Notice he mentions it a a place for high schoolers to play and not that it is a stepping stone to the NHL like some of you think it should be.

http://www.mnhockeyhub.com/ - a lot more columns this year, just makes you want the season to start tomorrow.

good article! I have to agree and say that I think kids should take a break for a few months in the offseason! A lot more kids get burnt out of hockey and dont want to play by the time they are seniors. Elites is voerrated to begin with! If they want to play fine if not no parent/coach should suggest it, it is not a stepping stone and it doesnt improve your play is it is just games!

A quote from the article ref. Elite I:

"And as impressive as the play on the ice was, so too was the fairness displayed by the coaches who rotated their lines so everybody played and everybody got better."

I hope that the Elite II league might work on taking that lesson more to heart. It is summer development hockey. Some coaches may get that, others don't. From what I've heard and seen the large rosters in Elite II necessitate weekly sit lists that aren't always managed so equitably.

Otherwise, yes it's decent hockey and a good option for some players but not all.

Elite II is no different than another additional hockey activity outside the normal hockey season, weather it be summer hockey camps, a conditioning program, summer hockey league, prospect camp, model camp, exposure camp, Selects, etc.

The hockey player will only get out of it, what they put into it. If they really "want it" and "work harder then the next player" it will help them get to the next level. If they simply participate and expect to automatically move to the next level, they are in for a rude awakening!

Every player is different as far as how much hockey they can take in a single year (at any level). We as parents need to listen to them and look for the signs of burn out.

No option is a universal fit for all. The 25-man rosters are implemented at the EII level so that players have the option to miss games without hurting the team. Most teams have 20 players or less, interested most weekends. At SSP this weekend, only a few teams had full rosters. 8)
