Who will do the Summer Work?

Post by JLS 81 »

hamboni,
Defense I would say Jared Smith, Joe Stejskal, Brett Hedlund, Tony Cafton but not necessarily in that tandem and order.

Goalie: That is the money position for any team. We are a big ? mark for 2004-2005.

Forwards: Stunyo should be the best player on this team come next season. He can fly and if you look at his points this season he came on real strong by years end. Right now he would be my pick for impact player in 2004-2005.

If Tavis played like he did against East in the finals than expect good things otherwise expect the same below average play. Hit the weights kid and hit 'em hard. Losts of squats, lunges, with some dead lifts as well this summer.

Open Positions: 5 open positions 1 will obviously be taken by a goalie so we are down to 4 position players. Tough to make if you were a JV guy in 2003-2004. Work hard as this scenario is real good for Rapids hockey.

Possible 1st liners:
Columbus
Stunyo
With a center who can see the ice and feed these guys. A kid who can put up two times as many assists as goals (three would be better!). Is there a recruit out there equal to this task?
<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">

my mistake

Post by hamboni »

my mistake, jls. there are actually 6 spots open next year, including the goaltending spot. so 5 skaters and a goalie have to be replaced.

Shall be an interesting year next year. I agree with the 4 defensmen that hamboni named. Lumbo and Stunyo are first line locks, and I'd still go with Tavis as the first line center. However, I'd give White a few shots at the postion to see how he does.

First line center

Post by Mucker »

I agree with Hamboni, Patrick White should be centering Lumbo and Stunyo. The kid is a real playmaker, very unselfish. Playing varsity as a freshman this year will help him next year. Tavis either doesn't see the ice very well, or is just unwilling to pass the puck. Jerod Smith is going to be a great defenseman.

Here is how i am sure the lines will go knowing our coaching staff...
Line 1-
Columbus, Tavis, Stunyo
Line 2-
S. Davis, White, Fransisco
Line 3-
Davis, Welliver, Glorvigen
Line 4-
Anthony, Maher, Makinen
D-Pair 1-
Smith, Hedlund
D-Pair 2-
Stejskal, Clafton
D-Pair 3-
Morse, Cone
Goalies
Hiipakka, How or Marchese

Any one have other opinions on what good old Bruce and Steve will do?

grman45,
No reason that a JV team which went 18-4 should ride that success and hard work into Varsity, but with "the coaches" lineup .500 in Varsity is more than likely. Time for the 5 year wonder to up and pack his bags but he won't. Remember a certain Bantam B1 coach from three years ago? He should be the guy!
That lineup is frustrating, especially at forward.

gr next year

Post by hamboni »

does the g in grman stand for goofy. i don't think jls agrees with your "coaches" picks and neither do i. i watched a lot of your bantam games this past year and your team was mediocre at best. there will be far to many good juniors next year to enable any guys off that feeble 04 bantam team to crack that lineup. the only forward that has a snowballs chance is makinen, but i think with guys like maher, justin gambill, shinarbargar, roy, and glorvigen on the shelf those bantam forwards had better worry about not ending up on the junior gold because the staff might just keep a bunch of juniors around on the jv because some of those guys are too good to let go. grman, i think you've been sniffing too much glue or something. morse and cone as the third pairing on varsity. pipe dream!! for the bulk of the season they'll only dress 5 defense and they'll only skate 4. sam shaw will be that 5th defenseman. so what does that mean. it means that defensive positions are sewn up for two years. they'll only lose hedlund to graduation after next year and shaw will step into that spot. bottom line is that you won't see any defenseman off of last years bantam team for three years. now, on to the bleakest of situations; goaltending. i hope andy hiipaka stays healthy because he will be playing in every game for the next two years. the only exception will be on senior night when peter hagen and danny marchese will split the first minute of play and then be replaced. three years down the road, riedar jensen will be your thawk goalie. sorry grman, but last years bantam team will be a page tore out of the gr hockey history book.

grman just following history

Post by JLS 81 »

hamboni, i think you might be coming down a little hard on grman with the reference. It looks like he is just calculating the current head coaches model as he tends to bring a few sophmores to gain experience at the varsity level. With Bruce at the helm it may very well be that 3 to 4 of his picks (out of a total of 6 openings) could in fact be sophmores.
My vote would be to get as many of the juniors as possible and than not push the rest of the juniors to either quit or play junior gold but model after Duluth and keep those kids on JV with a last chance to make the varsity their senior year. I do hope Steve and Bruce do go this route as there are some solid hard working role players in that big junior class.

