Non-Bias Games of the week

Post by girlshockey4ever » Mon Jan 02, 2023 9:35 pm

I couldn't think of a better title. But I'm glad someone stepped in and got rid of bashing people. Anyways....back to games of the week!

Tuesday

Prior Lake vs Jefferson- Big Section 2AA implications on this one. Both teams fighting for possible 3-4-5 (Along with Shako). #3 doesn't have to meet Tonka until the finals. See below

Edina vs Stillwater- Not a section rival but should be a great game. No St. Martin for Ponies. But Stillwater coming off a close game vs Gentry. Edina coming off two years in a row of not being in the holiday tournament finals.

River Lakes vs Northern Lakes- Who has the better lakes? Battle of 6A

Rogers vs Maple Grove- Rogers just beat Blake. Which at the beginning of the year I would have thought was impressive...but Blake is realizing that having a good top line is not enough to compete. Maple Grove goalie playing great at holiday tournament.

Eden Prairie vs Wayzata- In an amazing turn of events the two largest schools in the state can't field teams that are anywhere close to 500. Let this be a lesson to youth associations everywhere. Always be building your numbers. Never rest.

Thursday
Metro-South Vs Eastview- Not an exciting game but I feel like these two schools were close to co-opping so that makes it interesting.

Austin vs Red Wing- Both teams have this game circled as the Big One!

Lakeville South vs Shakopee- Is South for real? Is Shakopee the #3 in their section. Time will tell.

Friday
Edina vs Warroad- Massive game. Not for rankings, sections or state seeding....but it's just huge.

Hill Murray vs Moorhead- Both teams lost 2-1 to Tonka in OT. Both teams have goalies that were playing decent. HM Coming off a big win at their tournament. Moorhead coming off a drumming at the hands of Andover and Maple Grove. Out scored 12-1 in two games.

Saturday
Shakopee vs Prior Lake- Ohhhh baby. Biggest game of the week with playoff implications. Who will be #3. Shakopee took game one but if the lakers get the W they have a very strong case to be #3. Great work seeing as how they have been a doormat for years.

Wayzata vs Buffalo- Not much going on here, but for these two teams it might be the only conference win they get.

Farmington vs Apple Valley- Big game for both teams to help bolster section 3AA seeding

Gentry vs Holy Family- Holy family coming off a drumming at the hands of Tonka. Gentry still riding high after an impressive 15-0 win over Redwing. HA

Champlin Park vs Elk River- Battle of the two teams that everyone thought were going to be better than they are.

Add another interesting Tuesday matchup:
No. 5 Class A Orono vs. No. 9 Class AA Benilde-St. Margaret's

It will be interesting to see if the absence of the girls playing in the U18 Worlds will have any significant impact over the next couple of weeks.

Biggest impacts will probably be on Hill-Murray's defense, and the lack of activity for whoever runs the Tonka penalty box.

Methinks we're going to see just how important St. Martin is to the Ponies' success.....

Someone will have to fill a ton of minutes on the Pioneers' blue line too.

Did the Skippers recruit enough depth to beat Edina before Team USA returns? Gotta love it if you're the Hornets....get Stillwater and Minnetonka minus top players.

Last one....Maple Grove is pretty good but they'll get Andover and Holy Family without Strom.

Watch out for my HM team. 6-1 winners over a good Moorhead team. They are starting to put it together. Will be very interesting to see them tomorrow against Warroad.

The tie with Warroad is a good showing for Hill with Hause overseas. IMO she should be a favorite for Ms Hockey but isn't getting alot of steam. Wish they were playing Gentry pre-Sections.

Maple Grove vs Andover- Can Leafs give them a run. Not without their goalie. 5-1 Andover.
*Nice gave by Maple Grove. 3-2 Andover. The state tournament should be less lopsided this year.

Fort Frances vs International Falls- The battle of the Great White North! Go USA!
*Canada with their first win of the day.

Alex vs Moorhead- Nice section 8 battle
* Moorhead wins. Will be #1. Will get to state tournament. Will be unranked in tournament. Will be tough out in quarterfinals.

Woodbury vs PCG- Nice east metro game. Woodbury playing well with young talent.
* Woodbury can't get it done.

USA vs Canada 1pm cst. Wednesday. Go USA!
*Katie LaChapelle boasts an awful coaching record. AWFUL. 15–81–7 (.180) How on earth did USA peg her to coach this team?

You don't think winning 15 out of 103 games in Worcester is a good record?

She actually only has 14 wins at Holy Cross. Looks like the Crusaders got by BU at Fenway last week after Katie and the U18 women left for Scandinavia.
Massalsa, what say you?

I've noticed that during the games she talks way more with her assistant than the players she's supposed to be coaching. :?

HM with a nice 2-1 win over Andover. For some reason, they always give Andover a great game.

HM handles Maple Grove 4-1 today with a nice road win. They really have matured through the year. Emily Pohl is one of the better players as an 8th grader. I have to imagine they'll be ranked in the top 2 to start the year next year.

I didn't know a player was out for MG. I did watch the game. MG did have plenty of shots, but HM had better success forechecking and producing chances. Maybe they'll get a chance to meet again...

MG Powerplay numbers are inflated. There are two games in which the HUB lists them at PP: 1 for 0.

That is why they are running that high.
