Elliott-Sorry but I need to correct you. This is Section 3A not 4A.

Also if these are your rankings there are a couple of teams I have to take exception to there ranking.

First of all Silver Bay will be very competitive. They've been competitive the past couple of years and were fairly young last year.

I don't see Roseau being the #2 team. Maybe if they still had Sarah Erickson but they lost a whole bunch from last year, yes they took third in state at 14U but they will be young.

The bottom half is always a toss up. But I would say

Warroad-Good first line, depth from champion 14U team, all defense back, very good goaltending. How will they deal without GiGi. Could they possibly be better without GiGi?

Crookston-Everyone back, Section Semi-finalist last year, large senior class, great goaltending, very good defensemen. Decent forwards.

Hibbing-Pete just reloads every year, how will they deal without Kayla Hagen?

I think these 3 teams will be there at the end. Everyone else I think has a lot of questions.

Fergus Falls-Lost a great goaltender, and their best 3 skaters.

Roseau-Without Sarah Erickson?

Park Rapids-Play extremely hard but is there enough talent there

Thief River Falls, East Grand Forks, Lake of the Woods, International Falls, Detroit Lakes, Silver Bay-All have decent players coming back but what is there goaltending situation going to be.

Eveleth and Babbitt-Will probably struggle to compete.

Thank you for correcting my typo - always proof before you hit the enter key.

But thanks for the input - I know the teams close by a little but not much about some others - it is a big section.

But thought we should talk a little about the north on this board.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... liott70 at: 10/4/05 3:18 pm

I'll take Hibbing in this section. They are better than people think. They have a lot of young talent. No, they don't have a Ms. Hockey candidate, but they have about 7 or 8 girls that would make anyones varsity! Not to mention they know how to win more than any team from the North! Mark my word, they will be at the state tourney this year... again!

Hockeyhead

#29 from Hibbing last year was pretty strong (and young) F from what I recall...

We can all agree on the top 4. I can't see Crookston in the top 2 though. I think that they will be in front of Roseau without Erickson. Hibbing and Warroad are as good as almost any team in state they prove it year in and year out! They are great programs! Crookston is not even close. BUT!!! They are closing fast! They battle very hard but have not beaten the GOOD teams yet...

Losing Gigi will hurt and Kayla no doubt but every kid on those 2 teams can play at a high level. They expect it, their coaches expect it and they have been raised hat way for years there...

Crookston is a team that wil beat a few solid teams but they need to prove themselves with some more seasoning for a few years...

Not impressed with S Osbourne personally... they have a few strong players but no stud, so why would they pass up Warroad and Hibbing?

Rankings

Crookston's first line of Coauette, Wheelhouse, Carlson and Warroads first line of Mosher, Roberts, Reinhart are a wash.
Osborne vs Pieper is a wash.
Crookston has better defense (who also score).
I believe Crookston is deeper (third line talent).
Could come down to second line vs second line in this battle.
Just don't know what Hibbing has yet, but feel that losing Hagen will hurt. Crookston had Hibbing on the ropes in the semi-final game last year, until Hagen took over in the third. Hibbing lost Hagen, Crookston lost no one, but never count Hibbing out.

AI

Got your drift. I know these kids and don't feel it is a wash. We just disagree. Only time will tell. The past says I am right... Crookston could prove me wrong, BUT THEY HAVEN'T YET. I have seen these Crookston girls this summer and all though they are each good that you mentioned I just don't see them as game breakers. I was unimpressedwith the game Hibbing played against Crookston as I was also in the state championship game. Last year Crookston lost to Warroad 8-1 and 4-1 I think... I just don't see it happening... Warroad won the conference then Bemidji, then Moorhead then maybe it was Crookston? Their schedule's difficulty will only allow them to be so good. They did play SSP but gave up 8. I understand that it is harder to find good games up where they are though? They will be better but I don't see the big leap frog over the PROVEN teams in that conference and section... sorry. They are good but not good enough, yet.

