I voted for him.

He tapered off in the final two games... but his effort in the first game was well deserving of a vote.

on the 8th grader

Post by olde tyme hockey 9 »

Jordan Schroeder was extremely nauseas and sick during the game today. he played about the first half of the game and wasnt himself at all on the ice today and sat the second half of the game. he threw up the whole night before the 3rd place game today so thats why he didnt put on a show like the virginia game. the kids gonna be a stud... even though he already is

Why is Niskanen on the All Tourney Team??? He didn't do anything special during the tournament and his team gave up 16 goals and was 2 and out.

I think Marvin and Krahn as well could have and should have made the list, I know they dont want to load up with too many players from one team so lets pull Olimb off and pick one of the other two instead <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">

Given that this isn't supposed to be a team award, what does Virginia going 2 and out and allowing 16 goals have to do with Matt Niskanen making the all tournament team? Did you even see him play? I'll bet you were not at the consolation semifinal game.

Niskanen was one of very few bright spots for Virginia through the tournament. He really stood out on a team that didn't do much offensively, scoring 2 goals and notching an assist. He also broke up quite a few plays, blocked a few shots, and knocked a handful of players off the puck and introduced them to the ice surface.

Although he wasn't at his very best (he was still good, I might add), Niskanen cannot be faulted for the poor defensive showing of the team as a whole, he is still only one person, and its pretty much impossible for him to cover 5 guys all by himself.

Anyway, who would you nominate to take his place (keeping in mind, it has to be a defenseman)?

yes i was at the consalation semifinal game and all i am saying is that hes a defensemen and his team gave up 16 goals in 2 games. also what someone said in another thread they dont like to put guys on the all tournament team that only play 2 games unless they really deserve it and i saw nothin special out of him.

Niskanen

Post by PuckRanger »

Well Siv101, if you saw him play both games, and still disagree with it, then so be it. You are entitled to your opinion. Obviously many others see it as I did, since he did only play two games and still got voted onto the team. I am curious though, who would you replace him with?

va came out flat footed and goalies played like absolute crap. niskanen was the only one to really do anything for them. thats why. if you saw the weak goals the goalies gave up, you would see. also about the 8th grader. i give him props, very well indeed. when the other teams put a man on him, they stopped him, virginia didnt have anyone fast enough for him. but 1st time va has been to state, that was their goal. everything else just a bonus

if you knew anything about hockey siv101 you would know that Niskanen deserved to be on the team he is as good as a defenseman as anyone in the state tournament a and aa he cant help his team was pretty week and from the game i saw the goaltending was horrible there is nothing any player could do about that

I voted for Niskanen. Some on the panel criticized my vote, but I stand by my decision because I think he was the best defenseman in the tournament.

Problem being, he didn't show it in the tournament.

If that means I should have voted for someone else, then I stand at fault. But what's done is done, so I have to own it.

Marvin should have been on the all tourney team whats up with this. He scores the game winning goal in one of the best championship games ever.
The Iceman

I think Quinn Ellingson should have been on there for Albert Lea either ahead of Breuer or somebody else. He had 5 goals and 2 assists including a 4 goal game in the consolation championship. But I suppose they put Breuer on there ahead of him because of the Herb Brooks thing.

well...I think that the Media kind of looks at what players have done all throughout the year and not just look at how they played in the tourney. If they looked at the tourney and not other things, a lot of the bigger named players wouldnt have been on the team, and people like Krahn would have.

Remember in '95 or '96 when the Red Wing goalie was included in the all-tourney team even though Warroad won the final 10-3. That was funnier than hell.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/roll.gif ALT=":rollin">

Btw, that was the meanest championship team I'd ever seen.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ns/mad.gif ALT=">:">

Response to Totino7 and 8th grader

Post by oceans13 »

Totino7,

I hope you aren't on the TG team. If you are, I'm embarrassed for you and disappointed.

Niskanen didn't do much. No way does he deserve all tourney team. T.G.'s Miller played much better. But Schack was very good. 2 goals and an assist in the first game. Winning assist in the second (in overtime) and championship game would never have gone into O.T. without him.

P.S. to other posts, No way does that 8th grader deserve to be all tourney. He had 4pts. in the first period against a team that went 2 and Bar-b-que. He didn't have a point after that. At least not a legit point. They gifted him a bogus assist for his 5th point.

I agree, he had one decent game against a team that is slightly better than the Little Falls team. He is great for his age but I've seen many kids dress Varsity at a young age only to see them be on the 3rd line by their senior year. I'll wait before I decide how good this kid will be.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... ntheice at: 3/6/05 8:08 pm
