Nostalgic Awards

Post by Nostalgic Nerd »

A very brief one this year...

Best Saves:

Jo Jo's (DE) glove save high on his side with pads stacked on Hill-Murray.
Connor Girard's (Edina) across-crease glove save high on Michaelson (AV).

Best Hit:

Morin's (Breck) explosive hit on Krause (H'town) that left both on the ice.

Best Goal:

Taft's (Edina) wide angle shot up high over the glove of Gertz (AV).

Best Jerseys:

H'town, Skippers
Hill and Warroad - honorable mention

Best Mascot

"The Mustang" from Breck. (It looks like a horse to me.) I liked how it runs up and down the steps when the team scores.

Best Hairdo:

Two kids. One with a puzzle design, the other with a checkered pattern.

Best Dressed:

Neon Gorillas: I didn't know the MN Zoo was giving away free tickets?
Announcer Mike McGraw's checkered black & red tie.
I can splash in the rink puddles!

Hermantown really, not their dark jersey right? I'm not a fan of those ones. I wish Valley would of had a chance to show off their whites...oh well maybe they can get back and get seeded. Always another year to bring that award home.

I remember one very nice glove save that Krueger had. Can't remember which game though

I agree with everything except:

Best Goal - Dom Toninato backhand snipe against Hill Murray

Best Jersey's - Warroad

Cheesiest Goal - Morin game winner against Hermantown

Hermantown for best dressed? They may have the ugliest uniforms in the entire state. Seriously, the away jerseys are pretty nasty, but the homes are even worse. Who thought the big gray triangle was a good idea?

That backhand by DE over the right shoulder has to take best goal, I guess there were a couple short sided, top shelf backhands during that game.

Charlie Taft's shorthanded snipe on Gretz in the semi-final was absolutely beautiful.

Kruger's save came during the H-M game. I remember seeing Girard's great save versus Apple Valley, and thinking that was the best of the tourney, and then Kruger's was next... Based on the 4OT game, I'd have to give Kruger the best save.

I give the best goal to Ben Marshall in the opening game, in which he took the puck on the other side of the red line, turned up the center of the ice, crossed the blue line, and started angling to the left side, faked a slapshot to freeze the d-man, then exploded around the d-man and snapped a shot short side between the pad and post.

Ben Marshall never scored a goal in the opening game. He did against Hermantown.

Morin's backhand toe drag on the New Ulm's goalie was pretty legit...

New Ulm's only goal against Breck in the opening round was a snipe.

Nothing is better than the white jerseys with "HOUNDS" stitched diagonally down the front of it.

Question, Luch....

Where does that white jersey with "HOUNDS" stitched diagonally down the front of it rank, when it's full of blood from the pelts of Elks, enroute to the state tourney?
