all-star eligibility

Post by hockeydad » Thu Feb 16, 2006 12:00 pm

Not sure, but I think if any junior plays in this game, she jeopardizes eligibility for next season.

I know in the past, the MSHSL is very stringent on their "all-star" rule. Players cannot play on "all-star" teams. The rule, of course, wouldn't apply to seniors once their senior season is over.

Someone should check on this soon, before there is a mistake made and the kid pays the consequences.

I think it has to do with receiving goods or services (travel, equipment, meals, awards/trophies, etc.) in excess of a $100 cash value.

I don't know that to be an issue here???

One of the metro area conferences used to do an all-star game like this with a skills competiton (maybe they still do???)....

Hmm...

In theory, the Junior Festival would put kids at risk if "All-Star" events were an issue in general, which we know isn't the case in the Junior Festival sense? But Jr Fest is after school gets out usually I think (June 13-16)... likely to facilitate visibility to college coaches... but tryouts are held in April/May usually...

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... ckeyfan at: 2/16/06 12:14 pm

The exception comes from USA Hockey - Olympic identification process which the HS has an out clause.

I don't know now...they used to be very strict about All-Star games, but that may have changed. I just looked at the eligibility page on the league web site and couldn't find anything.

As elliot said, the junior festival and other things would be exempt from the all-star rule because there was a clause that said events that were governed by the sport's national governing body were exempt.

Still, with all the rules on eligibility, it wouldn't hurt for a coach or AD to call the MSHSL office and find out. Just ask the Roseau volleyball coach what happens when you screw up with MSHSL rules.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... ckeydad at: 2/16/06 12:27 pm

Junior Fest is a MN/USA Hockey event and occurs during the allowed off season contact period.
I would still check with MSHSL to be sure.

I think the USA H designation is applicable to NDP, but not certian that the Jr Fest has been tagged as an olympic identification process???

Post by hockeyluver13 » Sat Feb 18, 2006 7:58 am

how do you put a low girl on the south team??? then you put the cloguet goalie on the north team, with roseau goalie on the south team, and a few more north/south mistakes. GIVINYATHEBUSINESS are you from Grand Rapids? I don't think so!!
