I get so sick of the banner talk. To me bringing up the past is just making excuses for present failures. What are those banners going to do for you this year, put the puck in the net against the Spuds? I don't think so! Hey, it is great to have a great past, but you can't live in it!!

Slappy, Where were your mighty spuds in 98, 99, and 00? Not at state. Sure, you were there in 01?, 02, 03, and 04, but where are your championship banners? Your words do hold true for the past few seasons, but Roseau is on it's way back to the top. If Moorhead and Warroad dont get any of those "new players that want to play for a winning team," then I see Roseau sweepin both teams in the next four-five seasons. (To be realistic....maybe Roseau and Moorhead will split the 06/07 season and it will be one gret section final). It is the never ending cycle that is hockey. Enjoy that top while you can...as you seem to be doin a pretty good job of.

MightySpud, you're exactly the kind of idiot they've been talking about. Just some stupid kid who jumped on the wagon and hasn't paid attention before they got good... if you did you'd know that the Rams won the title in 1990 and 1999. (and if you didn't at least do some homework on Minnhocks state tourny history page before yapping your mouth) I'm a solid Section 8 supporter for both A and AA. and being from moorhead a huge spud fan. and those banners we have hanging at the sports center just represent a lump in my throat for every state tourny they've been in. and its because of idiots like you that the rest of the state (or anybody who reads this board) wants the spuds to go another season without what they deserve. and honestly I wish there was a way people like me could finally see them win just this once, and people like you could experience what it feels like to get so close and yet so far.

I agree completely highohockey. I would love to see the spuds represent section 8 and bring home some first place hardware, but the fans of Moorhead must make it too easy to dislike them. And when i say fans...i mean the people that choose to speak on this message board.

this thread went form, "is moorhead creating a bad name for the north?" to "my team has more banners than yours!" growing up in northern minnesota, i always loved watching the northern teams win in the state tournament over the cities teams, and always will. everyone on this site needs to realize that whoever is winning and has been winning for the last 5 consecutive years, is going to be a disliked team by everyone who is on the losing end. same reason no ne likes the yankees or atlanta braves, they always win. and moorhead has won the last 4 years now, and will win their section again this year. they are ranked #1 in the state, so everyone will hate them and root against them. they aren't a traditional "northern" sleepr pick for the state tournament, they are a perrenial powerhouse that nobody wants to play against, so to compare them to the underdog teams of roseau and rapids that won in the past is illogical. give credit where credit is due, and that credit is due to moorhead on a fantastic season thus far. it is not due to roseau because they have "cool banners" in their arena. no one cares about those banners except the people whose teams aren't winning as of now. so give it a rest. all you people are doing is losing credibility for yourselves by making yourselves sound like arrogant idiots that don't have a clue about hockey, just how to count banners. goodluck to the spuds this postseason, hopefully you can win the title and put up your own pretty banner so everyone will let this ridiculous subject go.

IMO: I think "northern team" has become synonomous with non-city team. If it was a Century/(pick your Metro) final, all northern fans would root for Century. "Northerners" hate city teams, and are suprised that the feeling is not mutual. City fans are simply "David vs Goliath". We root for the Roseau's even when their favorites. Mostly its only here on this board that you add in the "Transfer Factor", the "Braggart/Blowhard Factor" that causes resentment. It seems like the resentment that was aimed at the Privates and Catholics is now being directed toward da Spuds and their always gracious and humble fans. Could it be that Privatephobia has been replaced by Spudphobia? What are the phobics going to do if there is a championship game featuring the Catholics vs Da Spuds? Maybe they can sit up in the stands and chant "Mr Potatohead's money".

Plus you should be a proud Spud knowing that we have a good enough program to go there many years and actually not go two and out. I would love to see the Spuds win the tourney, so maybe you should know a little more before assuming things about people. Is the north hated because of Moorhead? Easy answer NO! People from Roseau need to let up, I remember before Roseau opted up they were saying the same thing to the Warroad people. Its not the fact that Roseau hates Moorhead, they just hate the fact that they havent gotten past Moorhead lately. I give credit to Roseau, you got some great banners up but please, leave the past in the past, none of those players are comming back anytime soon to help your team out. My advice to Roseau is when you lose to Moorhead in sections dont walk out and pout like you are well known for doing. Stand in there and cheer for the boys that tried there best. I remember afew years back when Warroad beat Roseau to go to state in East Grand Forks and about 75% of the Roseau fans walked out before the Rams got the section runner up trophy. Warroad fans cheered for the Rams players who had been left on the ice with very little support, then the write up in the Herald the next day bashing Roseau. So when you talk about respect remember back to them days ok boys
