Jones is the best player I've seen all year. "Hardest shot by far" Nope. Her slapper is still a few mph short of Maunu's.

There are some really petty, jealous people that have absolutely no FACTS!!!! My daughter has played for 2 years with Chelsey, and all the girls love and respect her!!! very much!!! She is a team player and her hard work and talent are paying off right about now! She is a mentor and I hope for nothing but good for her as she deserves the best!! GOOD LUCK HONEY!!!!!

this is my first post because i find the subject particularly intriguing. i know very little about the candidate and only witnessed her once (a less than spectacular performance at state;dont worry i didnt forget who she played).

in short, without question her violations should be a strike(or two) against her. to say that because shes talented, charming and "payed the price" for her sins, she should still deserve the award is flat out irresponsible. in my opinion its the equivilent of telling your young hockeyplayer that as long as your talented, nice to others and pay fines... drink up!

though no parent would say such a thing im not being as radical as you think. really ms hockey is a pagent, minnesota hockey's equivelent to miss america. which is sorta like what we wish all our athletes could be, again talented and charming. but we dont want our athletes to abuse alcohol. and though im sure shes not an alcoholic underage drinking is illegal.

this actually does filter into and contributes to other ares of her life. note that i am not talking about her specifically anymore but rather about any girl in such a situation. when you decide to abuse any vice of yours whether substance or anything else(i.e. gambling sex etc.) you are putting your team at risk and whether they like you or not. as far as talent, alcohol can effect that too, maybe instead of taking shots of brandy(or whatever) she could have added to 67,000 pucks or whatever that number was(a shameless pun i know). then we might not be argueing who has the best wrister slapper or otherwise.

i also think its unfair to the other, better behaved(or at least better at misbehaving) girls who deserve just as much as anyone who likes to party. when you make a bad choice(or two) and get caught(twice) yes, you should be forgiven. but id say a scholarship and statewide attention is forgiveness enough. northeastern is a good school and not many people with a gpa of 3.1? are often offered such an oppurtunity. so to all the candidates... no matter your criminal record team popularity or shot speed you have acheived a feat regardless of whos name gets called, and should a committee decide not to take into consideration the mishap(s) of a candidate fine so be it its not like we are condoning the behavior... . and to those who know and love our subject of conversation sorry if this doesnt make sense to you theres nothing wrong with love blinding our sensibility from time to time...just kidding

It is like reading a National Gossip Magazine where certain individuals will beat one subject to death. Even to take the time to research and post a GPA!
Using the word CRIMMINAL was over the top. Ms. Jones made a name for herself in the state of Minnesota Hockey leaders long before her normal teenage mistake ever happened. For those of you who continue to draw on the negative side of Ms. Jones I hope all of you don’t live in “Glass houses”. I can’t think of a better person to teach and mentor a young child or a teammate about making good choices and consequences than Ms. Jones.

Next time you attend a movie, church or even sporting events…look around you there are probably real criminals sitting next to your children.

deyde8 QUOTE: a less than spectacular performance at state;dont worry i didnt forget who she played)

Keeping Ms. Jones bottled up was what EP did best. I think the debate of the topic needs to be turned away from specific reference to any player. Many players have violations, some we won't (and shouldn't) hear about. These are issues that the players need to work through with some privacy I believe.

The last think with Jones' name attached that needs to be said here is this:

Jones is a great hockey player. Period.

It's probably not fair to discuss within this thread the general topic of how we should address the broader issue as the name of this thread is innapropriate for this discussion (I'm guilty of this too though)...

Can we let this topic die?

Rube, I agree that Stillwater has a lot of good players and will probably make it to State again in the future. I was referring to this year; without Jones, they would not have been able to beat NSP.

And how do you think NSP would have done without Thunstrom? Whats your point? Throw them both out of the game and Stillwater still wins.

I wasn't really impressed with her during the EP game. I thought the work ethic without the puck was a little lacking. But I did want to give her the benefit of the doubt because then she had six points against Moorhead and however many more against Mayo. Maybe she's the Spehar type where all she needs to do is have control of the puck for a second or two and it's in the back of the net. Speaking of which, I think Spehar had a 90 percent scoring rate in the '95 tourney. I remember the start of the '96 tourney too where East no more than won the face-off against Blaine and Spehar scored from a blue line pinpointer.
"Dream as if you'll live forever; Live as if you'll die today." --James Dean
