What we learned after week 2?

Post by moosepaw » Sun Nov 28, 2021 12:55 pm

Mound Westonka and Orono will be a great game!

Warroad can play with anybody AA or A!

Elk River is showing resilience!

Rogers playing Edina to a 3-2 loss?

Biggest game of the week: you guessed my HF Fire vs Edina, calling a 3-1 win!

I agree that M/W vs Orono would be a great match up but I see they don't play in the regular season...added suspense for a section final match up.

Just how good Warroad will be a little more clear after this weekend as they face Andover and SSP on the road.

BSM vs Stillwater should be a really good game.

Can HF beat Edina and then will Edina have enough left in the tank to beat HM? I like both H's for 2 cake eater upsets.

Brainard will be a good test for River Lakes.

Rogers took the cake eaters to OT... what will they do against Andover??

Wayzata at Centennial/SLP tonight. Wayzata has established their credentials already this season, the Cougars can do the same tonight with a strong performance. Both teams quietly playing really good hockey.

Rogers is interesting, saw them play opening night and their first group was really good. Didn't think they would have the depth to hang with a team like Edina that rolls 3 tough lines. Andover will bring the same depth at them.

Rosemount and Lakeville South Thursday night - if the Irish win that one, they jump into the top spot in Section 3 (if they're not there already)

What I really want to know is what the heck is going on with Chisago Lakes? I watched parts of the game vs Orono and it was as one-sided as the score indicates.

The easy answer is to look at the goaltending statistics. The goalies are giving up a goal every 5 shots.

Edina big over Holy Family Catholic. Don't know if the score was indicative of the game play.
Be kind. Rewind.

Well I know what I've learned...Holy Family is once again beating the drum as loud as they can. Just like last year and the year prior. They still can't beat a top 10 AA team. Blaine is a for-sure sleeper. Centennial is back again and looking strong.

Edina largely controlled play throughout the game. Edina scored a couple early and HF never really fought back. I made the comment last week, HF does not play much of a team game. They get rushes up ice but rarely get set up in the offensive zone when at even strength. And they get lots of dumb/lazy penalties, they have almost twice as many penalty minutes as their opponent this year (56-30).

Good to know, we'll see two teams with similar styles of play when CDH comes to the Victoria Ice Palace tomorrow night. Raiders not as penalty prone but don't get much sustained zone time....

Do they still serve pizza between periods? When my son played there a few years ago they had enough Davanni's to feed all of the SW Metro....

Game report on last nights game was simple they jumped out to a 3-0 lead with the third goal bring a back breaker. The next 2 periods was an even game. The next time we play Edina it will be s different game. Can we say that either team really dominated?

Looks like that fits my point perfectly. Warroad is class A. I went back 3 years since the program stood on it's own. The point is there is a strong tradition of not beating teams ranked in the top 15.With a record of 1-11-1 and 54% of those loses the have been shutout. It's one thing to beat Delano, Hutch and Waconia. It's something very different to beat Edina, Tonka, Andover, Stillwater, and Hill.

Game tonight will decide South Suburban big dog. Rosemount vs Lakeville South.

Some good ones tonight....
  • Benilde @ Stillwater
    Maple Grove @ Wayzata
Rogers @ Andover (they hung with the Hornets, can they do the same with the co #1?)
    Hill @ Edina
Holy Angels @ Orono (the Stars are young and talented)
BTW Chisago didn't need to worry about goaltending Tuesday night - dropped 12 on Mahtomedi over the last 2 periods. I wonder what happened between period 1 and 2?

This is hilarious.

Let me try your logic.

"Game report on the 11/20 college football game between Michigan State and Ohio State was simple "they" jumped out to a 49-0 halftime lead with the 7th touchdown being a back breaker. The second half was an even game (the game finished 56-7). The next time "we" play Ohio State it will be a different game. Can we say that either team really dominated?"

You're being generous here. Gentry Academy was single A when they defeated HF at HF last year.

Tough loss for the my Fire tonight CDH is a very good program. Goalie had a tough night, Randy didn’t play Blair. You will see line changes are needed badly I’m sure Randy will be working on it tonight. Just have to get the right combination lines together. Trojans are next.

If I'm a HF parent I'm starting to wonder why a team with "this much talent" is running a 0.0% on the Power Play. Could it be that maybe the coach isn't putting his talent in the right spot?

Great game by both teams last night, HF had something to prove and beat the a top ten team Trojans. That give us 2 wins and a tie vs top ten teams.

Anybody see other good games yesterday.

I am curious if anyone attended the Andover vs Warroad game or heard a report. They handled SSP it looks like and then the quick turn around game. The score was close till the third with Andover. Can Warroad play with anyone as Moosepaw claims or were they just lucky?

Correction: HF has 1 win against AA top 10 team. Warroad is Class A.
Just the facts.
