Season begins just one month from today! :D Game schedule for opening day, including an intriguing matchup between Edina & Andover:

Any predictions on which teams will be dominant, i.e. Top 5 in their class? Greatly improved over last season?

1. Hornet
* Defending heavyweight champion. Lost some big guns but have some help on the way via Idaho and u15. One could argue that the 2 best new HS players in Minnesota will play for Edina this year. (First 2 games of the season vs Andover and Blake could be great games or just confirm to many that Edina is far and away the deepest and best HS team in the state of hockey)

2. Bears
* Lost 2 games last year, both to Edina. Returning their leading scorer and 3 of the top Jr forwards in the state and the HEAVY favorite to win Ms Hockey. A big ? at goalie. (Edina/WBL/Wayzata the 2nd week of the season should be interesting)

3. Huskies
* YOUNG. GUNS. Lost a goalie and top scorer but lots more firepower finally old enough to play in Anoka County. (Game #1 vs Edina and game #25 vs Blake)

4. Pioneers
* Supposedly lost their top goalie to Gentry but return have a bunch of solid returners and should make another appearance at Xcel.

5/6. Troj-ippers
* 4 kids at the top 66 Camp this summer in Maine (the most of any team). Can the 3 very high end D put up a bunch of points and hold it down in the D zone?
* Not tons of individual accolades other than Wisnewski (yet) in Trojan-land but a way better than average and pretty deep team with solid goaltending. It will be a battle for 2nd place in the Lake between these two. I think the edge goes to the Trojans.

Best of the rest in no particular order:

Eagan
Brainerd
White Bear Lake
FLAKE (despite losing their goalie to boys...if she plays girls they could be somewhat of a challenge to Andover in sections)

Mustang v Warrior in final for the Class A Title at Xcel in February and Breck gets 2nd state title. I believe that the Mustang could be a top 5 team in all the land by years end. Warroad has a nice nucleus of players coming back and have heard they picked up another piece that should put the puck in the net a lot this winter.

*****MN Girls HS hockey season games are 4 weeks away from tonight! Two big games that night...NWC v St Cloud and EDINA v ANDOVER!!!

Great summary, massalsa - =D>
We'll have to compare notes with LPH when the first of their weekly rankings come out.

Correction to massalsa- Andover did not lose a goalie, same one that has been there the last four years.

Thanks MNHF...LPH probably gets some of their info here...this place is generally a much better pulse of what is happening...at least on the Girls side of things.

Sorry if i was mistaken. I thought they graduated Butorac and a goalie. Apparently I was wrong!

Yolo and others: I am interested in hearing about the incoming freshman and new sophomores from Andover that those in the know expect to be impact players this year and beyond.

I don't know much about Andover but I do follow the Gopher women's program pretty closely and know that two of their players have committed:
Peyton Hemp (2021) and Maddie Kaiser (2022).

Hmmm, weird, normally you would see a few comments posted on observations people had on the teams after viewing the preseason scrimmages.

Props to youthhockeyhub.com on their coverage of the Girls game. I just looked at mngirlshockeyhub and saw nothing new since the "schedules posted" article 10/13. Maybe they will post something in the next day or two. Also tried letsplayhockey.com and it was empty since last season. However...

YHH has posted 3 articles since November 1. Have a read and give their website some traffic. Thanks YHH (btw I have ZERO connection with the site or anyone there). Articles on Andover (11/1), Blake (11/2), and Centennial (11/5) and all with some depth to them looking back at last year and forward to this season. Nice job!

Agree, they've always done "a little" on girls hockey, but it seems that they might be dialing it up a notch or two, which is nice to see and appreciated.

Upset in the making? Andover scores three goals in less than two minutes in the 3rd period to take a 4-2 lead on the Hornets.

And it's a final, 4-3 Andover. Shots were 40-25 Edina. With each team being called for 7 minors - 28 minutes combined - it must have been a very physical game.

These two teams will be battling for top spots in the state for the next couple years. The talent on these tow are top notch and very exciting to watch. Edina having a player that helped Andover win state at the 12U level a couple years ago, over Edina, has to be a little tough. Also, the Phenom from Idaho/Bishop Kearney Selects adds to the power. Tough battle and plenty of physical play. Even with the two transplants, the Huskies overcame. Good or not, how is that Idaho girl even eligible? I would find it hard to believe that Meridian Idaho is in the Edina School district.

On a side note, are we moving one step closer to Tier 1/AAU elite teams with all the transferring that is happening? I would hate to see the State Of Hockey move to that programming.

Are we sure that the parents of each of the two "transplants" didn't move into the Edina school district? Not 100% positive, but unless they are 9th graders I believe this would be a requirement.

Neither are 9th graders. One may pass the requirements, but the other I doubt. Not starting a witch hunt, because it happens. More so interested in the possible affect it will have on association/HS hockey. The transplants seem to happen more frequently lately with a few getting "caught" this year and last.

Tough start for Minnetonka. When is the last time they opened the season going 0-3?
