Great Players in this Great Tournament

Post by gopher10 »

What players were the most exciting to watch?

I personally really liked the play of #12 on Moorhead. Cory Johnson, although little, is a great player to watch at the high school level. He has such great speed and quickness.

Mattson and Barribal were also fun to watch, as was Lee on Morrhead.

The most underrated player I thought, was Godlewski on Elk River. That kid has some amazing upside and will do well in juniors I think and move onto a D1 school. Cade Fairchild also looked great on DE. He will definatly be a great force for them in the coming years.

Overall this tournament had some great players and many I did not mention, but congratulations to the players on a job well done this year. The entertainment was excellent, and I am already missing high school hockey, and it's only been 2 hours.

Norling, could arguably be the best goalie in state. Sorry, Bluedevilhockey.

Kangas has back to back games where he is all against 2 of the best teams in the state and gives up only 5 goals? He was way better then Norling, Thiele and Norling were good but Kangus was the man in state

THIELE ISN'T THAT GOOD.. that goalie is overrated for sure! Did you see the goal by Hoody in the TG/ Warroad game? You can't let in a shot like that, it wasn't even a good one!! It went right under his leg! People just think he's awesome because he's on Warroad and Warroad is awesome. Yeah, Kangas is definitely good but it'd be different if Norling had played all the games throughout the year. He was sharing games with the backup goalie (who played in the first Breck game.. that could have something to do with the score). You can't deny it though, did you see some of Norling's saves? What a quality goalie.

I'm glad somebody else noticed Godlewski, he looked amazing. A lot of players impressed me:

T.J Oshie-I knew about his skill, but I was impressed by how physical he played. Arguably the play of the tourney for the game winner against Totino.

Dave Norling-Made some amazing saves all tourney. Definitely one the better goalies in the state.

Taylor Mattson, Jay Barribal-Put these two together because they always seemed to making things happen. Both will be fun to watch next year.

Cory Johnson-A lot of speed. Just looked like a playmaker.

Chris VandeVelde-Carried the Moorhead offense. Made plays around the net.

Brian Connelly-Most only saw him for one game, but he made plays throughout. Goal in consolation championship was unreal.

Jordan Schroeder-Played well beyond his years. Warroad put the clamps on a bit but he still impressed.

Brian Connelly's shot in the consolation championship was AMAZING. Shot from the red line...

I also agree with Barribal and Matson, whenever they are out on the ice something seems to happen

However, every player that played in the state tournament has a great amount of talent no matter who they are. Congratulations to everyone who made it that far.

Keaton Smith from AHA impressed me, mostly because the talk before the tournament was goaltending being a soft spot for the stars. He was great in the semi's against Tartan, without him the Stars wouldnt have been in the championship game, then holding the Spuds to 4 was a pretty good accomplishment.

I heard that two Albert Lea players tied each other for the most points in the State tournament, including A and AA, thats commendable!

Jay Barribal played simply amazing in the final. He showed up in front of 18,000 and showed why there was so much hype around him. Mr Hockey 2006.

Thiele made THE play of the Tourny when he stopped McDonald from point blank in the 2nd OT. I don't know how he saved that!

Youre right, a little too far with Jay, but he is definetly the front runner in my mind.
Go Buffs

Great read, gopher10. #12 Cory Johnson is short, but even better, he's strong and never gives up. Barribal has to have the scouts drooling with his speed. Aside from the one or two mentioned, overall the goaltending wasn't fantastic.

lol man i agree Kangas is good but u might be a lil obsessed with him! Ur reasoning for y u think he is good should be based of his performances through out the year and at state not cuz u kno him and ur good friends. I kno him but I don't think he's the best goalie cuz of that I think he is good because of his performances and his ability to carry ur team to state! <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... smokin.gif ALT=":smokin">
