What are the biggest and best rivalries across the state for boys high school hockey?
And what makes them such good rivals?

Going back to the 00-01 season (when Cloquet really became competitive again, and also the year they hired Dave Esse), Cloquet actually leads the series 13-9-2. That includes a 4-2 mark in the playoffs.25 sheet power wrote:I really dont know this but how many games has DE lost to cloquet in the last 10 years or so?

During conference play these are always great games to watch, for some reason though, Centennial hasn't been able to piece together a good section game vs. Blaine the past couple years. I can't wait to see them play this year.minnesotaice wrote:Blaine and Centennial
these games usually tend to get violent... especially during the handshakes following the games

Falls vs Fort is by far the best rivalry there is. The fans HATE each other and the play on the ice is 2x better because the players also hate each other, big hits, and the crowd never stops chanting.
I know fort isnt in minnesota or the country but i just had to throw that out there
Eden Prairie vs Edina is by far the best west metro rivalry. The Holiday tournament game at Breamar is always my favorite game of the year and every game between these two teams is insane. These two teams hate each other no matter what sport it is, and hockey is the epitome of their matchups since it is the only sport where Edina usually even has a chance
EP two out of three.

We never had a kid beat up with a baseball bat but the last 4 years or so there has been fights after everygame and during the game, i remember last year they had to stop the game because there was a huge brawl going on in the crowds with atleast 12 people in itEHSHack wrote:You think I-Falls- Fort kids hate eachother? Cloquet got so mad we beat them 2 years ago a gang of them beat up an East kid with a baseball bat.

Just my two cents, but the biggest rivalry has to be the one you are involved in.
I went to St Thomas Academy. St Thomas Military Academy and Cretin (before they merged with Derham Hall) were competitive schools since the late 1800s. They have remained HUGE rivals of each other, selling out crowds whenever they play any sport. 6 or 7 years ago they played football at St Thomas and outsold the stands capacity by 7 or 8 times. St Thomas got crushed and it was packed the whole time. They play baseball every year at Midway because of the crowd. You have to get there 4 hours early to get a halfway decent seat and maybe even a ticket to their hockey games. The list goes on and on. It is a school rivalry that transfers to hockey and in the recent past has been huge.
All that being said, of course I think it's the biggest rivalry in the state. I'd be willing to bet if I grew up in Mankato, I'd probably think the East/West rivalry was the biggest in the state. Same with Warroad/Roseau, WBL/HM, Public/Private, etc, etc.
Wherever you are is the biggest.
