The arena board has been trying to get rid of Mr Hasbargen for a couple of years. Why? No one seems to know, the president doesn't like him I guess. The president has been a youth hockey coach in the past who past over good players because they were better than his son. He no longer has boys in hockey, but can't quite leave well enough alone. I hope Mr Fermoyle and Mr Hasbargen coach the high school team again next year. Albert coached bantams for years and the arena didn't suffer. By the way, the arena manager job was opened for applications and they got one!!

flipshot: I'm guessing by your goofy comments on practice prep you have no real coaching experience. I'm sure if you asked the fellow posters who have also coached they'd agree you don't just slop two to two and a half hours worth of drills together in five minutes and call it a practice. Also, I hope your offhanded comments on rink management earlier were tongue in check because they were pretty dumb if they weren't. If you want to take lessons on trolling ask the masters: warroadsalt, birdmister or carpenter guy.

SectionFan you asked earlier who was on the Warroad Arena Board they are: Conway Marvin, Dave Ulwelling, Jeff Scheving, Mike Marvin, Brian Johnston, Brian Erickson and Mike Bahnmiller.

Warroadites: I hope when any of you see these guys on the street or at work ask them about the situation. Call them at home or work. They wanted the job and the bad goes with the good. If you don't like what they are trying to do tell them how you feel. Some will listen, some won't listen, some will agree, some won't agree, some will give it to you straight, some will spin it to suit themselves but I guarantee none will belly laugh about it anymore.

Renagrade Ram you don't get what I am saying, I am just saying if you have coached at the Bantam level for 10 years you probably know how to conduct a good practice. And what rink management comment are you referring to?

Arena Manager

I also find it unusual that Albert was allowed to coach the Bantams for many years and thus coaching many of the arena board members sons and they never had a problem with him or how the arena was being ran. But now that he is at the high school level he can't perform his job at the arena. I agree that there are some underlying reasons that the board has for his removal.

Another Question

How does one become an arena board member?

Are they elected, do they volunteer, or picked by someone.

Just wondering how these people aquired such powerful positions.

Arena Board

Post by Puckguy » Fri Apr 29, 2005 3:24 pm

First you have to consider that the arena in Warroad was donated by Tut and Jack Marvin. Tut's son Conway is mentioned in the article as a board member - that would appear to be a natural fit. Over the years, board members have usually been part of the inner circle in Warroad hockey. Cal Marvin led the board for years, and his son Mike followed. Not sure if he's officially part of it or not, but I would suspect he holds some sway over what is done.

If I had to hazard a guess, I would say its a prime appointment with considerable power. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/pimp.gif ALT=":hat">

Arena Board

Post by WHS watcher » Fri Apr 29, 2005 4:08 pm

I can see how Conway and Mike have kind of grandfathered onto the arena board because of their fathers. The others I start to question why they are there or who put them there. Do all of them even have kids playing hockey in Warroad. Also, help me out here if I am wrong, aren't the rest of the members guys that used to work for Conway or friends of his. Just wondering.

The bottom line is why would you replace coaches that have just won the state class a tournament and had a fantastic season?? Something had to have been said or done for this to have happened. Even if you disagree with a few board members about coaching the arena or whatever this is a drastic step. I would think it could hurt the whole community if sides were to be taken. All I can say is there will be no winner here. Everyone will lose from ex-coach to the new one coming in and having to deal with a board that will act like this.

One thing to no is that most of these guys on the arena boards are puppets... plain and simple, what ever the "head honcho" says, they go with... as stated before albert coached bantams for many years and had twice or three times as many games and he was successful in coaching and yet in mainting a top facility in the state. Personally I think Albert and Fermolye should say piss on them and walk out. Put the ball in their court and see how they respond. No matter what the outcome is, the arena board will never be happy...........

Where to place the Bulleyes

Post by Renegade Ram » Fri Apr 29, 2005 11:33 pm

Most of you guys are taking the shots at the wrong guy. From the way it was explained to me there is a definite divide on the board. This time around the Bullseye should be squarely placed on Mike Marvin and his buddies. Why I've gotten so steamed with this one and decided to speak up is because I've got a kid moving up into this program and I am more than pleasantly pleased with whats in there for coaches right now. They've both learned from the master. I feel this is the first opportunity that my player has had to have real top-flight coaching in this community as it has been a struggle to watch the youth coaches in action especially at the squirt and pee-wee levels. I have a vested interest in this and I hope they stay because they are the right guys. And the other reason I did this was the belly laugh the Arena Board member gave me when I told him I would make sure this got on here and make them look really bad. The best part is the call I got today from one of the other Arena board members who thanked me for helping to get the TRUTH (that's what he said) out to the public. As for the town being divided it already is with a vast majority in the keep it as is camp. Here's a tip: When your on a board of some sort be careful who you pooh-pooh and laugh at. That person may have a larger interest in the situation than you realize and just may take it to the next level.

Not good!

Post by crosscheck » Sat Apr 30, 2005 6:12 am

Fermoyle and Hasbargen did a great job with the kids. They coach for the right reasons. Hockey is one of them. Plus they WON IT ALL!

That being said, this looks like just another typical Warroad situation that pisses many people off. My question for the motive of the arena board would be, do they feel that Fermoyle and Hasbargen don't have the clout/time/connections to bring in the next wave of quality players? I don't want to change the topic, as it is done over too much, but realistically, it is in the back of everyones mind when it pertains to Warroad.

Sorry, but it had to be said.

On a earlier post it was stated that the app deadline was yesterday. Has anyone got any info on who they are trying to bring in ?? My guess is that one of the board members has someone in the wing waiting.

Funny, I was in TRF watching baseball yesterday and talked with people from both TRF and Bemidji and they were laughing about this. And I talked with some of the Roseau boys Thursday night - talk about a group that is having a field day with this, they are crowing and cackling over this and I don't blame them. They all felt it to be the stupidest thing they'd ever heard. But they also all had it figured out that Mike was the driving force; they all said no one else could be that dumb. They know it isn't the regular average joe but they said to a man it still puts a bad light on the community as a whole. My solution is get an Arena Board meeting together ASAP and put this one to bed FOREVER. Let's let these guys run the program for as long as THEY want, THEY'VE EARNED it. Mike what have you earned...other than a goofball reputation.