hey man...im wondering what u see in jensen...ive seen how...he can be very good with just a little defense...and jensen had a mediocre year on the bantam a team. How had better numbers on and A team. He played for a worse team...How's team did nothing...and most of the season he had family issues...which i know for a fact it is hard to focus when u have issues...lately he has seemed much better and is playing solid baseball ( just shows he's focused) and as for my lines...Laroque teaches sophomore classes and that is why he likes to bring sophomores onto his team.

tim how, i mean grman45, how can you brag yourself up so badly? this is not just from me, this is from your whole team last year AND Reidar Jensen. We all saw what you just wrote about yourself in your comment and we didnt like the fact that 1. you talked so highly about yourself 2. you think riedar is alot worse than he actually is 3. you said our team did nothing (that is what really set most of us off)

We are very fed up with your cockiness tim how, and we are glad that we could let you know about how we feel. We would like to see how you can back up what you can says about yourself

Love, last years team +reidar and proks

And reidar says: I will dissapoint you next year

focus...we were not too superb...we didnt make it to regions...reidar was fine...he wasnt great he was fine. and u guys think im cocky...fine...a lot of you are too. are team wasnt too good. and that helped ot my poor season...if u recall, my first year of bantams, a bantam A year I was 15-8-1 with a 2.04 GGA and a .923 save percentage...i started most the year until i tore a muscle in my arm. then i didnt play much. and as for u ben cahill, or benc14. i thought u would have a huge year, be the next mark columbus. u were a great dissappointment. u scored rarely and were layed out often. and u r much better than that. scotty mathews...my best friend (maybe only) was incredible. most of u didnt think he should be on the team. and i constantly supported him. he is a great kid and works very hard. and as for your whole essay u wrote me..it was people like u who make me discuoraged...all u guys ever do is tell me i suck and tell me im no good....u yell at me every time...u cuss me out...and if i do it one time u all got pissed at me. it was a terrible season, terrible coaching, terrible play, and terrible attitudes all around. i want u all to know that i can and will back it up next year...and i really hate u all and the reason is all of u have always hated me...with the exception of scott mathews...and as for...ben cahill, jason makinen, brett cone, zach morse, robb roy, sam rendle, sam sparren, grant prokop, reidar jensen, matt jerule, eric bishop, and ne one else who was on my team minus scott...if u have a problem u talk to me...if u hate me...u tell me...and as for everyone i mentioned...i want u all to approach me and tell me exactly how u feel...and i will tell u how i feel about u...that may mean losing 12-15 friends...but what friends are they when they don't support me...and to reidar...nothing against u bud, i wish u the best of luck, if it isnt me on varsity i definantly hope it is you, not marchese or hagen...may the best goalie win the job....

I think you mean "grow up" Mr. hamboni. This site is not for young kids to dig holes they will have a hard time getting out of. Unfortunately, they do and sometimes say things they will regret. I know both of you, (grman and benc) very well. You better hope your future coaches don't frequent this board. If I was one of them, I would have a hard time believing you are committed to TEAM. If you can't say something positive to each other or about Grand Rapids teammates, don't say it on this board. You make yourselves look very bad. Say it to each other in person if you have a problem, it takes a lot more hair.

u have a great point...who are u? u seem to be fairly close to this...u are 100% correct. team is what it is about. i would hoestly give ne thing to make that team and go to a state tourney. i went my first year of bantam a's and i would love to do it again. and hopefully play more this time...i apoologize to benc, and infact all of rapids...we have a great program and WE WILL get to state next year, YOU WATCH OUT EAST...and by the way...their baseball team forfieted twice against us today (1 varsity and 1 jv) so they are afraid...

as a longtime fan of Grand Rapids hockey I find what I read on this thread to be very disturbing. Gentlemen, it's time to grow up. Personal differences have to be put aside. The phrase "you suck" should never EVER be said to a teammate under any circumstances. You guys can all be Aaron Miskovich's and Matti Korhonen's, but if you have a bad attitude you guys won't even get out of the semifinals next year. The team that wants to get to state the most will be there. You guys have to work more on your strength and conditioning. The team ran out of gas in the end of the East game. Also, something Rapids has lacked for the last 7 years is the ability to catch a pass. That is something that needs to be worked on in the offseason. Remember to practice improving weaknesses, not your strengths. Cris Carter never touched a football in the offseason because he didn't need to. He worked on his speed and route running, and the small things, which actually should be called big things. Some of you guys need to be tougher along the boards and sacrifice your body more on the forecheck and backcheck, work for those loose pucks. Small things would be keeping your stick blade on the ice, picking up forwards moving into the slot and letting the other skaters on your team take care of their own checks. I would also advise you for conditioning to get into tae-bo. If you want to be in the best shape of your life do it.
