Cretin-Derham Hall (5-1) @ St Thomas (3-1) 12-22-08

Post by HShockeywatcher » Wed Dec 17, 2008 10:25 am

One of the biggest and longest lasting rivalries in all of MN sports is between St Thomas and Cretin. Last year was the first time St Thomas won the match up in a while, although FSN commented that St Thomas is winning the all time match up. Both teams lost their only game to a top notch opponent this year. The St Thomas Hockey Arena will most likely sell out quite early, but if you don't want to deal with walking half a mile to get from your car, it will be on FSN at 7:30pm.

should be a good game. I predict that the Raiders will make a fight out of it, and that it will go down to the wire, but St. Thomas will pull it off.
4-2 St. Thomas, with empty net

raiders in a close one 3-2. There playing well right now there top two lines are scoring a ton with 32 goals throughout the team mostly from them and Alt, and the d has been pretty solid. But no matter what this will be a great game.

Rumor has it that STA is limiting the amount of tickests available to CDH to 100 tickets. That is the lamest thing I have ever heard of. Quit being a bunch of babies and play the game no matter who shows up. Are you afraid you won't get very many fans to show up? If you want to prove you can "play with the big boys," prove it. My prediction is CDH 8 - STA 1 (fluke goal late in the 3rd).

Prediction #2 = STA = 0-3 at the Schwan's cup.

Get realistic. 8-1? I think Cretin wins the game, but I have a feeling it will be closer than 8-1.

Just bought my ticket. They're not limiting any ticket sales, relax CDH homer.

good prediction IMO. STA pretty much controlled/dominated the whole game except for the first half of the 1st period. STA looks solid once again.

Did anyone else see Kevin Gorg pump his fist after interviewing Kurt Altricher?

The shots were 19 CDH 24 STA, and scoring chances were even at 16 according to FSN. All of CDH shots were basically scoring chances. It was a good game, i wouldn't quite say they flat out dominated the whole game, they just buried. Kurt played great.

STA looked very quick, and they should be favorites to capture the JV championship (even though Marshall beat them -- they are young, expect improvements). CDH looked a little flat at times, and the topline (bangs especially) was completely ineffective. Zimmerman should be playing defense. CDH's second line however, was very good. I think both teams will be at the excel. Overall goaltending was the main difference, Altrichter is vastly underrated. Anyone else think Isaacson (despite the goal) played poorly today compared to his usual output.

By the way, Gorg needs to go FSN!!!![/code]

I'm not sure if he played poorly mainly because I haven't seen him play all that much, but I don't feel that he stood out that much. He seemed to be lazy at times, but I'm not sure.

Yeah i also havent thought Isaacson has been overly impressive this year yet. I think he is starting to get used to not having a linemate like Ryan Walters to play with. he is starting to ask for the puck a little more.

The game though was good. Alrichter has been playing stellar in nets all year. CDH only had two shots in the 2nd period. ALT did not stand not, as much as Isaacson did not stand out either. HOWEVER, Isaacson is still only a Junior.

I was at the game and just one's man's opinion, but i didn't think Isaccson or Alt played with much intensity. Especially Alt. For as big and strong as he is it didn't look to me like he really wanted to get his nose dirty. He was really a non factor from what i saw. He certainly wasn't any kind of offensive threat. Where was big T.Zimm? Did he play?
I've seen a handful of the top players this year who have made commitments . Is this the norm now? Make a commitment and then take the year off?

I hate to say this, but I watched Cretin play twice last year and Alt didn't stand out either time. I am not sure what Lucia sees in this kid besides his size potential given his dad. He looks great as a QB though.

Just another thing to add to the players that are committed to the U and other colleges. Unless you they are a senior, they havent officially signed any scholarship offer. Only a verbal commitment. Most schools will try to get more verbal commitments than scholarships available so they have some options when it comes to actually getting a player to sign.

Example: A player verbally commits to the U. Has a bad senior year and the U tells them to go play a year of juniors. They could opt to go to another school or go play juniors. If they dont excel there, they may not even make it with the U.

It will be interesting in the next couple of years with all of this new early recruiting business going on. Who really pans out and who has already peaked to there potential.
