Section 4A???

Post by packerpuck19 » Mon Jan 19, 2009 12:23 pm

Who will be the team to prevail from this section? With STA, SSP, Maht., and Totino. In my eyes any of these teams could beat any of these teams on any given night. So who makes the trip to St. Paul?

I completely agree with you packerpuck. St. Thomas is obviously a perennial powerhouse and they have a great chance to retunr downtown. The Packers are a defensively strong team and can ride their goalie for a big win. Mahtomedi has a very dangerous player in Marshall and could upset anyone. Dont know anything bout Totino but im sure they are a solid group.

So St Paul seems to be getting better every week.
Today I would take them.

Coach Vanelli knows how to win.

Mahtomedi has a very solid team.

Totino would be the darkhorse, but very capable.

That's my order today, but ask me again Wednesday and it would be different.

This ought to be the best section in class A...we all know that. STA is bound to get upset one of these years and not go to STATE. Like everyone has said Maht, SSP, and TG all have a shot at taking it from STA...so to make a prediction on who makes the dance....i gotta go with SSP

Does anyone know what Mahtomedi's goaltending is like? I hear so much about Marshal, but you dont ever hear anything about there goaltending. That will be the key to completing an upset.

SLP has some young talent helping them turn into a contender. Two one goal losses to Mahtomedi and Totino earlier in the year, then pounded Totino the other day. Their playing great hockey now, Just might be a five team race.

Section 4A???

Post by Leave It To Beaver » Fri Jan 30, 2009 1:24 pm

I watched the SLP/Totino-Grace game and I would say that Totino was out scored by SLP not necessarily out played or pounded by SLP. I give credit to SLP for winning, but the score did not reflect how the game was played. Totino started their back-up goalie, and did play sloppy at times, but they out shot SLP 2 to 1 in the first period and were down 3-0 after one. Totino continued their 2 to 1 shooting ratio and missed 3 break aways in the second period. Totino controlled most of the game by dominating in the corners and around the net. SLP responded by icing the puck on a regular basis and had one player who played very well and had a heck of a shot; SLP's goalie also played very well. In my opinion Totino has more skilled players across the board and more depth and I would have to pick Totino over SLP during the play-offs. Just some views and comments from a neutral party. It was a fun game to watch!

Guessing they will play again in the first round, so we'll see who is the best then. SLP would/should get the higher seed due to the margin of victory.

couldnt agree more. SLP plays great against good teams and always seems to play decent against ok teams. But if they come ready to play i think SLP could have a chance to make it to the section final. i wouldnt say they are going to win it but they could make it to the section final. Who is carrying this team? didnt they lose about 12 seniors last year?

ok umm i think they could possibly beat totino in the quarters but they are going to play St. Thomas in Semifinals and will not beat them.. no offense to them but STA is the #1 team in state and have too much depth. Semis is the farthest i see them going

STA vs TG this coming week will be a great game, and possibly a look into the section finals. SSP has a great goalie so we'll see how far he can take them. STA is the best team in the section, although the section has some pretty good teams.

STA will get the 1 seed, Totino 4 or 5, so this would be a look into a possible semi-final matchup. Should be a good game, as Totino has played very well against top competition, and will have the top player on the ice IMO. Of course, if Totino wins they could be looking at the 3 seed, in which case, who knows? Will just have to see how it all plays out.

With the 10-0 trouncing that STA put on Totino I would have to say that this has turned into a 3 team race. I really thought Totino was a better team than this, obviously they are not at the level it takes to compete in this section.

Mahtomedi with a convincing win over Hill Murray really brings them back into the mix more than they were a week ago. STA still the favorite, but I am really interested to see what happens when they play SSP later this year. Im hoping that the Packers can play all 3 periods like they played the first two in there last meeting which resulted in a tie.

Why is Tyler Olson not playing for TG?

I know he was hurt earlier but he had been playing recently with a nice win over St. Francis, and a very impressive game against Breck.

edit: nevermind, i just saw in another post he was sick.

STA could make it to St. Paul in 5 of the 8 AA sections let alone A. My money is on the Cadets.

I can think of one section, maybe two, I would most likely rule St Thomas out of making it in, what is the third?

(2 and 5 are my thoughts)

I will admit in 6AA they'd be a small fish in a big pond but with a 4-3 win over Tonka, who could be the #1 or #2 seed in 6AA depending on how the rest of the season goes, I wouldn't say I'd say they couldn't make it, whereas, I would say they couldn't in 5AA and 2AA. Just my opinion.
