Site Error?
I'm assuming I'm not alone in this as it has happened to me on a handful of computers and in multiple states. There is often an error messages that comes up when trying to access the hockey forums site:
"phpBB : Critical Error
Could not connect to the database"
I'm just curious what this is and if there is anything a person can do to help fix it or if it's a network/website thing?
Thanks

I get this too, and (as far as I know) it's beyond my power to fix. A google search tells me it has to do with the configuration of the site, so it probably requires contacting someone at phpBB.
Feel free to jump in if you know more...I will not pretend to know much about the inner workings of computers and/or the internet.

phpBB is the name of the underlying software that keeps track of all the threads and messages. The error is caused by the server being too busy or too slow to access or provide the messages requested. This is a problem with the hosting company, which is called Northern Webworks - their servers are probably underpowered. And according to their website, www.northernweb.net, looks like they are having problems with their phone lines too.

So far, no critical error messages since Bill made the change. Another improvement is that I am now getting the "View newest post" (the little yellow icon) to clear after viewing the latest unread post. For the last week or more these boxes were not clearing even though I was caught up on a thread.Mitch Hawker wrote:Bill at Northern Webworks made a change that he hopes will help.
We'll keep this topic open so that people can let us know whether they see an improvement or not.

Huh!! Strange that this error message would always appear right as I was ready to post one of my stellar game-score predictions..StillAnEagle wrote:I remember getting this a ton during the whole Kyle Rau staying/going/staying saga.
I find that if I hit the refresh button, more times than not, it will open the page after a few clicks.
Happened before...
The critical error post happened last week for about two days straight. Since then I have not had a single problem.
