Centennial next year

Post by nolookpassguy »

Just wonderfing if Flynn is gonna accept the offer to play in Michigan next year & if RJ Anderson has decided if he is gonna return or play Juniors. I realize that Cent has a deep program, but I gotta believe thatthe departure of one/both these guys will make Centennial just another good team. Centennial will now start to feel the pain of other successful programs when their top tier players opt to leave early. It's difficult to reach the top but may be even harder to stay there.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub33.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUser ... passguy at: 4/1/04 12:41 pm

they will be fine!

Post by jr »

The only reason Centennial wasn't a major threat earlier was because they were losing kids. Do you remember Totino in 95? Most of their top players were Centennial kids! Holy Angels made their first appearance thanks to their leading scorer another Centennial kid. One of the top defensemen on that team as well was a former Centennial kid.

RJ is one of the captains next year and will return. I'm not sure about Flynn. I hope he stays but would'nt blame him for going on. They won this year without him. Furthermore, these sophomores took the VFW state title without him and they also finished second in the MAHA tourney. They will be fine next year!

Thanks for the info jr. Wasn't aware that they had much of a history with kids leaving prior to this year. As a Hill fan, I'm disappointed that Anderson is staying. I'm not sure if he has committed to the Gophers yet, but if not, Ast Coach Guentzel would be wise to insist that Anderson not return to Centennial for his senior year and go & play juniors. Not for the reason that it would benefit RJ and/or the Gophers, but rather, it would give his son (HM captain next year) a better opportunity to make the Tournament next year. I'm sure no such conversation came up but the irony would seem funny.

RJ will be a Gopher down the road. The sophomore class is the deepest they have ever had. The youth program is also solid all the way down.

don't forget-

Post by Chieftan »

JR is right about the past of the program and the future. A couple of players people tend to forget are Montgomery and Vermeullen. In my opinion these two along with Flynn made up an excellent 2nd line this year that could skate with most 1st lines.

I hope RJ stays as well. He's very intelligent! He and his family will make the right decision for him. People will argue this but I feel he has a good shot at Mr. Hockey next year.

Along with RJ, Travis, Montgomery and Flynn (hopefully) the sophomores and a couple of this years bantams will give next years team plenty of depth to continue the programs success.

Goaltending?

Congratulation to the team and the coaching staff on an excellent year!

when the players left in the past, wasnt the only reason the coaches (aus in particular)? Y is he getting all the praises now for how good of a coach he is. The team won this year on pure talent. A man who never coached before could have led them to a state tourny.

Next year, they should be very good. I am guessing that RJ will stay and they have a coule kids coming up from bantams that will make a splash. The only question next year is the goaltending.

So Wrong!

Post by jr »

IMetJesus: You are SO WRONG! I know why many of the kids left and it had nothing to do with the coaches. Most went to Grace because they weren't allowed to play high school when they were still bantams. One left for Hill and that decision was made when he was born while another went to Holy Angels after playing for Trebil oversees in a national tourney. funny how that works. What is even better is that Aus is 2-0 vs. Trebil even though Trebil had the home ice change advantage in both games.

The coaching staff has had two state tourney caliber teams. Last year they completely outplayed WBL only to run into a hot goalie. This year this group dominated like they never did at the youth level. They bought into a system and shut out 3 top 5 teams in a row. Many hockey scouts and college coaches would tell you they were VERY well coached!

Coaches will always have their critics who usually don't know the first thing about coaching or the game in general. Well done Staff!

Plenty teams have talent and don't get over the top. This team was 8-0 vs. top 5 teams this year and coaching played a part in that. That solid team defense was just learned on their own I'm sure. WOW!You have ripped the coaches all year on here and continue to do so after they proved you wrong. How funny that is!<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/roll.gif ALT=":rollin">

Aus has been at Centennial for 17 years and has always been active in the youth program. Many people can take credit for the success including Mr. Aus. To think otherwise just shows that you have an axe to grind. This program has been coming along for sometime and the coaching staff along with many volunteers at the youth level can be thanked.

Hide behind your call name but the facts speak for themselves. Aus has helped to build a very successful program!<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/roll.gif ALT=":rollin">

Sports a bad name

Post by centerman »

IMet,

It's people like you that give sports a bad name.

I'm a firm believer that players win and lose games. However, the Centennial coaching staff should be congratulated on keeping their team focused and disciplined all year. They had a target on their backs all year and continued to rise to the occasion. To me one of the most impressive things was how they continued to improve while playing the whole month of January without being challenged. Once again coaching played a significant part in that.

This team won the state tourney with Mr. Hockey at 70% and they played most of the tournament without Ryan Flynn who was just offered a spot on the National Developmental team. Now the kids should be the first to get the honor since they did it on the ice. If you have watched hockey it's obvious to see this team was well coached. To say otherwise means you have a vendetta against the coach or your a frustrated athlete trying to put somebody else down.

As a society we need to realize it's just a game and these coaches give of their time for the kids.

IMet quote: "A man who has never coached could have taken this team to the tourney." I think you would be hard pressed to find a staff in the state who could have done more with this group. 30-1 while only giving up 33 goals in those games would be tough to top. However, I'm positive the majority of coaching staffs could have easily had more losses and less success.

Every arena and program has a select few that are never satisfied and always looking to bring somebody down. It's bad for the game and sports in general. The articles and stories in newspapers and on tv about out of control fans and parents are usually about people just like this. Never Satisfied!!<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">

Coaches

Post by Chieftan »

I agree with jr and centerman in that the coaches did a great job.

Personally, I played for coaches Aus and Tolk and at the time due to my immaturity didn't care for what they were teaching me. I now find myself using some of the tools they taught me with the bantams I coach. That's the best compliment I can give them.

You can lead a horse to the water but you can't make it drink.

Erik and his staff led this team to the water and they drank the whole damn lake. The kids worked their butts off and deserve most of the credit but the coaches played their role perfectly.
