Hockey

College D3 hockey is a good way to go, most people dont realize that there is not much of a gap between the top D3 teams/players and the lower D1 ones. They play mostly at the same times as the D1 teams, but i've caught a few games over the past few years, very entertaining.

Im going to have to disagree with the top D3 yeams being almost as good as the lower level D1 teams. St. Thomas I believe is in the top 7 or 8 in the nation and theres really no comparison to a team like theirs and teams like robert morris, yale, air force, wayne state and all other small d1 schools.

Im not saying D3 isnt good hockey because its definitely good stuff and fun to watch, i just dont think its comparable to d1.

D3

Post by MNPuckster27 » Sat Feb 19, 2005 5:53 pm

I havent seen St. Thomas but I do know that they have some very good players on their roster. The last D3 game I saw was over at River Falls arena and their roster was made up of almost all players that played in the USHL. Probably didnt put up great numbers. I know several other D3 teams have good players, but yes, not D1 caliber.

Its times like this I wish MN had a USHL team or even an AHL team. USHL would be a great subsitute, between that and HS Hockey I could definatley live without the NHL.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... kster27 at: 2/19/05 5:57 pm

D3 games are fun to watch, st thomas has a very good lineup with a couple kids from EV that played in the USHL. Also St. Johns is a fun team to watch with jamie langenbrunners brother on the team. They are one of the top D3 schools in the nation

I was also thinking a USHL team in minnesota would do wonderfully here. They would definitely be making a lot of money here during this lockout.

USHL teams draw horribly in Minnesota, that's why they have all left. We had 2 before and after the Wild started up, both were at the bottom in attandance. There are too many other good options for the dollar here, D1, D3, and high schools. Plus the games aren't that great, the league promotes what sels tickets elsewhere; fighting, goon hockey, that kind of stuff. It's a step up from high school in the level of play, but MIAC games have better talent, flow, and NCAA rules are superior to USA hockey's.

Goldy313,
You are dead wrong about the USHL. It is great hockey, so I am not really sure what you are talking about. It just sounds like you are a little bitter towards the league either becuase your, or your kid, got cut or something. And I have followed the league for a long time now, and never does the league promote fighting/goon hockey as you say they do.

We only had a team here for ohhhh, 15 years. They didn't draw a lick. 500 on a great night the last ten years. The Vulcans couldn't put 200 in Augsburg arena. Pick up Junior Hockey News, they make a bigger deal about who leads the league in penalty minutes, he's been on the cover twice in 2 seasons, than about the quality of hockey. Everywhere its had competition it's failed miserably; Madison, Thunder Bay, Rochester, Bloomington, St. Paul, Duluth, Fargo, Austin, even Mason City Iowa drew better for high school games. There's a reason the league is in Nebraska, Indiana, and Illinois. Go to the games, there's better officiating in high school games; watch Sjouke Brown do a game and tell me you don't want to throw up afterwards.

That doesn't mean it's a "bad" league, but you'd be crazy to put a team here. History says the league won't work here.

I never said put a team here. Everyone knows that a team wont work here because there is to much competition. People would rather go to there kids PeeWee game than a USHL game....people in Nebraska dont have that problem. That is why the league does better there. And because one magazine has something on there cover, that means that the leauge and teams are promoting fighting. They can't control was some magazine says. And please post the article in the Junior Hockey News that talks about the kid leading the league in penalty minutes...cause i doubt that is true.

Every team in the WCHA drools over these kids, and want them to come play for there program.....but u r right the league kind of sucks. Get a clue!

Why wouldn't the WCHA drool over a 20-21 year old freshman? Boys don't phsyically mature until then. Where did I say it was a bad league? I said it doesn't work here and I gave reasons why.

Have you ever read the Junior Hockey News? All it is is articles submitted by each team, they have no writers like a Sports Illustarted, or Star Tribune, the articles are submitted by each teams marketing department. Then Junior Hockey News puts them in, so yes it's what the teams want to market. Oh by the way, the editor of Junior Hockey News is also the Director of Media Relations for the USHL. So it is what the USHL wants to say.

To get anything off their website you have to subscribe but that would be stupid. Heck, they give the thing away at every Junior game. So sorry no link, but I tried.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... oldy313 at: 2/19/05 11:53 pm
