You bring something up to me. It's about how you couldn't find another team to put in. I'm glad you brought this up. If you think about it, really the only teams you could put at the top were AHA, Moorhead, WBL, and Jefferson. The rest were pretty even with each other in my opinion, and they could have been moved in many different ways on the rankings chart.

Am I the only one who made it out of work to get to the Thursday afternoon quarterfinals? Duluth East beat WBL in the STATE TOURNAMENT!!!

Why doesnt anyone have Jefferson ranked ahead of WBL? or Elk River ahead of Tartan? or Tartan ahead of Duluth East???

I dont care who you are, if you make it to state, and beat a certain team at state, you should be ranked higher than them in the final rankings. Why is WBL an exception to the rule? They are a top 5 team but you cant put them ahead of East, no way.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... kster27 at: 3/14/05 8:54 pm

apparently you werent at the game. WBL outplayed DE by a longshot, shots were 29-13. The score didnt define the game.
The curse lives on.....

Who advanced to the semifinals?

Moorhead outshot AHA 41-18
Tartan outshot AHA 31-24
Jefferson outshot AHA 25-18

Why is AHA #1 and ranked ahead of those 3 teams? What makes WBL an exception?

I'm not ripping WBL I had them 4th in my final rankings on the first page. If you want to put them ahead of Tartan go ahead, they didnt meet at state, but you cant put them ahead of a team they lost to in the state tournament.

First, like many, I saw the East WBL game, East had 13 shots, the better team did not win that game. That is sports, the better team doesn't always win. If you came away from that game thinking East was the better team you're a homer pure and simple. I was cheering for East, I was glad they won, but plain and simple WBL outplayed them, that's why I put WBL in front of East. MNPuckster, Cloquet beat East twice should they be in front of those teams plus East as well? In a one game and out tournament anything can happen I don't base my rankings on just one game rather the whole season.

Second, I saw the WBL 2-0 win over Moorhead, Moorhead also beat WBL so it's a toss up. They didn't play in the state tournament so do I give Moorhead an edge because they had an easier quarterfinal opponent than WBL? Or because Faust melted down in one period? I choose not to. I saw both teams tear up Century at the state tournament and was more impressed with WBL so I gave them the edge. I also watched AHA break down Moorheads vaunted defense for 5 goals so it would be tough for me, no matter the shots, to not have AHA number 1, bonus points for their game with Shattuck as well.

I always had trouble with LPH season ending rankings where they automatically gave the 8 teams in the state tournament the top 8 places in their final poll, no matter that WBL or Austin in succesive years came out with sub .500 records. Just my opionion on ranking teams, everyone has their own, and we're all right.

So I suppose we should call up all members of the 1980 USA olympic team and have them give their gold medals back to the Soviet Team, right?<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/eyes.gif ALT=":rolleyes">

WBL also tied AHA twice, should we name them co-champs of AA?

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... kster27 at: 3/14/05 9:30 pm

Where did I say East shouldn't have gotten 3rd place in the state tournament? Were the Soviets the better team, you're ignorant if you say no. Did they lose to the USA yes, like I said, in sports the better team doesn't always win. If they did we would all be in Vegas this weekend betting our mortgage payments on everygame.

The topic is season ending rankings, not state tournament rankings. Base your rankings on 3 games and anything could be the outcome. Your USA example shows that to a T.

FWIW I see the sarcasm but throw WBL, Moorhead , AHA together and:

Moorhead 1-2-0
WBL 1-1-2
AHA 1-0-2

East was in WBL's zone almost as much as WBL was in Easts zone. WBL just shot and shot, their forwards are not that great were they can get good shots. Meanwhile on the opposite end of the rink, East didn't just blast away like WBL did they moved the puck around and waited for a quality shot.

ALSO East and WBL played twice this season. EAST WON both games. SO no way should WBL ranked higher then East. Face it WBL was WAY overrated, they played a couple of good games against moorhead and thats it! Also this is Easts real wins over top 20 teams:
Roseville 5-3
WBL 3-2 two times
Apple Valley 5-3
Rochester Century 5-4
Hastings 4-0
Osse 4-2
The Wisconsin State champs 8-3
Cloquet 3-2
I forgot Tartan 5-3 (Could have been alot worse but East took out Sall and stopped trying to score in the third)

Now I know it isn't as impressive as WBL's wins, but you have to remember you are in the metro and have more access to the best teams.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... hound05 at: 3/14/05 11:10 pm

Way to back up your team greyhound but you dont have to, the only numbers that matter is 3-2. East beat WBL in state, so they should be ranked higher, show me some real rankings in any sport that have anything different?

One Game

Post by MNPuckster27 » Tue Mar 15, 2005 9:17 am

Yep, when its in the state tournament that means both teams beat good teams to get there so it wouldnt be just the one game. Why isnt Moorhead #1 then? They just had one bad game against AHA.

If you are going by who "outplayed" who then Holy Angels is no way #1. They would probably 4 or 5, and Centennial would be ahead of WBL because they outshot WBL by 12 shots, WBL outshot East by 16. The only numbers that matter are 4-3 East.

And by the way East beat WBL twice this year on the ice they just had to forfeit the first one<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... kster27 at: 3/15/05 9:25 am
