I have it on good authority that this all started when a Centennail ticket buyer noticed that some fans were running late and wanted to buy 40 tickets for them before they arrived. When they were told they might no get in because its not if you have a ticket its if you actually gained entrance to the game(past the ticket takers). So the person said or yelled some obscenities and entered the game with out his 40 tickets. I said it for the Warroad game and they obviously listened by arriving for the Girls and JV games. Arrive early if you want to get in, its the same thing you do on opening Friday night movie? Get there late and accept that you get front row seats or attend another movie all together. Wait til the section quarterfinals or semi finals that most likely will be in Moorhead and see all of the Moorhead season pass holders arrive and have to wait in line like everybody else and buy a playoff ticket. The line usually is 200 plus long and goes right out the door, and this goes on for about an hour before the game. Plus there is no JV game in the playoffs to watch so its a social hour for everyone to get their seat and then walk around and talk before the game. Jefferson fans arrive early either buy concession food or bring in your food, its what my family and friends have been doing for many years at the Sports Center.
Thats Mr. Potatohead to You!

It sounds like what is purchased at the rink is not a ticket, which would allow you to attend that particular venue regardless of what time you wanted to arrive, but what is being purchased is a "maybe slip". Maybe you get in and maybe you don't. Please explain to me why anyone would purchase a "season ticket" or "season pass" if it did not guarantee them entry. I might have to call my gopher, wild and twins reps.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... gar2004 at: 2/1/05 8:06 am

Stay home! it's a long way to drive for an ass whooping anyhow! I originally empathized with you but if your attitude is any indication of the general mood of the Centennial fans that came up, your lucky we didn't have a "No Cake Eaters Allowed" sign posted.

Seating for visiting parents

Post by squirtcoach » Tue Feb 01, 2005 8:13 am

What is being forgotten is that the hockey booster clubs pay for the teams to travel. And it is the parents who are the ones who fund the booster clubs. If Centennial forgoes the Moorhead trip and schedules Jefferson, AHA, or EP next year because it of costs and because they can't watch their kid play anyway, who loses? (Hint: not Centennial) Moorhead can replace Centennial on the non-conference schedule with the likes of West Fargo/Shanley or Wahpeton, I suppose. If Spuds fans want to continue to see the better teams from the cities come to play up in Moorhead, they should make sure there are seats for the families. Otherwise, they will have to spend most of their weekends making trips to the Cities to play the top talent. The home town fans will be limited to the 10-0 games against the rest of Section 7AA. Moorhead Adminstration should insure that tickets for families are sent to the visiting school if they expect a sellout. To me, it is a no-brainer for anyone who loves Spuds Hockey.

I don't believe that Moorhead would have any trouble finding an opponent to fill in for Centennial. Good teams like good competition. Year after year, you won't find much better than Moorhead. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/pimp.gif ALT=":hat">

Moorhead should just rip down that old tiny crappy rink they play in now, fire everyone who works there, and who works at the school, cut everyone from the hockey team and bring up the bantams, build a new rink BIGGER than the excel, so there is no chance people wont get seats, expecially those who drive 3 or 4 hours from the cities who are absolutely starving to death and cannot seem to find anything to eat in a hockey rink that size with such a crappy policy on selling tickets. Duh, why didnt anyone else think of this?

Moorhead Season Passes

Post by pocketkk » Tue Feb 01, 2005 8:58 am

The season passes in Moorhead are for all sports. So if you buy one you get admission to all sports. There are 2 advantages for the purchaser. One you don't have to wait in line to get your ticket. Typically the football games have a 10 minute wait and hockey could have up to a half hour wait for tickets depending on the line situation. The second is that if you attend about 15 sporting events throughout the season your pass is paid for. So the die hard spud fans save money when you add up the football, basketball, hockey, baseball and any other events attended throughout the year. It isn't just a hockey season pass. The season pass gives you no special treatment on being let into a sold out game.

Moorhead seating

Post by squirtcoach » Tue Feb 01, 2005 9:06 am

Sorry, I'm not from Centennial., But I do have family in the Moorhead Youth A program.... But you have it right: Top teams want to play good talent. Moorhead has the longest drive of anyone to find that talent. I am sure most Moorhead fans understand that, but apparently certain ones are cartographically challenged. For your parents sake, (I do know several of them) I hope the next year when they come down to Centennial, they don't have to get there before 5 pm the night before, because that's when the Cougars sell out for the 'big' games, except for the seats they reserve for parents of visitors.

Maybe they won't go there next year, why drive..........How far is that big ol' city away again? (I'm cartographically challenged) Far enough I know the horses git tired! Anyhoo long way to go for a 4-goal ass whoopin'

What is amazing is that we are still arguing over a misunderstanding. In the 30 years that the Sports Center has been in existence, I cannot ever remember fans being turned away from a game until Saturday. And, I have yet to see anyone come forward and say they were denied entry to that game.

Next year I am going to be the first in line at Centennial, buy all 1000 tickets and then toss them all in the trash except one. No lines at the concession stand, no annoying students from the other team, and no guy at the next urinal trying to compare johnsons. In between periods, I will go out and give a synopsis to the assembled parents. Maybe I'll even raffle a ticket off for tsunami relief and let one other person in.

