There are champions in every spot and then there are the champions of champions.

After 11 days, the fans have spoken and the winner of the next installment in USA TODAY High School Sports’ “Best Of” contest for Best 2014-15 Team was the Hill-Murray girls hockey team from Minnesota.

Hill-Murray amassed 50,078 votes to take home the $1,000 prize for the athletic department budget. Second place and $500 went to Air Academy boys soccer in Colorado with 37,452 votes and third place and $250 went to Immaculate Heart Academy girls soccer in New Jersey. Parkview baseball team from Georgia was fourth with 4,390 votes.

The teams were selected by winning the Super 25 national championship in their respective sport from USA TODAY High School Sports or being named champion by a national organization focused on that particular sport.

Hill-Murray has a student body of 725.

“The whole community got involved. It was fun,” said Hill-Murray girls hockey coach Bill Schafhauser, who was named the American Family Insurance ALL-USA Girls Hockey Coach of the Year. “Our kids are super-competitive. They spend a lot of time team building and getting together with family and getting everybody involved. We also publicized it with our alunmi base and parent base with Twitter and Facebook.”

The Pioneers repeated as Minnesota state 2A champions with a 2-1 victory over top-seeded Minnetonka. The team finished with a 25-5 mark in making its third consecutive state final.

“They did a great job of keeping everything in perspective,” Schafhauser said. “It was a new experience to come off a championship season and expectations were high. It was the classic thing of everybody wants to beat the champion and our team managed that pretty well. Once we got to playoff time, everyone was in the right frame of mind.”

Unless you're a fantastic skater with a wicked set of hands, then you get in for free.