I had to go back... AI tell me ONE big win that Crookston has had? Who have they beaten that is good? They have yet to beat the top 3 in the conference and the top 2 in the section?

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... r@mnhs>The machine took my quarter at: 10/4/05 6:14 pm

First of all Machine we are talking about this year not previous years. Crookston has had a high school program for two years not a lot of history to go on. So you're right they probably haven't won a real big game.

Last year they did play a pretty good Bemidji team and lost 2-1, from what I remember about that game though Crookston's best defenseman didn't play the third period due to injury. And the Osborn girl who didn't impress you looked pretty good.

Osborn also went to Lake Placid and statistically was the second best goalie there. And much closer to the best than to the 3rd best. I don't care how you stop the puck, just stop it.

Warroad won 8-2 first game of the year, and Crookston didn't play them again. But ask Scott Knutson who he's glad he didn't have to play at the end.

Also ask Pete Hyduke what he thought of his kids performance in the semi-final game. From what I read it was more what Crookston did right not what Hibbing did poorly.

First line for Warroad vs. First line for Crookston--People have seen more of the Warroad girls so obviously they think they are better. They are very good. We'll just have to wait and see.

Goalies are a wash, Peiper is good and I hear they have a young one that's very good also. Osborn is one of the top in the state and Crookston has a Senior also Amy Burke who could play at most Division 3 schools.

Crookston has a set of defensemen who were a minus 2 in the South St. Paul game last year. Good luck to Reinart, Roberts, and Mosher getting through them.

Crookston played 3 lines most of the year and all three can play at a high level. Warroad will rely on depth from there 14U team, How will they react?

Lot's of questions. They should be answered November 15th when they meet in Crookston. 1st game of the year for both teams. If you like girls hockey and live in the Northwest part of the state you should be there.

Don't mean to leave out Hibbing. They are the defending champions and the team to beat. Should probably be the favorites going into the year.

Machine.
You have to remember that last year was only Crookston's second year of varsity hockey, yet they beat a very respectable Roseau team in the quarterfinals (2-0). Granted, they lost to Warroad and SSP (two teams who have had varsity programs for quite awhile). I believe Crookston finished the season at 21-6. Not to bad for a second year varsity program. They also struggled with injuries (which all teams do I guess). 4 or 5 of the losses were to ranked teams. I'm not sure how many years of varsity hockey that you believe they have to have under their belt before they become good or if their is a required number of years that a program has to put in to finally become respectable? I believe THESE girls are now ready to take the big step. They have plenty of confidence after last season. To say that this program has not performed in the PAST, well, there has only been two seasons, so, in retrospect, there has been no past. You should probably check how many players this team has coming back that made all-conference and honorable mention all-conference. One made honorable mention all-state. I wouldn't count this team as a third place finisher just yet.

I too can't see Crookston being put in three, I see the top three as a toss up for Crookston, Hibbing, and Warroad. Hibbing has Fenstermacher coming up, she'll put up the points this year. Warroad with Roberts, how good are the other two on her line? Warroad always tends to fall a little bit in the depth department. Crookston was just all around strong last year. They put up a heck of a fight against Hibbing.

As for the other teams? Roseau? I heard rumors they might not even have a team (rumors of course, everyone knows how they are). Silver Bay? International Falls? Thief River? Who do these teams have returning?

I've watched Jaime Fenstemacher come up through the years. She's a quality player that's very unselfish and she has a great attitude. Not sure what Hibbing has to go with her.
Robert's linemates are Reinhart, who is a very good/fast skater, and Mosher who I think is more of a role player.
Expect Warroad will have a very decent second line. Not sure what they will have for a third line.
I know Silver Bay has Huss and Downey, which are very, very good players. Not sure what they have other than that.

Hey there AI, It has been a while since we have butted heads. I see you are back on your C-town high horse. I will admit that you have all of your top players returning and probally some new faces that could contribute. I think Outstate fan said it the best when you meet Warroad in November it will be a good early indication of where your program is at. Maybe you could even make The machine a beleiver?
