AHA-Mpls South..... 0 shots on goal

Post by dbosco » Fri Feb 18, 2005 8:23 pm

According to newspaper the Stars had 12 goals and 28 shots thru 2 periods and 0 goals and 0 shots in the 3rd. I think it's great that they called off the dogs after 2 but can someone who was at the game tell me what the 3rd period looked like? We're they just skating around in circles and not taking any shots????

That is exactly what happened - Trebil has enough class not to run up the score in this situation.

i have seen trebil call off the dogs many times in games like that. to say he has no class is a cheap shot if there ever was, and i say that being someone who has taken his fair share of shots at the AHA coaches over the past couple of years. (just ask zamman and starsalum) if coach trebil wanted to, he could put up 20+ goals a game in almost every conf. game that AHA plays.

Yeah, because its less cocky to score goals than just pass it around the other team.

Score Goals, blow them out...its not classless, its classy. I personally think that passing around them is really cocky, showing that they can't do anything about it no matter how hard they try.

You know, following that pattern of "reasoning", perhaps they could have pulled their goalie for the entire third period and scored another 10-15 goals. That would indicate that they were really exuding class.

Incredible thinking...<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/eyes.gif ALT=":rolleyes">

I will agree that is shows some class to not run up the score. However, this is high school hockey and going up by 10 goals is ludacris. I will say it took a lot to take no shots in the 3rd, but maybe he could have started calling off the dogs a little sooner. The season is over, why make it so hard on the south kids if it doesnt in any way benefit aha?

Its a no win situation. If you run up the score people immediately jump on you for not having any class, but at the same time if you call off the dogs people start saying that you are cocky because you just skate it around the other team. Either way the kids from the losing team are going to feel bad about their season ending but what can you do to fix this problem. there is no way plain and simple. This is something that the mshshl has to find a remedy to.

Is there a possible solution to this problem? There have always been blowouts in every sport and there always will be. It's just a part of the game. There are great teams and there are horrible teams. Unfortunately, for the sake of "fair play" they have to face each other in the section tournaments. I think the blowouts could be reduced somewhat if there was 2nd period running time but there's a problem with that too. My last game we got killed. Outshot 8-1 and dominated from start to finish. Most people asked me how relieved I was when it was all over. Truth is, when the final horn blew, that was a terrible moment for me. That game couldn't have lasted long enough. So that team probably doesn't want anything like that to happen anyway(if they care about hockey as much as I did/do). I think it's fine the way it is. We just need to accept that blowouts will occur and the winning team, no matter how unfair it is, will look likee the bad guy no matter what. Good luck to all in section semis.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... fpack85 at: 2/19/05 2:08 am

passing it around a team playing keep away is not classy. You people are what Joe would call euphoreans, Have any of you been on both sides of an ass whooping? I have and on the losing side of it I would have been humiliated if a team mocked us, if they crushed us at least I knew they didn't toy with us. On the winnning side, it's one thing to ease up, it's quite another to toy with your opponent like playing keep away from your little brother, THAT IS TRULY HUMILIATING. You people are warped!!

It is obvious that none of you were at the game. AHA did not just 'pass' it around to humiliate South. They played a more defensive game to be more prepared for the rest of the playoffs. If they wanted to, AHA could have put another 20 shots and ten goals up on South. South was still playing with high intensity and that showed by the amount of penalties in the third for both sides Oh by the way, Trebil was not real happy with the way some of the players were playing in the third period. He was getting on them big time. He has high expectations, and expects it from them all the time....

you guys should stop complaining if they AHA were to stop then they would get into the mood of just passing and it would be a horrible next game
