Edina never has many..but East Ridge is a large school and I would have expected a larger contigent..

$19/ adult plus parking doesn't help, $12/ student either
Still wish they could hold it in a smaller venue just for the atmosphere. 4,000 fans in the X still feels dead.

Crimson and Skippers tied at 1-1 after one. By far the most entertaining game of the tourney so far. Although Tonka had the edge in play, the Crimson are competitive and are playing good D, while remaining dangerous on the break. Very well played period by both teams.

Fun game to watch for this neutral fan. Tonka wins 7-4 with an empty netter at the end. The Crimson had a two man advantage with their goalie pulled at the end, when it was 6-4, and came very close several times to pull within one. But they panicked a little at the end, and a turnover gave Tonka the puck which turned into the empty netter.

Also, this is the first outcome of the tourney, both classes, that was technically an upset (#5 seed beating the #4 seed).

Fun fact: The total difference in goals in the Class AA quarterfinal round was 20. In Class A it was just 9!

The horse died a lot time ago, but ..... I think the MSHSL is doing itself a disservice with the current format. The teams from weaker sections (1AA, 3AA, and 4AA) got steamrolled. No doubt these games would have been more competitive had Blake, Wayzata, Forest Lake, Roseau, North Wright County etc. been at the X and made their way to State through an open bracket tournament.

I realize Day 2 of the AA tourney looks more evenly matched, but geez. Farmington has three D1 commits and tallied 8 SOG. White Bear has four and they had four SOG in the first 34 minutes. It's not a good advertisement for the game to see three blowouts (and two in running time) in four quarterfinal games.

I would suspect free streaming is playing a part in driving down attendance, along with a $19 ticket price independent of merchandise / concessions. I for one stayed home last night instead of making the jaunt to St. Paul.

Some interesting perspective on today's Proctor/Hermantown - Warroad game.

We watched streaming from home only because Tonka was playing and our daughter had played there but we would never had considered attending in person. Attendance at the girl's event has always been light as mostly friends & family and general school association people and this year looks even lighter as pointed out and probably as much due to the bys playing same night and the weather/snow as anything.

Watching the Farmington v WBL game for the last 10 minutes. Wow. The penalty box is a very popular place in this 1-1 game in the 2nd. I have seen maybe 5 penalties in 10 minutes?

I like that it is streamed...

Mound Westonka has not seen anyone like Breck yet this year. Yikes.

It was 2-0 when i typed that. I expect Warroad to do the same to Proctor and should be a good A final tomorrow.

Do they go to running time halfway through the first period? I don't recall seeing that before.

Was thinking the same. Weak schedule did not prepare them for a team like Breck.

Breck to 6AA? That section needs another good team to make it more competitive.

No incentive for Breck to move up to AA when they'd be thrown into a section with Edina, Blake and Wayzata. Get rid of sections and seed everybody and I bet they might be interested.

What a great game so far with Warroad v P-Hermantown. The best game of the tourney I have watched so far. Should be a great 3rd period.

Kiss of death with that comment above /\ /\ . All WARROAD after the first couple minutes of the 3rd period. Has the makings of a good rematch from last years championship and Breck's earlier loss to the Warriors this season.

After giving the Warriors all they wanted, and then some, in the first two periods it looked like P/H ran out of gas in the 3rd. They didn't have the same energy that they displayed earlier, when they had several excellent opportunities to expand on their lead, but narrowly missed.

Should be a great final tomorrow. There is no doubt that the best two teams in Class A will be playing for the championship.
