Answers to dreamers questions

Post by squirtcoach » Tue Feb 01, 2005 11:05 pm

Dreamer, to answer your questions if you mean "ARE there only 4-5 teams that can beat Moorhead this year I'd say yeah, no more than the top 4 or 5. You'd be surprised how much influence the fans have if they can't watch their kid. As I said before, in public schools at least, the trip gets paid for by the booster club (read: parents). I'm no MHD insider, I live in the suburbs, I just know and am related to people in Moorhead hockey. I've been involved in MN hockey for years, from the bench to in the stands to inside the scorer's box. Your opinion on the number of teams willing to spend a couple thousand to send their team north. I will disagree, but that's my humble opinion. To test your hypothesis, one could invite Monticello (no insult meant, Monticello), to see if they want to get their butts kicked. The truth is only the top teams will be interested to take the financial committtment to see if they have what it takes to beat Moorhead this year. Even the second tier teams would probably pass. So far only one team has had what it takes to beat the Spuds. Hopefully they'll meet again in the Excel.

You're right Kazmo, the only game I referenced in my 'answers to dreamer' post was a 2-0 scored game played at the 'X'. No one was turned away from that game, And it is over, as you so emphatically state. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)">

Lets Look at the Facts

Post by pocketkk » Wed Feb 02, 2005 9:17 am

Here are the facts and lets see what's reasonable.

1. Apparently the Moorhead AD was out of town this week.
2. They have never, as far as i can remember, not let anyone into the game. At 7pm people were still being let in. Somewhere close to 7.30 they began turning people away at the door.
3. They were stamping hands. This means you can leave and re-enter as you have already been counted.
4. There had never ever ever been assigned seating in the sports center for a high school game.

So now first I believe if the Moorhead AD would have been there he may have gave Centennial the tickets. But he wasn't. If you show up at 6.30 you've got tickets... no problem. If you want a good seat show up at 5pm. If somone told you that you couldn't re-enter after being stamped, then you should have questioned someone else because that just isn't true. So what's the beef here. I don't get it. It's not like Moorhead hockey games are going to be sold out at noon the day of the game. If you show up an hour before the game you are gauranteed a ticket.

This is stupid.

That was a very "Minnesota nice" gesture by Centennial last year. Centennial should be very proud of themselves (careful, don't hurt your arm patting yourself on the back), but don't expect this silly "courtesy" everywhere else.

It is a High School hockey game, not a funeral (although may have seemed like one at the end for Centennial fans), no need to reserve the front rows for family (parents). Don't expect any preferential treatment because your a parent.

You pay $7.00 to get in like everyone else. If you leave your seat, it may be taken by someone else, nothing new here. When you pay $50.00 and your ticket has seat number on, you have a complaint (good luck trying to leave the building and return in that venue too).

Get to the game at a reasonable time. If desired, eat at an establishment before or after game. If you get hungry during the game, snack at the concession (have your neighbor save your seat while you are gone). Enjoy the intense competition by our future leaders (kids). Drive back to the cities and think about how you can be a better parent/fan. No need to complain about the "courtesy" not received in Mooorhead after your team losses.

All this will be covered in depth in the new book, "Hockey Parenting for Dummies".

I will look forward to the new book. I am glad someone is finally going to publish it.

The title of this thread contains the words "common courtesy".

We all have our own experinces that give us information and some times mislead us but is the practice of saving tickets for the visiting team common? I have been going to high school hockey games for 40 years and I have never heard of it.

Is it a good idea? Maybe. But do you then have to save some number of tickets for the home team?

Were the parents , siblings, grandparents, uncles ,aunts and neighbors of all of da Spuds guaranteed seating? Or did they have to get there early just like every one else ?(except for slappy, of course.)

How would the the rink guy explain it if he saved 200 tickets for the Centennial folks and turned away a couple of Spud players grandmas....or, even worse, bluesbuddy?

The fact that Centennial did it is fine but it doesnt set a standard nor does it make the practice common. Which I think you should establish before you can level criticism.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... ckerboy at: 2/2/05 2:42 pm

I believe the MSHSL is assembling a task force immediately to address this issue, can't wait until regularly scheduled monthly meeting.

p.s. On a more serious note, I thought I heard on the news tonight that Centennial's arena is closed. Sounded like refrigeration system may not be working and the ice was melting. Slappy, thats some good old fashioned Red River Valley Potato courtesy. Ya, the tie, everybody WINS! Still need to save their seats as "Common Courtesy". Remember, they paid probably $7.00 for that ticket.

p.s. Kids are like fine wine, take care of them and they get better with age. They were not letting season ticket holders in either which is even more of a joke if you buy a pass they say you should be able to get into every event and I know like 50 people who had passes that didn't get in.so quit your ******** and go early.IF you dont get in just go up the stairs before you buy tickets and go through there I didn't tell you that..!!!!
