

Perhaps there isn't room and these teams are already locked in. To CEC's credit I will say the White Bear Lake game is a good one.

1st Tier schools

Post by Bart82 » Wed Nov 30, 2005 1:31 pm

I think Cloquet tries to play the best teams that they can- just like anyone else. The system is a little self serving in that the top teams like to play each other and it leaves very little room for anyone else.

The conference schedule plays a HUGE role as well. Elk River and Eden Prairie only have so many games to give.

My question is just how many "top tier" programs are out there. I think you'd be hard pressed to come up with any more then 10 in any GIVEN year.

So, after the first top seven for that season, Cloquet is just as well off playing teams like Minnetonka, Maple Grove, Burnsville, etc.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... >Bart82 at: 11/30/05 1:33 pm

Cloquet

I dont know much about minnetonka or where this game is being played. However, I give the edge to Cloquet. They have one line that can do a ton of damage and a great goaltender, probably the best in the state. That combination makes C-E-C dangerous in any game. If this game is in Cloquet, they will have a huge advantage, they have some of the best fans around. I don't care where this game is being played, I say C-E-C 4, Minnetonka 1

I know they play WBL next Friday, Dec 9th at home... I think that if you look at it CEC plays some tougher teams this season... they are my pick out of 7AA.

The SLinger

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... slinger at: 12/1/05 11:55 am

I think Cloquet will do well against these better teams. (White Bear, Edina, Blaine) I think Cloquet will take the Skippers 5-2. Tyler Johnson with 2 goals. Reid Ellingson with 22 saves. It hurts to have three senior impact players out with Steve Mldoznyiec (F), Jake Anderson (F) and senior stud Dylan Roy (D).

cloquet will avenge their loss to grand rapids with a 6-3 victory over minnetonka. cloquet will get goals by tyler johnson, jason syrett, sever lundquist, and kyle olson. ellingson will be solid with about 20-25 saves.

Should be a great game in Cloquet. Minnetonka is a good club but will not get the biscuit past the brick wall of Cloquet. Ill say 3-0 Cloquet. Shots 30-25 in favor of CEC. Tyler Johnson with 2 tallies and Jason Syrett with the clincher.

Cloquet vs. Minnetonka

Post by slapshot33 » Fri Dec 02, 2005 3:00 pm

Minnetonka looks to bounce back after a disappointing game and terrible 3rd period against Maple Grove on Tuesday.

The edge goes to Cloquet who defeated the Skippy's last year at the Pagel Center. The CRC should be rockin' in their home opener....

Prediction: Cloquet 4 - Skippers 3

Wow! I really thought CEC would come out flying. Any details on the game. The shots are even, but was the game play really? I'm surprised by this result.

Surprise?

Post by Bart82 » Sat Dec 03, 2005 12:02 am

GR19,

This result is not surprising to some of us in the Twin Cities. I'm more of a "Northwest Suburban" guy but I saw Tonka scrimmage up in Elk River a few weeks ago and I thought that there was a lot of promise there.

This idea that Tonka was a "2nd Tier" metro school I thought was a bit off [see my earlier post] as I think there are only a handful of "stud teams" a year and then you can throw the next 20 in a barrel on any given night.

Interesting about Minnetonka. Last time I recall them having a really good team was 1995. That year Rapids got as high as #3 in the state and Minnetonka was #1. I agree with your statement about the top 20. I think teams like Rapids, CEC, East, Apple Valley, and Minnetonka would probably have close games but sometimes one team gets some good bounces and runs away with a game. I assume Minnetonka had some rebounds and nice deflections to get the puck past Ellingson. That was GR's strategy according to the coaches comments in the paper and it worked.

GR 19,

I think you're right. Minnetonka had great teams in the 80s and 90s and they have been "off the radar" since that time. A couple of good teams - but never great.

As I said, they had a nice little team when I saw them up in Elk River and they capable of putting the puck in the net. But doesn't Cloquet have an outstanding goalie?

Yes, Ellingson is probably one of the top 5 goalies in the state. CEC coach Esse said after the CEC/GR game that if Ellingson didn't play an amazing game Rapids wins by 2 or 3 in regulation. He's fundamentally sound. Rapids had to get some tip ins and rebounds.
