6AA in 2005-06

Post by Bookhout21 »

I'm especially interested in everybody's opinion of Edina & EP next year. Jefferson is losing quite a few seniors, but they should have more than enough to remain solid, and more than in the hunt in playoffs.

I don't see Edina with any uptick next year, while EP should be solid and one of the better teams - basically holding firm.

I don't see Benilde as much of a threat as they were at best mediocre this year, and are losing far too much. I don't think they would have even made the semis this year. Minnetonka is a complete mystery to me, also interested in thoughts on them next season.

I heard a rumor that Jaskowiak may be leaving Benilde to go to either Jefferson or some school out east next year. Can anyone confirm that? If he does, look for Jefferson to again be one of the stronger teams, even with all the seniors we are losing. We still got Lee in the nets and Levine at forward, two of the better players at their postion next year.

Although Jefferson is losing a good amount of seniors, there are alot of impact sophomores and juniors this year that will fill in their spots and remain solid. I still stay Jefferson can take this section if they work their hardest.

There are some very good juniors though on Jefferson that will play big next year. On D watch out for Dieter and Roberts. They will provide some offense from the point. Forwards we still got Levine, and forwards such as LaBombard and Hovey will step up and have nice years. Jefferson also has some decent players on their JV that will play varsity as well. Then they still got Lee in nets, and he will possibly be goalie of the year next year. Jefferson will be fine.

Koren- you make very good points. Austin will get better over the summer and watch out 6AA, the Jags will be back.

Obviously Connelly, Overman, Wild, Ruff, etc. will be big losses. But if this team gets good leadership from players like Lee, LaBombard, and others they got the talent there. Remember, this team won their Bantam championship fairly big, if I remember correctly, even if Mueller was on the team, too. They got the talent though to make a run to the championship if it all comes together.

Every goalie goes through a rough stretch. It just so happens that his was over the state tournament. Even so, he didn't play completely horrible against AHA. He let in that one soft Hawkins got from the blue line, but the other goals were off a rebound and a breakaway. He only let in three goals against your stars, which is better than what most goalies can say.

Like I said, a rough stretch. To be fair, Godlewski had two great slappers in 20, both in which Austin was screened. In the WBL game, he gave up to many rebounds, and it came back to haunt him. He needs to work on rebounds and staying in the net when the opposing team dumps it in. YOU DONT NEED TO GET THE PUCK EVERYTIME IT GOES BEHIND THE NET, AUSTIN!

I don't think you can say that Lee doesn't come up in big games, he allowed only 2 goals in 3 section games. He did have his struggles in state, but so did Faust, the Metro Goalie Of The Year. This will be an interesting section. Right now I would say Eden Prairie is the favorite. Jefferson appears to be right behind, and Edina and Minnetonka could make some noise. I'm not sure about Benilde, but I don't think they will be a factor, at least not next year. It should once again be one of the tougher sections.

the road to state for them was easy, and especially for lee, his D played good in front of him... he choked when he got to the big show

Let's not talk about the road to state being easy, it was much tougher than Holy Angels. There is no point in bashing either Lee or Smith, they are both good goalies.

Hopkins, Edina, Eden Prairie is harder than having to go through Minneapolis South, Eastview, and Apple Valley. If Jefferson's road to state was easy, how easy was AHA's? Yes Keaton played better than Austin during state. Look at the whole year, though, and Austin outplayed him in a much tougher conference then AHA's.

Koren - The championship you're referring to was a Peewee A team, not Bantams. Levine, Hovey, LaBombard & Dieter were on that team with Mueller. Schofield will come up from the JV next year, he was on that team as well and he will surprise a lot of people next year. Dupont was at Kennedy at the time, but I'd also look for a much stronger year from him in 05-06 also. If some key guys from JV focus on their work during the off-season, they will step right in and absolutely shock many people. Remember, the Peewee A team that followed the state champ team that Mueller, Levine, Hovey, LaBombard & Dieter was on was runner-up at state the following year, losing to Duluth East by a hair, and some excellent players on JV this year were on that team.

Austin Lee will be the man next year, as he was this year, any talk to the contrary is misinformed.

No reason why the Jags can't take the section again in 05-06 if they perform to their potential. Look for them to struggle a bit early next year, then turn it on big time!

The way Jefferson played that night, though, they could have beaten them just as bad as they beat EP, if not bigger than. Obviously they weren't gonna beat them 9-1 like they did earlier in the year, but Jefferson had AV's number the whole year.
