and......Blackhawk, assuming that for some reason they gave Holy Angels a goal on that play, that still makes the game 1-1, not a victory for your beloved Stars. Not a loss, but they still wouldn't have won that game based on that play alone.

It took a slo-motion replay to show that, maybe, just maybe, it might have been a goal, it never showed the puck past the goal line.

I don't buy this crap about that shot. Centennial had the best and meanest defensemen in the state. It was fun to watch them play. The Holy Angels didn't get a sniff of the net the whole game. Centennial proved the whole year they were the best team in the state. It was fun to see a tough team win state. Instead of these schools that pretty much pick up "free agents" from wherever they want.

OMG! I can't believe that you are still crying about AHA's no goal against Centennial... it's not even sad anymore... and it's way past pathetic. Get over it.
I'm a northern girl myself, having said that, Centennial played some of the best prep hockey I've ever seen. They were amazing, not just with their hockey skills... but with their ability to play together too. It was like they can read each others' minds. They not only deserved the Championship... they earned it.

close call!

Post by coach »

sorry Centerman and company,

It was a very close call. If it was in fact a goal, who knows? How can you possibly say! I certainly don't blame the officials, it happens too fast to call a play that close.

The bigger question is could Centennial have shut out Breck? No way! Breck was the best offensive team in the state! Centennial was the best all around (especially if they don't call penalties)

Centennial will fall off the face of the earth after this year! They won the national bantam title! roseville did in the 70's and the team split between Kellogg and Ramsey. Ramsey went to state. Kellogg was good. I believe Jefferson did, and they crushed at the high school level! So are you really surprised that this team was able to do this? I am. I don't think Centennial has what it takes after this year to do it again! Had they beat Warroad and Breck I would truly feel they were the best!

Warroad and Breck??? They CHOSE to play class A!

Centennial was hands down the best team in the state. They played Moorhead, Wayzata, and Holy Angels a total of 6 times giving up a grand total of 6 goals. Those teams all had as much if not more firepower than Breck. Furthermore, didn't Moorhead beat Warroad in Warroad?????

Centennial went 30-1 and was 8-0 vs. the top 5!

The future is very bright for Centennial. The sophomore class is the deepest they have ever had and the youth program is as good as any in the state. Coach you have NO IDEA what you're talking about!

Play Class A teams?

Post by centerman »

Coach please explain to me how Centennial is supposed to play Breck or Warroad in the State tourney. Aren't they in Class A by choice??

Didn't Warroad lose to Orono?

Centennial was clearly the best team in the state!!<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">

the question here isn't whether or not centennial would have shut out breck, coach, it was did centennial deserve to win? which they did, plain and simple. no, they probably owuldn't have shut out breck, but they didn't have to. they shut out moorhead, holy angels, and wayzata, 3 very formiddable opponents. of course theyd eserved to win the title, whoever doesn't think so isn't a true minnesota hockey fan.

form whatever question you like!

Post by coach »

I really don't care what question you are asking. The point I'm making is valid. No kidding they deserved to be double A champs. They are! Yet my point is still, they might not be the best in the state.

puck4ever, I'm much more than just a Minnesota hockey fan........Centennial is the deepest talent wise, Breck scores goals better than anyone, and both Warroad and Moorhead are my rink rat specials and both are well coached. These are the best 4 teams in the state! (holy angels, eden prairie, white bear, jefferson, hill murray, edina, not far behind)

Jim Wherelys (Intl. Falls) record of shutout minutes was broke by Stutz. If it had been broke by Brecks goalie everyone would discount the achievement, its only single A. Yet even in a watered down double a, some of you so called experts or true minnesota hockey historians think that this is the pinnacle and that Centennial couldn't possibly be beat or scored on!? Whithout ever having faced Breck or Warroad I can't give Centennial the number 1 overall nod! Centennial is awesome, so is Breck.

Holy Angels and Moorhead are both awesome and both games were both basically 1-0. Too close for comfort, yet Centennial deserves the credit for winning. But please!....not the monumental, doninating, absolute, unmatched, undisputed, champion of the state title! I don't see it that way.

Breck would have made for even a better game. 4-3 one way or the other! (Centennial would be the favorite) for now, Centennial is AA CHAMPIONS and deserved and Breck is A CHAMPIONS and deserved. Lets end it at that!

Settle down coach. Breck won the small school tourny. Which is a nice achievement, but not even comparable to winning AA.

Also, when you come on these boards running your mouth about how Centennial should have beaten two A schools, keep in mind that most people in this state follow the AA and for the most part only AA hockey. People like myself could care less about what happens in the small school tourny.

So do us a favor and only post on single A threads from now on. This thread was about AA, and we'd hope to keep it that way.

You're TOO FUNNY coach!

Did Breck have a nice team? YES

Did they CHOOSE to play class A? YES

Did they prove themselves against top flight AA teams? NO!!!

Breck played one fairly solid AA team in Eastview which ended in a 2-2 Tie! Wow Impressive!

Warroad who shouldn't even be in this conversation since they won the conso title in A was 0-2 vs. solid AA competition including losing at home.

Let's look at Centennial. They won 11 games against teams better then Eastview! The proof is in the pudding!

White Bear 5-0

Wayzata 4-2

Hill Murray 6-2

Elk River 6-4

Holy Angels 4-3

Duluth East 8-2

Moorhead 3-1

Hill Murray 3-2

Holy Angels 2-0

Wayzata 3-0

Moorhead 1-0

What do they need to do coach, beat the Gophers to make you happy or the Dogs?

The bottom line is that Centennial was 11-0 in this group of games winning by an average of 4-1. Breck nor Warroad had near this tough of a schedule and when Breck went up against mighty Eastview it ended in a 2-2 tie. They CHOSE to play Class A so they must live with that title.

Nice season Breck and congratulations on your 2004 Class A title.

Videoscout is an avid Moorhead and Warroad backer and he made this statement before the tourney. "If Centennial beats all those top teams and wins the title they will go down as one of the best champs of all time!" Those aren't my words but those of a Northern backer.

Nice job Centennial on winning the the State Title! Home grown boys!!!

Breck EXPLOSIVE offense would be a dud if it had to play against either Moorhead or Cenntenial's Defense. You can't compare any of the A's D to AA's top two teams.

Taylor Goal

Post by StarsFan »

Funny this is still going. Taylor did score. He saw it.
No one else did. The Left blocker is at a 45 degree angle
and the front of Stutzs' left skate caught the puck
about 6 inches behind the line, very low. It all happened
very fast, but with a DVR is very clear.

Centennial did mow over a lot of other teams in other games.... Shoulda, Coulda, Woulda. Time to fish.

Wow Again! I never stated Stutz was "So Good" as you put it. However, giving up 4 goals only twice all year with the type of schedule they played is impressive. It's a team game and Centennial was the Best Team hands down!

4 goals

Post by puck4ever »

did stutz give up 4 goals when it mattered? i didn't think so. hey blackhawk, how did elk river do when it counted in the state tourny? thats what i tought. to let up 0 goals in the minnesota state high school hockey tournament is a great accomplishment. it shows wonderful goaltending as well as great defensive work. letting up 4 goals twice all year is amazing, that shows how good a goalie he was, so u just proved the point that he was a good goalie. you should just stop talking blackhawk before you loose all of your credibility on here. get with it.

Re: To JR

Post by bisketboy »

I hope SR has more sense than Jr . To say Cenn. was hands down better than anyone in the state is arrogant to say the least. They were a good team but any of the top four teams in the tourney could have won state any given day. Great tourney and Cenn. did deserve to win that weekend because they put it all together.
