New Topic!!! Herb Brooks Tourney Surprises

Post by jg2112 » Mon Dec 30, 2019 9:35 pm

Hey lets talk about this!!! Today's results at the Herb -

Centennial 4 - SPU 1
Rogers 5 - Blake 3 (!!!!!)
Andover 5 - Holy Family 1
Proctor / Hermantown 5 - Hill-Murray 1 (!!!!)

This is a really strange quirk, but all four teams in the losers' bracket are big-time private schools.

It appears Andover is going to win this tourney without much trouble, even without the oldest Hemp sister.

FWIW Blake is without their best player too.

I respectfully disagree. Delianedis scored tonight : ).

I mean that not to talk poorly of who isn't there. She along with Lily and Burton are 3 wonderful players. I just think #7 is the best of the 3.

Blake is too talented to lose that game - even without Wethington... really perplexing for that team.

The surprises continue. The Hub indicates Holy Family beat Blake 5-1 today.

Some very good teams and entertaining games. I was a bit surprised with where Blake finished.

It sure looks like it will be Andover and Edina as the two teams that separate themselves from the pack in AA hockey this year. The Skippers probably get to the semi-finals of the state tourney and lose for the third time to the Hornets.
Hard to believe Blake was playing in the 7TH PLACE game of the Herb Brooks tourney. When was the last time that happened? One player missing to the WW18 should not have affected their performance to that degree. Is their back end and goaltending letting them down that badly?

Also, maybe it's time to give Holy Family some love. They've won 10 of their last 11 with the only loss being on Monday to Andover. They just finished off Blake and Hill Murray in the Brooks tourney by a combined score of 7-1. Section 2 might get interesting yet.

I was at the super rink for several games this week. Both Holy Family and Rogers out played Blake and took full advantage of a bunch of scenarios. Both teams played with confidence and poise vs the Bears. Congrats to both on great wins for their programs.

I checked the hub and Blake had not lost a Holiday tourney game since 12/31/2013 against South St Paul. That included annual wins vs many of the powerhouse Hill Murray teams (they played in Kaposia tourney until last season) and many other great teams over that 7+ year span.

Body - Much love to be given to Holy Family for wins vs Blake and Hill. Sneak a peak at the records of the 11 other wins by Holy Family. Not remarkable at all...HF is a solid team with great games/wins in their last 2 games. Their key imo is continued great goaltending. 1 goal given up in 36 shots vs Blake is remarkable. Countless blocked shots in that game by their skaters was big too. It was a great team win and I hope that they can be a factor in Section 2.
