Fuel on the Fire
Interesting little tidbit from the Strib today.
Keep your barf-bags handy.

Upon further review

Fans who attended the boys' hockey state tournament wondered why no replays were shown on the Xcel Energy scoreboard. Girls
Why does it always have to be equal? They wanted hockey and got it, they got a state tourney but when will they see that they wont ever be the size of the boys tourney. Sorry girls but even here in Warroad where hockey is #1 girls hockey isn't even close to as big as the boys game. If you were to play a girls and boys game next to each other, the boys would be packed with everyone and only parents of the girls at the other. fact of life there. I almost think maybe another town should hold the girls tourney. You got to do something cause if what was said on here is true its truely sad of them girls to pull that

Thanks Blake parents
Thanks a lot you Blake girls hockey parents for bringing the lawsuit against the MSHSL. You took Michael Cirisi's tobacco money and misapplied it toward this lawsuit as you took this case pro-bono. You have no common sense and no hockey sense.

This is just another example of us living in a state, MN, where socialism is the rule. Everything has to be "equal" or "fair". Our lifestyle in MN is controlled by lawyers.

Now, no replay at the Boys State Tournament. Why, caus' the girls don't have it at Ridder...a rink they won't be able to fill for another 10 years. Boo hoo.

What a joke!

Im pissed
Fricken liberals....can't stand em. Everything has to be right and equal in their "world" and it just ain't so. They strive for perfect and equal opportunities, at the expense of other people at an advantage. People are gonna get pissed at this: It's the fault of girls and the girls association that no one goes to their games. Sure they have come a long way in the past 10 years, but they just can't expect to be around 10 years and get to play in the nicest arena's. It took the boys 50+ years to get where they are today. It would be a stupid decision on behalf of Xcel operations, because they would definately lose money on the 4 day event because they could have 2 Wild games and a couple of concerts, or just any other event that draws more than 900 people. Plus, it isn't free to pay for the maintenace crews, event crew's, changeover crew's, cleanup crew, security guards, and concessions personell. The Xcel doesn't do this out of charity, it's a business and they have to make money to operate.

Sad
This is very sad ...But, not so surprising. I am sure that the group that filed the lawsuit could, and would, use it as ammunition to keep firing salvos at the MSHSL until their little deprived hockey girls got what their parents wanted.

But, to do it this way means no hurt feelings on the part of girls hockey and counseling sessions to help them with their feelings of inadequacy due to the replay issue won't be needed.

MSHSL Caved
I fault the MSHSL as much as the Blake parents for eliminating instant replay at the State Tournament.

They really caved in. It is time now to reinstate instant replay.

Re: MSHSL Caved
Was it the Blake parents who eliminated instant replay at the girl's tournament or is it the fact that Ridder doesn't have a screen for playbacks? Only one side of Ridder was open for the girls tournament so that they wouldn't have to clean up both sides. And even then it was far from filled. It's a great arena for the girls tournament. What girl wouldn't want to play where the Gopher women play?

How about a thank you!
You would think that the girls would thank the boys tournament for supporting the majority of high school sports. Think about how much money is generated from this tournament? (120,000 tickets at $13.00 a piece) not counting concessions, parking etc. and that money goes to support all of the non revenue sports. You would think there would be a little appreciation for that, but no instead there are law suits and whining about "they get something we don't get" What a joke!

Re: How about a thank you!
One group of parents doesn't represent the majority of the girls hockey parents. Those that I've talked to think that Ridder is a great venue for their game.

Yes, WHAT A JOKE!!
Can you believe this? You mean to tell me that is the reason why Xcel did not have the replay on the big screen. I can't believe what this world is coming to. WOW (What a World) Minnesota Legal system working it's finest again. Cover you butt so to speak because of some Liberals were upset because the replay could not be shown at Ridder Arena. That's their problem. Why should the boys and all their fans and spectators have their sporting event shortchanged/impacted just because another arena has issues with replays. This is crazy and crazy. Equal rights. Face it the world is not fair and this just creates more issues that we have with the liberals. Even at the expense of the great Xcel center and the best sporting event in the United States. Yes, that event is the MN STATE BOYS HOCKEY TOURNAMENT not the girls tournment. Enough is Enough. It is really too bad that a few Liberals (probably other words would fit here better) ruin a GOOD thing. Nice Job. O'h by the way, Girls hockey will never compare to boys hockey. You can bet that Riddler Arena will have less fans next year. Keep up the good work.

