I'm sure that ghshockeyfan can explain it much better, but Roseau's victory over a high-ranked Tonka team trumped EP's victory over a very low-ranked Hill-Murray team. As H_M goes through the season, their ranking will improve, which will make EP's victory more valuable. The rankings being KRACH, not LPH or QRF or "common knowledge". KRACH eventually catches up and I feel does a very good job with adequate data, but you're right that the small sample size causes some issues early on. I hope your daughter relishes the nice EP victory (and likely ascension to #1 in LPH). And I hope your loves are in that order. But yes, a fun intersection for the math-lovers! :D

The drop most likely has to do with EP opponents not having a good Tuesday. Centennial lost, and Eastview and Farmington played each other to a tie. Whereas Roseau's previous opponents, International Falls and River Lakes, were both victorious Tuesday night. Lots of big swings in SOS until everyone has more games under their belt.

I expect a split on the next LPH rankings. The EP/HM game was very close and exposed weaknesses in both teams that need some work. BSM should get no first place votes this time around, but I wouldn't be shocked if Edina got a few.

It was nice to see Eden Prairie slay the Hill Murray bugaboo. If they meet again (I know where I want that to happen) I expect mutual respect and some resentment from both sides, but no fear. Too bad they don't play each other more often as EP/HM could be a great rivalry.

The EP game against Blake on Thursday will be interesting.

You guys nailed it from a KRACH perspective as far as the math and other considerations (how other earlier opponents did and the associated impact, SOS, sample size, etc.). I hope to see KRACH sort itself out a bit better after the first of the month - but I'm guessing mid-Dec before it becomes pretty solid.

I thought you were waiting until there is more data before posting the poll? Computer poll meaningless until at least half the games are played. Ex. Hill Murray 40th.

Everyone understands that. I think it's interesting to watch the change as the sample size increases.

Hill slipped again after the game vs LV N. Don't worry too much about the rankings, they'll get better with more games. I posted these so people can see how they evolve/develop and hopefully create understanding/learning opportunities as to how they work (and the shortcomings - like too little data, etc.)

I expect Hill to be near, if not at, the very top come season's end - if not earlier. They have only played the two games whereas some teams have as many as seven games in already. Additonally, HM SOS is always near the top - and they've started the season with two quality opponents.

Or a hot goalie, or an off day, or a bad break, or..... It wasn't long ago that an EP girls team won 57 games straight and lost in the sections. More parity now, more competition, and it is really early to be predicting anything.

Just a few weeks ago, everyone was handing the title to H-M, now we're handing it to EP. I do think that both will be there at the end, although, EP will still need to get by Edina. But this does seem to be the culmination of "that strong EP U12 team" that we've been talking about for years. I suppose that would be a dream state title matchup for many, but we were never able to get the Tonka-BSM matchup (at the state championship, that is) that everyone wanted due to sectional alignment issues. This could be the year people get their wish.

I recall going to the HM game a few weeks ago, HM's first game and EP's fourth. HM rolled 12 forwards and 8 D and lost by 1. EP is the real deal but let's take a deep breath. If you are not "great" in one very specific area of the game you are beatable on any night.

Unfortunately we are probably going to have to wait til later in the year to get a barometer with most teams top players in the EP tournament and the start of Lake conference play will be at the World Championships.

No mistake though...their tough!!

Never to early to stir the pot with the Lake Conference rhetoric. Did the State Champs last season come from the Lake?

No they did not come from the Lake...but BSM had a very good team last year and deserved the title. Congrats to BSM on their title even though they are not from the Lake.

Didn't notice their championship trophy being displayed at the school, must have been out getting it polished on the East side of the metro.
