Bordson/Sislo

Post by 7AAFAN » Thu Feb 10, 2005 9:59 am

I believe Bordson may be replacing Mike Sislo of Superior. From what I understand, Sislo, who is a junior, was originally selected but i think in Wisconsin if you play in an All-Star game you give up eligibilty in all sports, and I believe Sislo is a pretty decent multi-sport athlete.

Thanks for the clarification on the teams and who chooses them. Your post has by far been the most intelligent one on this stupid thread. To please everybody maybe they should have a CCM All-Star A,B,B2,C teams so everyone's so called "All-Star Player" gets in on it. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /laugh.gif ALT=":lol">

CCM All-Star Hockey Game

Post by Kernz and Kompany » Thu Feb 10, 2005 1:53 pm

Thanks to my friend Chris Long (KDLH) for introducing me to the boards! I thought I would jump on here to clarify a few points so everyone knows how the CCM All-Star Teams are picked and also to clear up some misconceptions.

TEAM SELECTION
1. Coaches nominate players from their team irregardless of age/grade who they feel should be considered for voting to participate in the CCM All-Star Game.

2. We then put all the names on a master list and send back-out to ALL coaches, and select media members to rank players.

3. The coaches then rank all the players in order by position. The top 17 players make their respective teams (9 forwards, 6 defensemen, and 2 goalies).

4. Captains are assigned based on the number of points each player received in the voting. If Player A had 80 out of 85 votes and was the highest vote getter he would be CAPTAIN again irregardless of age/grade.

TEAMS
1. Superior Senior HS was added in 2000 to the event due them being a part of the Lake Superior Conference. But we realized that this gave Duluth an unfair advantage as they were now able to choose from more teams than the Iron Range. After much discussion with coaches and media, we then added 1 team from the Mariucci Conference each year.

2. Since SSHS is traditionally a power-house in Wisconsin and is always in the top 3 in the LSC, we then agreed to add the team who had the best record in the Mariucci to offset SSHS.

I hope this helps many of you to understand how the teams are picked, and why things are as they are. We are hopeful in the future that the Iron Range will add a program thus allowing us to remove the Mariucci Conference team from the CCM High School All-Star Hockey Game.

If any of you have any interest in the event why not log onto the OFFICIAL CCM High School All-Star Game Website! You can visit www.kernz.com and click on the CCM High School All-Star Game link.

Regards,
Ryan Kern
President
Kernz & Kompany

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... pany>Kernz and Kompany at: 2/10/05 1:56 pm

It should be a senior only showcase for seniors to get a chance to be looked at by scouts. Obviously the game has changed from Duluth vs. Range to the Duluth Extended Area vs. Northern MN(minus Duluth Extended area teams) which appears to be for financial reasons. Pretty soon it will be adding Twin Cities players. I'm not sure I totally believe how you say the team is picked, and if it is, there are flaws in your system. There are some very talented players that should be playing in it but for some reason did not and less talented are on the team. Hopefully players that deserve to be noticed and to continue playing hockey, will have a chance by other means.

Coaches Voting

Post by 7AAFAN » Thu Feb 10, 2005 3:34 pm

Can you shed some light on the percentage of coaches that return their ballots to you? It would appear with the large number of players from a few of the teams that it would be easy for the team makeup to be skewed by the lack of interest on the part of the majority of the coaches. In other words, if you only have a handful of coaches returning their ballots, isn't it likely that the team would be less representative of the entire region? I would like to add that I firmly believe that it should be a showcase of departing seniors as well. I can't believe if picked objectively, that you couldn't fill a roster with more than adequate seniors....maybe not the 17 best players in each teams area...but certainly 17 kids who for the most part would be deserving of playing. Of course, then the moniker of an All-Star game vs. a recognition event becomes arguable.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... >7AAFAN at: 2/10/05 3:38 pm

You cannot spazz about who is one the team if the coaches don't participate...how else are the kids going to get there? I also don't think it should be a "seniors only" game because come the end of the year they have plenty of games to participate in. "All-Star" games should be for "All-Stars"...otherwise call it the "Seniors Only" game and lets face it...some seniors suck.

Hey Puck,
I know Juniors were allowed in a few ywars ago but why Marvin from Warroad - I believe he is a Sophomore. If he is it is a ridiculous choice. My feelings are only Seniors should play and also Warroad should not be included. Superior is fine with me they play in the LSC. Good Luck to all Players.

yes, marvin is a sophomore, absolutely ridiculous is right. i haven't seen him play, so he may be good enough for the team, but it isn't right to have sophomores on the team. this whole game has lost some of its luster if you ask me. i remember as a kid going to the maroon and gold game every year and watching the best players in the area. this game should be for juniors and seniors, preferably seniors alone, but there just isn't enough kids around for that to be possible and to have a well played hockey game at the same time. it should be duluth against iron range, no superior or warroad. but thats just my opinion. im sure it will be an entertaining game again this year, i would just like to see all local minnesota kids play and get one more chance before their careers are over.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... ck4ever at: 2/22/05 1:25 pm

Bighair,
You really are a know it all about Hockey. Some of your Posts really blow me away. Insulting the Seniors like you have in this Posting really shows your class. You don't seem to realize Hockey is a Team Game and if some Senior has worked hard for 2 or 3 years with his team he deserves to have a little spotlight at the end of the year and the CCM Game would be one way. From now on keep your posts to yourself it would be better for all of us.

You whiners on Da Range sure are lucky to get to watch a couple more quality high school hockey games just because you have some doers and not just talkers that are willing to spend some money and if they do a good job make some money. All while giving more oppurtunity to kids to play hockey and true fans to watch it. Good for all of you!

Baker & Saeland

Post by wild77 » Tue Feb 22, 2005 12:33 pm

Baker has played forward all year. No defense except maybe once or twice on the power play. Saeland has been All defense, no forward at all. I suspect that's a misprint.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... >wild77 at: 2/22/05 1:49 pm

Clearly you have misunderstood me! I think both Juniors and Seniors should have a chance to play in the CCM all-star game....And I also believe that if you have EARNED your spot, you have EARNED your spot. You should not make the team just because you are a senior when there are juniors that are better than you. It is an ALL-STAR GAME!!!! A

And for your information I have plenty of experience under my belt...I am not a know it all about everything, but hockey....that I know alot about.

the purpose of this game, when first established, was to give seniors another chance to get noticed by some junior teams or maybe d-3 colleges. since then, it has turned into an event to showcase the best talent in the area regardless of age. has it made it more entertaining? yes. has it fulfilled it's beginning objective? not likely. sure there are sophomores who are better than seniors, hell there are freshman (nico sachetti/virginia) better than seniors on this team. we all know that seniors deserve to play in this game more than younger kids, but it comes down to who will draw the best crowds and make it most entertaining for the fans. in my opinion, it should be focused on the senior class, with some juniors (since the number of high quality seniors isn't what it used to be up here), but no one under 11th grade should even be considered to take part in this game. congratulations to all those players who made the team, good luck to all of you in the skills competitions and games, and best of luck to all of you who are going to play after high school.

BigHair,
Looking at the Roster I really do not see many "All Stars". Maybe Niskanen and Oshie, they are the only 2 committed to Division I Hockey. If you are happy with Juniors and Seniors playing all I say is that Junior better be extremely better then the Senior is who was left out. Your Statement about you knowing a lot about Hockey??????????????????????????????

You don't have to commit to a D1 school to be an all-star...clearly you have been drinking the water in the big lake. Most kids play Juniors first.