A few girls parents are turning fans off
It's too bad that the few girls parents that file these lawsuits can't see that they are hurting girls hockey more than helping. Why does a small minority get to represent the majority. Could the majority go file a lawsuit against them, because they're turning people off of girls hockey.

Re: A few girls parents are turning fans off
what i joke...this is sad...i dont have much to say everyone has already said waht i would say anyways...the the MSHSL doesnt have to put up with this the boys can still have the replay on the screen even if the girls do...because all that the title 9 rule or whatever stats that girls just need an equal right to play...and they get the chance to play they dont have to have the same stuff according to title 9..

and maybe then...
The refs would have seen the boarding call was not a major and the spuds could have gone on the offense for 3 more minutes. Maybe in those 3 minutes stutz lets a rebound get away from him and the spuds go up 1-0. Ok its a stretch and I do think the best team won, but seeing the spuds win would have been just a little bit better for me. Maybe then today wouldnt have been so sad. No hockey for 8 months or so and no championship to remember.

ridiculous
this is ridiculous, i am a player on on one of the tournament teams and one of the tournament officials came into our locker room and told us that we could not have the tv's on that were in the locker room becasue the girls didn't have tv's in their locker rooms!!! RIDICULOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ns/mad.gif ALT=">:">

Replays
"One group of parents doesn't represent the majority of the girls hockey parents."

You are right on, but unfortunately, all it takes is that one group of idiot parents to change the status quo. This whole situation is so asanine that it makes me want to throw up, punch the wall, and then throw up some more.

J. Robinson (the U wrestling coach) is very outspoken on this topic, and he's my hero for it.

Title nine
Just as one rotten apple spoils the bunch, a few ND hunters spoiled their state and a few whiny girls are trying to spoil hockey...........
Let girls have equal opportunities as boys, great I am all for it. But for God's sake, don't take anything away from the boys.....or more importantly, the fans.........Give them the opportunity to draw enough people to a tournement to overfill Ridder then they can play in a bigger arena, but to take something away from the fans that want to watch a boy's hockey game????? Good job girls, good job!!!! you are abusing your stupid right by pushing your weight around, bottom line is: If no one is a fan of your game, you won't play in as big of an arena, the stands and replay screens have zero to do with you.... my peeved off nickel''s worth........

fuel on the fire
I think that if the girls would have replays it'd take forever to see them...There wouldn't be any thats why....They try to ruin something good because they will never have something as good as boys hockey is and will be.

I'm sorry, but them trying to make boys hockey as equal as girls hockey is a joke. It'll never happen...Girls can't even sell out ridder arena for pete's sake...Maybe they should have it at a smaller arena..Maybe they'll feel special and have it sold out, or second thought maybe not.

Maybe if they want to make it equal they can have cheerleaders for girl's hockey...It'd be as pointless as having girls hockey...What's hockey if you can't check..!?!

wow
i agree when i read this i was furious. thankfully i was in a suite so whenever i wanted to see a replay i just looked back, but that is beside the point. it is a absolute joke. i have one question: how embarrassed do you think the girls would have been to see about 500 people at their games and the sections upon sections of empty seats. them not playing at excel is saving them the embarassment of the reality that no one wants to see them play.

Girls Hockey
Was it the Blake girls or Cloquet girls (Coach Bartholdi I thought) that precipitated the filing of the lawsuit? I had read and heard that 6 or 7 Cloquet girls and the Coach put their name on the lawsuit. I believe one or 2 of them then tried to withdraw their name from the suit. I also thought the timing of the suit was rather curious. Couldn't they have waited until immediately after the tournament was over?
Although I totally disagree with the suit I do get upset with the bogus argument that girl's hockey will never be as good as boys. Who the heck ever said it would be? If you watch the girls play and constantly compare it to the boys you, in essence, are criticizing the heart of every girl playing that game AND you are being totally sexist. Let's stop accusing every high school girl hockey player of filing that lawsuit and try to enjoy watching kids compete in high school sports regardless of sex. You cannot measure the heart of the competitor by the number of fans sitting in the arena!
