Chris Earl

Post by frozen » Sun May 22, 2005 10:10 pm

I just got done watching this weeks SPORTSZONE on NBC and at the end of the segment, Chris announced that this was the last SPORTSZONE for him and that he was moving to Eau Claire for a anchor position on the newscast.

I believe I speak for a lot of people when I say I'm sad to see Chris go. He always gave a very intelligent insight and in depth analysis of everything to do with hockey in the northland. I loved reading everything he had to say about high school hockey in the northland. Not many can appreciate high school hockey in Duluth, like a CEC-East game or a section 7 finals at the decc, but Chris can. He showed it in his highlights for high school hockey.

Althought SPORTSZONE was not in existance during the 2004-2005 season, my senior year at Hermantown, I wish it would have been. I know that show will be ten times better when high school hockey is around.

I wish Chris the best of luck and would like to thank him for all the hockey and sports highlights he has provided for the past years. In my mind, Chris is by far the best high school sports newscaster in the Northland.

Thanks Chris, goodluck in Eau Claire, keep in touch on minnhock.

First Chris, now Chris. Wow, what a loss for northern Minnesota. First we lose Chris Long, now we lose Chris Earl. Mr Earl, you will truly be missed in the Northland. Thank you for all you coverage and hard work. High school sports won't be the same without you.
www.dulutheasthockey.com
the home of Hound Hockey!

Edd

By the way, where is Chris Long? I haven't heard anything about where he is, not that I have time to look, but it would still be nice to know.

Much Love,
Cloquet

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... tHockey at: 5/23/05 7:38 am

This is a very sad lost to sports in the northland!<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /frown.gif ALT=":("> I always loved watching sports from both Chris's, it was great to see how excited they were when talking about sports. And actually know what they were talking about! Chris Earl is my favorite! And Chris Long was a close second! I really dont even watch the news anymore without channel 3, and now with losing Chris Earl it will be even harder to find a place to get info on sports that i trust.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ohwell.gif ALT=":\">

And on a positive note, Chris Earl is great, he made me laugh and smile way too much during the sports!<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D"> lol, i would run to the TV to watch the sports from him! lol That may sound pathetic, but oh well, its the truth!<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /laugh.gif ALT=":lol">

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... ltopper at: 5/23/05 8:06 am

Cloquet,

Chris Long was fortunate to receive an offer at WBBH/WZVN in Fort Myers, Florida. He's working as a sports photographer/reporter/anchor. Chris, if you're out there we miss ya!!

www.dulutheasthockey.com
the home of Hound Hockey!

Edd

well hello there, y'all!

Post by jclong » Sat Jun 11, 2005 6:12 pm

Being the middle of summer, it's been a while since I've checked in at the old minnhock message board. Apparently I need to come by more often!

Thanks so much to everyone for all the kind words! I've been hearing and seeing many of the compliments that have been in the newspapers and on message boards since I left Duluth... and it's all incredibly flattering.

I think I speak for Chris Earl as well when I say it was very sad how everything panned out in Duluth. It was tough for us both to leave, but it's just part of the line-of-work we've chosen to be in.

We both miss the community we came to know and love very much. We worked hard to cover the local scene, and even after-the-fact it's nice to hear everyone appreciated it. We did have a heck of a run! We had a blast covering high school hockey. We truly did.

As hard as it was to have to leave Duluth, we were both very lucky to receive terrific opportunities away from the Northland. Earl is now the main news anchor at WEAU-TV in Eau Claire, and I'm still in sports with the NBC/ABC co-owned station group here in Fort Myers, Florida.

You might catch my work from time-to-time at nbc-2.com. In fact, if you go to that site and search for "everblades"... you'll be able to see a lot of the work I did last month in covering our Florida Everblades as they skated in the ECHL Championship series.

Both Earl and I really enjoyed covering and interacting with the coaches, fans and players back in Minnesota. I can honestly say I never covered anything as passionately as I did high school hockey, and barring a return to Minnesota, I may never again.

I am, however, already planning a trip back this March where I'll attend the State Tourney for the first time as a fan. I'll also be attending as a 'foreigner' for the first time as well.

Thanks again for all the kind words, and I assure you that once the season rolls around... I'll be on minnhock, the chat rooms and such all the time. It'll be the only direct link I have back to the hockey scene in Minnesota. Even though I'mn now 2000+ (and about 45 degrees on the thermometer) away, I'll still do my best to keep tabs on my favorite sport in the world... high school hockey.

Maybe someday my career path will once again lead me to Minnesota. If I'm lucky enough, be certain I'll be right back on the high school hockey beat!

Take care everyone, and I'll talk/chat/argue with you all much more this winter when the season begins. After all, you'll be my primary link back to the HS hockey scene!!!

God bless.

-Chris Long
Sports Reporter and Anchor
WBBH/WZVN-TV - Ft. Myers, Florida

PS - Feel free to e-mail me at jclong@gmail.com anytime! I'd love to hear from anyone who cares to write!

Hey Chris,

Thanks for checking in with all of us high school hockey fans up north. It's nice to hear from you. I miss the Chris and Chris combo on KDLH. However, I'm glad to hear both of you are doing well at your new positions.

Thanks for all the memories covering all the sports, especially high school hockey. The quality of the coverage was unprecedented. Thanks!

Good luck in Fort Myers,
hawksrock
Grand Rapids, MN <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">
