Is the NWSC talent down that much? - Or is this a throw away list?

it would be interesting to see a freshman/soph. breakdown. Zach McCarver from n.s.p. was up in st. cloud last summer - surprised his name is not here. Is LaValle from h.m. a 93 or 94 ? I am pretty sure the mahtomedi goalies first name is Sawyer, not his last name. And if you go to the Fhit Hockey program, I think you are already under the watchful eye of the ushl.

Does anyone know if the Fhit program is available out state?

Dangles, stop making a fool of yourself online.

This may be the only non-joke list in Minnesota since the livlihood of these scouts depends on them identifying talent early. With this said it is still early and there will be lots of change over the next few years. BTW, the USHL scouts will be the first to tell you this. This list isn't a 100% predicter of D1 advancement and shouldn't be interpreted that way. It is however, generally a very good list of current top talent at the stated age level that in the opinion of the USHL Scouts has the POTENTIAL to play D1 if they keep developing... and as the USHL will tell you they don't get sidetracked on drugs, booze, girls or screwed up by clueless parents... which unfortunately will happen to a lot of kids on this list based on history.

and to the point that a kid who was in St. Cloud isn't on the list... ... and you are surprised... The Minnesota Advanced Program's goal is to identify the best 20 kids in each district/section and that does not always translate into identifying the best 100 kids (most potential) in the state which is clearly the USHL's goal... i.e. lots of kids from big districts don't make it yet would be in top 5 in smaller weaker districts and that's assuming the district advanced process is consistently applied across districts which it isn't. Everyone in the state knows this so sorry to burst your bubble... :D And by the way the USHL scouts will also tell you that the rate of change between 15-19 for boys is the most in a kids development.

...and by the way there are is a mistake or two in terms of birth year and the USHL will be the first to admit they haven't seen every kid skate in the state of Minnesota but chances are they know about most of them...
The USHL's convert rate of kids to D1 from their league 80+ % is the only testimony that matters... not yours or mine for that matter.

...so don't be-little this list because you incriminate yourself when you do...

Thanks for the accurate clarification Factsmatter 1. Tons of variables which affect these youngsters...who's to say which will make it to the next level. Their future is in their own hands.

This list came from USHL Central Scouting. This is only 93's. I don't believe there are any Bantams on this list, even though there are many 93's still playing Bantams. A 92 and 94 list is to come out later in February.

It's all becoming clear now, I've been told there are alot of well known scout's that live in the Edina area (get good info at HS hockey games). Explains the Edina-6 Minnetonka-5 Eden Prarie-4 - 15+ other good programs zippo thing. At least good hockey(NWSC)(Northland) wins out over bad politics(lakes)in the end. I would also like to congratulate the Pioneers-7 on their wonderful recruiting class ...........Go ahead bring it on! :P

I would have to agree with MrBoDangles. No one from Centennial, Blaine, either there is no scout in the NE metro or they just can't evaluate talent. The Goalie from Mahtomedi is Sawyer Marshall.

Many of the kids on this list will never see the USHL, or D1 for that matter. And many kids NOT on the list WILL see USHL and D1 opportunities. It's just a snap-shot of the scouts' opinions at any one time.

If you want your kid to be seen by these scouts when it matters, get them into the Elite League and the Advanced 15,16,17 stuff. If they don't make those, then make sure they play their arse off in every league that they play in as these scouts aren't looking for kids who, "if given the opportunity", can do better. They are looking for the kids who can play even when the going is tough.

Also note that every year several "late-bloomers" show up and get drafted, and play in, the USHL and make committments to D1 programs. Don't get all concerned about lists, they aren't as important as playing well.

That would be only 5 for Hill as the list has both
J.D. Cotroneo - Hill Murray - D and James Controneo - Hill-Murray - D same kid.

Also has this young man who is still dealing with his unfortunate medical condition.
Duke Pieper - Hill Murray - D

So I would say that is a list from last summer that hasn't been updated at all.

D10 Talent, is it suspect?

Post by MoveYourFeet »

No 93's from D10- J. Hughes is a 92 along with Lovick. The only Centennial player on the list is Salewski and he is enrolled at Grace. The Rileys, Colvards, Brudzinskis etc.. might be late bloomers, maybe they are not involved in Fhit, maybe they have not been to the exposure camps. A lot of maybes, call and let the staff know about the Blaine, Cent and the rest of the 93 talent in D10.

You have to toot your own horn sometimes to get invited to the party.

Hear is last years 92 list rated by the USHL scouts, make up your own mind how accurate they are.

4: Player is an absolute super star and there is no question he will play in the NHL.

3: Player will be an NHL draft pick and a top end player in Division 1 NCAA college.

2: Player is an outstanding player and will play NCAA Division 1 college hockey. Several of these players will also turn out to be NHL draft selections.

1: Player brings a talent or quality to the game, that may allow him to play NCAA Division 1 college hockey or be an NHL draft selection, and therefore must continue to be scouted.

District 10 has numerous players that are part of fhit's program. Fhit has a primary location at the Blaine super rinks so they are certain to see many of the players from Blaine, Centennial and the rest of the area.

The fhit/ushl scouts go to numerous games during the season to 'scout' the best players and say that they promote players to the ushl so if someone isn't a member of fhit shouldn't matter (unless your saying that they'd deliberately blackball a good player that doesn't use their program). Given that the Blaine super rink has 8 hockey rinks and the fhit headquarters for the area, I would guess that fhit is there quite a bit so they should have seen a large number of these players at tourneys or other league games.

So if Blaine, Centennial and other D10 teams are not well represented the talent level must not be as good -or- perhaps fhit doesn't have as good of a direct connection to the ushl scouting program as everyone seems to imply?

Before you go spouting off you should look at the USHL website. Go to the Scouting Staff section and you will see 4-5 FHIT instructors listed as scouts for the USHL. I will not give out the names as some of you guys are nuts!