And, if that volunteer ticket taker refuses to honor my request for 1000 tickets and says I can only buy four at a time, he/she will find that hell hath no fury like a scorned hockey fan.

Your booster club pays for all the travel ... fine. Moorhead plays 20 games against teams from over 100 miles away. Don't preach about inconvenience and expense. Their booster club raises its money through selling concessions, they don't appreciate you coming to the arena to get a ticket, then bolting for the nearest Hardees and your beloved Angus burger.

On second thought, after I buy all the tickets, I am going out to the car to get a shopping bag full of food to bring into the arena so that I don't have to support anyone else's cause.

Moorhead won't replace Centennial with West Fargo or Wahpeton. They will find a quality opponent somewhere -- maybe they will even play Warroad twice (which is as far away from Moorhead as the Twin Cities, only there is no freeway to ease the journey). To act like you are doing Moorhead a favor by playing them is arrogant and naive. Maybe you could replace them with Rogers, Andover, or St Francis -- oops, never mind, you already play them.

Back to the original post.

Quote:
Centennial saved Moorhead parents and fans 200 tickets last year for the game at Centennial arena, so they would be sure to get into the arena after driving four hours. Centennial's athletic director called up to Moorhead on Friday, to see if they would save us 100 tickets so the parents and some fans would be sure to get a seat to the game. Their answer was, "No, we don't save tickets for anyone.

That' the topic at hand, not which team is better, who travels farther or what you stinkin eat. As somebody already posted, it seems the athletic director from Moorhead was gone for the week. Perhaps he would have tried to reserve a few tickets as "Common Courtesy" for the Centennial fans.

And, as has been stated several times, Moorhead has no mechanism in place to accommodate such a request. Not everything in life requires a quid pro quo.

I went to the Centennial/Moorhead game last year. I got there during the J.V. game and had no problems getting in. Also, we stayed there the ENTIRE time and ATE AT THE GAME, which helped support the Centennial school. I would expect the same in return from the Centennial fans. Just get there early, buy your ticket, buy some food, sit down and watch the hockey! How hard is that to do?!!

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... pudsGuy at: 2/1/05 9:50 am

Centennial fans, great gesture last year, but their is no reason to expect the same from Moorhead. It's like giving a gift. Does another have to be returned by the receiver? Is it a gift or a trade? Do good things because you want to, not to get back something in return.

can i get a beer please?????

Post by nollafo » Tue Feb 01, 2005 10:19 am

it's pretty simple. why did visiting parents want to leave the arena? because they arrived 3 hours before the start of the game. why is that? because they were told they better or they may not get a ticket. why couldn't they be assured a ticket? because apparently things don't operate that way in tatorville. so the thinking was go to an establishment that could serve them a libation is my guess. not so that they can avoid supporting the booster club. can you get a beer in the arena? no. so that's it. plain and simple. this has been over blown and i think i like it. fun to read all the b.s. even our boy lee chirped in and implied something seems flawed.

CSG,

Really? I went to buy tickets for a 'big game' last year and they were sold out the day before. We didn't know parents of visiting players could walk up just before the game, so I got to see them anyway. My 2 cents (that's about what it's worth) ...

First of all, I can't imagine Don Hulbert (Moorhead Athletic Director) not granting or at least making an attempt to make 200 tickets available to a Centennial constituency, especially in light of their gesture last season ... if it were in his power to do so. I'm not sure if it was his call anyway.

But I'm sure there were other logistics to consider.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the city of Moorhead runs the Sports Center, not high school administration ... but I'm thinking there could have been some middle ground that could have been established in this situation.

Arguments on both sides of this issue are interesting, and it sounds like an approach using diplomatic tactics and good public relation skills to ensure future scheduling between the two teams involved ... could have been employed.

Given the different circumstances revolving around each of the said venues and the amount of interest generated from each community ... I offer this solution:

Guarantee Centennial 200 tickets as long as they are picked up by 5:30 (two hours before game time). If they are not picked up by that time, then the tickets will be eligible to the general public again.

Seats can be saved by friends/family with coats, purses, jackets, blankets or whatever while temporarily leaving the facility. I've seen it done over and over at the Sports Center.

Or ... mail those special Centennial tickets to Circle Pines and explain that those passes will get them to bypass those waiting in line to purchase tickets, but will not gaurantee 'blocks of seats together'. Since those tickets are 'pre-paid' that could be an advantage (bypassing long lines) afforded to them, but they would be fore-warned that there is no gaurantee of entry if they get to the game too late, because this is the choice the fire-marshall gave ... and Moorhead has to adhere to that advice.

It never hurts to sell pre-paid tickets, as everyone knows there is always a small percentage of those tickets that get unused or lost in the process.

Maybe sounds a bit too involved ... but at least it should help thwart future threads such as this.

Another solution would be to make damn-sure you get to the game early, get a seat and watch an 'equally entertaining' junior varsity game to kill the time.

Still another solution could be to chose not to fight the crowd, go to a local watering hole and cry yourself to sleep in the suds, then buy a game tape from yours truly.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /laugh.gif ALT=":lol">

<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/pimp.gif ALT=":hat"> - "But hey .... this is what makes the site fun!"

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... eoscout at: 2/1/05 10:56 am
