Wow, Edina is gone
Wow, with Edina being left out is this, is this a true reflection of the best team in the State. We have Moorhead, Blaine, EP and Cretin left as the Minnesota State Champion. On paper, there are a number of teams that should be here, but this is a three game tournament, regardless of the paper or coaches poll, these teams have demonstrated with winning they should be their for a State Title. EP vs Blaine and Moorhead vs Cretin. Game on. Good luck to all teams.

The "best teams" are not the teams that get knocked out early. I assume you are talking about Edina. Is a team that has the ability to play great, but doesn't, a "best team"?hockeyxprt1 wrote:This tournament reminds me alot of 2006 and 2007 when the "best" teams went out early. I think it adds to the magic of the tournament when the unexpected happens. Now more than ever it comes down to heart and who wants it the most. Should be fun to watch.
I think EP would take care of Moorheadhalla wrote:Based on what everyone saw yesterday, it sure looks like they have a great shot at the title.nordski48 wrote:Moorhead baby, unbelievable win, i think its there year. They just beat the best team in the nation so i think its about time to get the State Championship to the great city of MOORHEAD

Meanwhile Blaine sits in the wings, quietly DESTROYING everyone that comes in contact. This tournament is doing exactly what it should do, prove who is the BEST team at years end. Hockey is a marathon not a sprint. The intent is not to find out who was most consistent through out the year but who is the best right now.
Tonight will be great.
I have no dog in the fight, I love this tourney. But from what I have seen Blaine is the most balanced team from front to back. Big, fast, ornery and skilled.
I hope it is Moorhead - Blaine.

You gotta love the metro self annointing Edina as this great and powerful team. I thought because you play a tough schedule, you automatically win the state tourney. Roseau got ripped all last year for their "easy" schedule and then ripped at the state tourney because they lost. Maybe the metro isn't as strong as everyone thought this year. Maybe all the state pollsters should rework their rankings. Maybe Section 8 wasn't so weak after all.

Moorhead is in the semi's and Roseau put up a better fight than the Hornets did last night. I'm thinking the metro is a little weak. I take that back, there are strong metro teams, but the media down there, didn't want to talk about the good teams, Eden Prairie, Blaine and the likes. This Edina team may be the most hyped, overrated team ever!

I think it will be a Moorhead-EP final with EP taking it all. EP plays a MUCH different game than Edina. They are built around speed, depth, and defense, while Edina is completly focused on two players. Moorhead was the faster team last night but nobody is faster than Leddy & co. so I will go with the Eagles to win it all.
Edina
Edina's loss shows how hard and how special it is to win a state championship. Not only do you have be be among the best teams with the best talent, you have to play your best hockey in sections and 3 nights in a row in March. One year ago Edina looked like a sure thing to win this year. Even with the loss of Budish to a football injury, they looked to be much better than everyone else. It does look like a lack of depth and not having great goaltending did them in. Makes me more appreciative of Hill-Murray's championship season last year.
