I don't think Brian Lee is overrated. He is clearly one of the best players in Minnesota.

Of course he's not overrated, you dont win Mr. Hockey and play on the US Junior team by being overrated.
AHA Stars 2002-2005 State Champs. HOLY COW

Based on his performance at the championship, yes.
But other than that he is a great skater and I'm happy for his accomplishments this year.

Do they give out Mr. Hockey based on championship game performance? Hell no, otherwise there would be many people that wouldn't get it just because they weren't there. I think Brian Lee deserved this award (even with my dislike of Moorhead) and even with his "bad" game, throughout the tournament he showed what kind of player his is and why he deserved the award. He was my pick and I'm glad he got it.
Elk River AA State Champions- 2001 Boys & 2004 Girls

no, i just think that Lee has gotten way too much attention over this past season, and Oshie is just as good and is not given the props he deserves. Same with Cory Johnson for Moorhead, easily one of the best players on the Moorhead team, and in the state, but he is always in Lee's, Vandevelde's, and Ammerman's shadow.

Yes, in the championship game Lee didnt play his best but if you watched the game you would realize that the forwards made mistakes and turned the puck over and this is why he got burned when he got burnt in that game it wasnt all his fault...also i watched lee and oshie and lee is a much better player than oshie is by far

nope... he didnt play perfectly during the tournament, but who can blame him. He was under alot of pressure in that last game and like powerplay said his offense made mistakes that cost the whole team the game. but he helped a great deal in getting his team to the championship. Hes a great player and proved that to everyone during the regular season where moorhead only lost 2 games. Pretty impressive, you cant say someone like that is overrated.

Brian Lee is not overrated. Just wait and see mr. Oshie lover I saw more out of Lee than I had seen out of Oshie.
__________________
Josh Johnson former CEC goalie current UMD goalie

Oshie vs. Lee

Post by hockeyiscool » Sun Mar 13, 2005 12:43 am

First of all, Don't get mad at people for saying Brian Lee didn't impress them at the tournament because everyone has a bad game or two......and then go say Oshie didn't impress you at the 3 games he played at the tourney. First of all in my opinion Oshie was a better candidate for Mr. Hockey. But for everyone if these two fine young hockey players don't impress you then I'm not quite sure what your looking for out of high school hockey players. Lee is a heck of a defenseman and very deserving of the award. Oshie had an incredible season and made the play to win the state championship. I don't know how you can say these two players didn't impress you <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ohwell.gif ALT=":\">

The award was decide prior to the tournament so his performance in the tournament did not matter. He was hyped up, so no matter what he did somebody would cut him up.
________________________________
2005 GIRLS STATE CHAMPS!
2002 & 2005 BOYS STATE CHAMPS!!
GO STARS!!

I just wanna know whos posing as Josh Johnson. Either hes got a computer sitting in the bulldogs locker room, or somebody else thinks they are him. Post at 10:30 sat night, pretty sure the first thing he does when he gets in the locker room is not check the message board. Maybe im missing something, wouldnt be the first time, just thought it was a little wierd though.

Being a candidate for Mr. Hockey is similar to a candidate for Hobey Baker. All of them are very good, if not great, hockey players. Based on the season performance, not playoffs, they are chosen by a knowledgeable panel. Lee won this year. I am sure Oshie had his share of votes.

In past years players have won with discrepancies too, but never less won the award. Congratulations to Lee, you are very deserving!

Oshie

Post by Sabreman86 » Sun Mar 13, 2005 12:59 pm

I agree with everyone who said Oshie should have gotten the award over Lee. He got the state championship, had about 100 points for a team who went undefeated, and in my opinion is one of the best all around high school players. Many very good hockey players at the high school level play only offense, Oshie did it all.

I also found this strange, especially the way this person is talking about other players on UMD. You would think that if it really was Josh he would have more common sense than to talk about his teammates like that in front of everyone.

Oshie by far should have won over Lee even Matt Niskanen from Virgina i thought had a better chance of winning it if it doesn't count as much in the playoffs where he didn't go very well but had his share of points in the playoffs and had way more points then Lee in the Season.

Points, Points, Points, That's one superficial way of evaluating someone. And as stated before the selection was done before the tourney. If Oshie won, I wouldn't say he didn't deserve it, Some great candidates, but Lee DID deserve it, no doubt about it.
Niskanen?? Your Crazy on that one. I had 134 points at Romkey Park last year shouldn't I be Mr. Hockey??
