Your first year you played A Bantams and now start varsity? Is your team that bad? Who do you play for? I don't know much about being a goalie but i know that a kid won't just start at that late of an age and be any good. But if you are looking for a few camps I believe that Houser has a camp at Elk River. Then if you check out hockey magazines there will be plenty of listings in there.

goalie...

I play for Ely, im sure youve heard the story. Ya starting late defintly makes things tough, but after my first year I was nominated to Selects 16 didn't make it and rightfully so, I was nominated there this year again along with gopher state this year. I have a very quick reflexes but also short and im just looking to know more of the fundamentals and angles cuz no one ever taught them to me

goalie camps

Post by hockeydad »

My son tried several camps. Doesn't do camps any more. He does 1-on-1 training at Stauber's Goal Crease. Sessions are about half an hour on ice, and video review every two sessions. 10 sessions go for about $1,000. He's had to get more hours at work to pay for it. Both he an dthe other varsity goalie on our team say it's the best trainging they've had. Best part of it is that you can do it year-round. Once his season is over, he'll take a few months off and start up again in summer, going 1-2 times a month until hockey season starts

netmind29-

I echo hockeydad's sentiments. Staubers Goalcrease is the way to go if you want to learn the fundamentals correctly. I have two goalies, one in HS and the other at Bantams. I can't say enough for the level of coaching there. Probably the best for your money. Ely's quite a way to go for this, but if you really want to be a goalie it's worth the drive. I would have your parents come down here with you and meet with Rob and or Paul Ostby and check out the facility. See www.goalcrease.com.
If you look at the list of who attends, there are some of the top goaltenders in Minnesota attending during the season.

Remember, just going to camps or clinics isn't like waving a magic wand and your good. Hard work in the off season is going to get you up to speed. If you can, find some open hockey during the summer, get in the nets and apply what you are being taught.

Utilize your practice time. If you find yourself standing around because the team is shooting at the other goalie or your at the boards waiting your turn in net, work on your movement drills or stickhandling.

Good luck!

Closed circuit to Hockeyfanatic23-
Just 'cause he started late doesn't mean he won't be any good. I have a junior that started playing goalie his first year of Bantams. Sure he struggle at first but he didn't let it get him down. Last season (02-03) he started Varsity for a metro AA team. Hard work and determination, along with some talent, goes a long way for success.
<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">

Goalie Camps

I have a son who has gone to International Hockey Camps in Detroit Lakes for the past six years. Tretiak (from USSR fame) has a camp their and is on the ice and does dryland with the kids. It fills every summer and this summer they added a new level, one on one training, little more expensive but I recommend the camp. www.incamps.com

Thats what i figured about the stauber thing, I didn't know it was down south and about the $$ I wont be able to fork that up after just getting new pads and 15 sticks. Sounds like a lot of camps from the southern half, does anyone know of any Brainerd up?? all there seems to be up here is a couple weeks of 4 on 4 leagues which i attend but scrimmaging can only teach you so much.

Thanks for the advice though everyone

Check the Let's Play Hockey website.
www.letsplayhockey.com/features.html
There are links to several camps. Some are combined with skaters. Heartland & MN Hockey Camps are near Brainerd. Hauser has something in GR. Also there is one in Duluth.
Many of these camps fill early so don't wait too long.

Do more research. Talk to other goalies in your area of Minnesota and see what they do or where they go for the summer. Do a little surfin' on the web......AFTER you get your homework done!!!

Do the 4 on 4's. Use that time to work on your movement drills and your angles. Any ice time is better than no ice time!! Have your friends help you out during the 4 on 4's. They can help you identify your weaknesses and strengths.
Check out GDI
www.hockeygoaltender.com/
The magazine has great drills and insight.

Don't get frustrated with goals. The minnesota Goalie academy is really good i think. I went to that one for a couple years and they really give you a workout but it helps on your fundamentals. They work on every save, some skating, dryland, all the fun stuff. Plus they got some really great people to work with, highly recommend that camp. i think it would put ya around 300-400 bucks. They hold it at blaine and moorhead i think.
