On the Minnhock home page the final page2stat rankings are up. They are just computer rankings, so the computer doesnt realize that AHA is state champs and things like that. But according to Lee's version of the BCS it is:

1. Moorhead
2. Centennial
3. Holy Angels
4. Warroad
5. Jefferson
6. White Bear Lake
7. Apple Valley
8. Hill-Murray
9. Eden Prairie
10. Breck

The computer just determines things like strength of schedule, wins, quality wins, and things like that.

I like the rankings. Moorhead is better than Holy Angels, but as everyone except the holy angels fans will probably agree--the best team never wins the state tournament.

I disagree and i'm not particularly an AHA fan although I do like watching them play. If you win state you should be #1, and if you make it to state, and beat a team there, you should be ranked higher than them (East ahead of WBL), just like if make it to state, you should be ahead of the team you beat in the section finals (WBL ahead of Centennial).

I like the computer rankings though, they are great throughout the year, its just the final ones that are flawed because the computer takes it as if the teams simply played a 31 game regular season and the last 6 games were no more important than the rest.

nice post... especially about the number 1 thing.. i dont think it matters who MIGHT be better

aha is 1-0 against moorhead
moorhead is 0-1 against aha

i dont think anything else speaks louder than that

MNPuckster, there is a momentum factor built in where games earlier in the season count less than games played later in the season. I know that the state tournament games aren't weighted as highly as some people (defined here, of course, as fans of state championship teams who demand their props) would like, but they are weighted higher than other games played.

The stated goal of the system, as I've said before, is to design a system that will do the best possible job of seeding the sections. In other words, to beat out the coaches seeding those sections.

Hey, be thankful I don't just emulate Pairwise

Lee
____________
Message Board arsonist since 2005

Lee I love your rankings, I think they should be used to seed the sections with a few twists (Tartan swept Hill but is still lower, I know they arent in the same section but if they were Tartan would have to be higher...... And i'm a Hill fan saying that). Just the end of the year rankings need to at very least have the state champ ranked #1.

As much as I like Lee and all he has done for this board, I must disagree with the ranking system. Rankings are only good for arguments, as we have seen on this board over and over and over. We all know after the tournament is over who is the best in the land, and usually it changes year after year.
The same happens in all other sports at all levels......
I just want to say that I have seen some posts on this board from fellow followers of my beloved Angels that I am ashamed to admit I am a part of. I will leave it at that....
________________________________
2005 GIRLS STATE CHAMPS!
2002 & 2005 BOYS STATE CHAMPS!!
GO STARS!!

These are rating's and they are fun. Most people disagreeing are talking about POLL'S and they are fun too. One uses formula's to decide and the other goes on what people think.

top 10

I agree that they are fun to look at, but i don't throughly agree on them most of the time. I mean Hill-Murray in the top ten? Let's play hockey puts them at #19 in AA.

Rankings are for the Fans. They do not take into account rivalries or injured players during games. They produce discussion and emotion, but just that. The winners are proven on the ice. I like the rankings, but keep them in perspective.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... tyblade at: 3/16/05 11:46 am

The rankings look at the season as a whole and creates rankings based on many factors, as previously stated. The State Tournament looks at who came to play on a given day.
Rankings and Tournament Champs are two different things with completely different meanings.
I enjoy the rankings, it makes for interesting discussions and is fun to watch develop over the season... BUT.... AHA are the State Champs!
