First Game Over

Post by slporiolesfan »

Minnesota beat Indiana 9-0 Wed night, scoring 5 in the 3rd. I believe that Deutz and Gifford each had 4 or 5 points.

Sounds like Minnesota pretty much dominated. Great job from the boys of Moorhead, hopefully the scouts were watching.

Team Minnesota won't get tested until the finals, if then. You have to keep in mind, other than a few states the top players are all playing AAA Major Midget and there not in this tournament. Minnesota might want to re-think attending this tourney and participating in a Midget major tournament, the problem would be the timing. All Major Midget seasons are well over by now. (Most of the scouts will be up the road 20 miles watching the EHK Chicago Pre-Draft Showcase)going on at the same time?

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub33.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUser ... eagle73 at: 4/15/04 7:55 am

Good Point, but....

Post by MNPuckster27 »

Keep in mind that the true top Minnesota players have already signed for next year or are finishing seasons with their junior team. But if there is a way they could get the TOP 20 to play in a major midget tourney that would be cool, I think they would do pretty good. As for the showcase, I don't know who could possibly knock of the MN boys.

Scouts

In my experience, there are always a lot of scouts at the Chicago Showcase.

I would guess that every US Junior A team is usually represented.

The scouts are usually there Wednesday through Friday, with a few hanging around for Saturday.

Some of them may attend parts of both of these Showcases now that the Midget one is on the same weekend 20 miles away.

It should also be noted here that many of the teams in the high school showcase are comprised almost exclusively of players who also played Midget AAA or Jr B as well as for their high school (if their high school had a team) this year.

midget

Post by Mitch Hawker »

The Elite League teams generally dominated the midget teams they played, except for Shattuck (who dominated Midget AAA again this year). And even Shattuck could not beat the lesser of the two Elite League All Star teams this year.

Shattuck lost 5 games and tied 3 to non-Jr A teams this year. Two of the losses and all 3 of the ties came in Elite League events to Elite League players, Shattuck lost only 3 games and tied none in the Five months of games other than their five weekends of Elite League action.

My point is that this Team Minnesota would dominate the midget teams in any tournament they entered. They have a better chance of losing to Wisconsin, Michigan, or California in the Chicago Showcase than they would losing to anyone other than Shattuck in a Midget AAA tournament. The Mass team that beat Shattuck for the national championship does not play in any Midget AAA tournaments outside of the Labor Day Tournament in Massachusetts.

The Greater Boston Junior Bruins who beat Shattuck for the midget championship was playoff champion of a fall midget league similar to the elite league. They only played an 11 game schedule then went to play with their high school teams. I don't see any reason that the Elite League champions couldn't do something similar. Here's a link to the Massachusetts league

www. ...

Yes, the Elite League champion could play Shattuck (or hold a tournament including all Minnkota Elite League teams and Shattuck) for the right to represent Minnkota at U17 Nationals.

I am not sure what the point would be, as the league would then have to exclude players who turn 18 before the season from teams that wish to have a chance to move on, the kids in the Elite League are already scouted , and the trip to nationals would probably cost more than the rest of the Elite League season combined.

I will just comment on what a couple Junior A scouts said at the EHK Showcase in Regards to the High school Showcase. They commented that it is much more efficient for their time management to scout the EHK because of the fact their are around 300 AAA players under one roof (two rinks) vs. a handful of players on 3 or four teams (MN, MICH, WISC and CA that they might be interested in and probably have already scouted them throughout the winter season. I also got the distinct feeling from listening to them that overall, high school hockey does not rate very high in terms of producing the talent level needed to qualify kids to play at a higher level. When I asked why, the answer was the typical high school team maybe has two to three kids that have the potential to play on and it is nearly impossible to coach them the way needed, while trying to coach the other 15 at a different level. I asked them if they were familiar with the Elite league in Minnesota and they commented they felt it is a hybrid AAA format which will probably evolve to a full blown AAA team or teams.

Looks like the MN boys were penalized a lot more than California (10-4). I'm sure it was tough on MN getting going when then were always on the penalty kill. Shots for the game were even (30-2<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... lasses.gif ALT="8)"> .

Overall it looked like a good weekend for the MN Boys. 2nd Place in the tourney. Lots of offense (avg nearly 6 goals/game) plus good "D" (only gave up avg 2/game).

Hopefully they all had a good time and got some good looks from the scouts. The Moorhead boys (Duetz & Gifford) really tore it up this weekend. Congrats to them and all the MN seniors! They should all be playing hockey somewhere next year.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://b9.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserPub ... toomany at: 4/18/04 7:23 pm

Midgets

Post by juniorhockey »

Minnesota lost basically to a midget team today. Team California had ten players that played on a very good Midget team, the LA Kings. Two years in a row team Minnesota has lost in the finals. Anybody have any ideas why this is happening? I know we don't allow committed players to go which is good, but do you think others are catching up?

I wouldnt say others are catching up. Yes, California has really picked it up over the past 5 or so years. But not only did the seniors that have commitments didnt play, but also you have to consider the number of seniors that skipped their last year of school to play juniors. Year in and year out, MN by far produces the greatest amount of college players.

Maybe so...

Post by juniorhockey »

I agree and see your point, but Minnesota has lost MORE players in years previous AND still not allowed committed players to partake and won it. Year in and year out. I think Wisconsin has taken HUGE strides in their hockey community and so have others to begin to bridge the gap.

has anyone noticed that there is never a number 13 on the great 8 / selects rosters... does minnesota hockey have a little bit of a superstition...................... a man that is about 50 years old just drove by my house on a motorized mountain bike..... that has nothing to do with my post but it was really random and i thought i'd share...........................

Ryan Gunderson replaced d fulton

Post by tipper »

Ryan Gunderson replaced fulton even though it was not noted in the roster. MN had tying goal against CA called back late in the 3rd as well as serving many penalties - back to back 3 v 5s during which CA couldn't score - outstanding goaltending. 3 MN players were playing with shoulder separations and knee injuries.

Chicago Showcase/MN Elite League

Post by Pucknutz69 »

Shattuck is putting on a new addition in the next year and adding a large dryland training area. This will bring in a whole different look to the hockey scene here. Instead of traveling outstate and out of the country teams will come to Shattuck to play. If you want to play in other tournaments, Start your own team. That is all that these club teams from out east do. Everyone here is just whipped by Mn Hockey and MSHSL. Grow some hair and lumps and step up. Now that Norwich is controlling the MN Rockets you might see a different landscape also.

The shots on MN goalies do not reflect the game at all. Most of the teams didn't get many shots - MN players doing an awesome job - but the shots that did get through were great shots and even better saves. Both goalies played very well.
