I'm off to a great start predicting. 2/2 and scores have been very close. Lightning give one up 20 seconds in and bounced back nicely.

Big Thanks to GR

Post by titleist » Sat Nov 17, 2007 11:38 pm

Wanted to thank Coach Rendle and Gundy for making our northern trek an enjoyable weekend for our kids. Thanks for arranging everything that you did and helping us accommodate 35 kids. You guys played well, and I like your chances of getting to the big dance again. Do you guys want to trade sections? Good luck the rest of the way!!

Decent start to the year for the Lightning. I expect the Lightning to improve all year and be a top 5-8 team by the end of the year.

What a great hockey game!

Lightning 2
Duluth 2

F/OT

Erickson and Gallop with the Lightning goals. Lightning outshoot Duluth 42-20. It was a great hockey game, good action on both ends. Both goalies, Bellamy and Havel, were fabulous. Erickson and Arola looked good at forward and Clafton looked great at D for GRG. I thought Duluth as a team looked very solid. I think they will contend in this section all year long.

I hear that Rapids is hosting a Tourny?

What teams are coming for this?

Might check it out depending on the times

GRH Coach of the Year?

Post by Mightydog » Wed Nov 21, 2007 1:54 pm

Do ya think Rendle will win another coach of the year? If so, will this would be an impressive task. Taking nothing away from the team , you have to admitt he is pretty solid. I see threads for the best boys coaches but nothing for the girls - maybe I just didn't see it. Why?

I can't answer why, but in my opinion, Pat Rendle is the best girl's coach in the state.

11/23 Alexandria at Grand Rapids 7:30
11/24 Alexandria vs Hibbing at Grand Rapids 2 pm

The Lady Cards are looking forward to the excellent competition this Thanksgiving weekend. They've never played Grand Rapids-Greenway to my knowledge and have a rivalry against Hibbing after losing 1-0 in OT at the State tournament.

My predicitions:
Alexandria 3 - GRG 1
Alexandria 2 - Hibbing 0

I had this posted on another thread.

Lightning look very good, but again need to find ways to score. Great game to watch, again. Hopefully another good one is in the works for tomorrow.

Fun game to watch. GRG dominated the entire game except for a few rushes. Alot of the shots by GRG were not very difficult. trying to go top shelf from the blue line, very easy shot to save or shooting into the chest of the goalie. Shots nonetheless.

It appeared the D for both sides played very well. Noticed GRG switched up the line combos in the 3rd period. Really didnt matter as the Lighning were pressuring ALEX all night

Final:

Lightning 5
Armstrong 2

GRG goals by Erickson (3) and Arola (2)

Some things I have never seen. Former Grand Rapids player Kersten Calder gets tossed for a major checking from behind that sent Jessi Stumo to the hospital.

At one point in the game #5 for Armstrong took exception to something said on the Lightning bench and proceeded to dive into the Lightning box, literally, and start throwing punches. The refs, who were obviously not paying attention, only gave her a two minute minor for roughing. Props to the Armstrong coach for making her take off her gear after the second period.

All in all, Lightning dominated the game once again.

Media,

Just one correction on the Alex/GRG game...I wouldn't say GRG out shot them badly. GRG had some shots on goal help from the men in scorers box. I thought Alex out played GRG in the second yet GRG came out of it with about a 12-7 shot advantage...I would say it was more Alex 12-5...For the game I would say GRG 33 Alex 24

the better team won, simple as that. I personally thought besides a few rushes by ALEX GRG out played them

Great game today. Weird moment like boblee said, never ever seen a girl jump the box and start swinging, she should have been kicked out on the spot, and most certainly after she threw her helmet. Also there was a check from behind by Armstrong that resulted in game misconduct, i saw an ambulance arrive on my way out, hope she is all right if it was indeed for the GRG girl, or for who ever the ambulance was for.

As for the game Erickson and Arola dominated, Erickson had a great goal, one of the nicer ones i have seen. If Erickson and Arola play like this every game things should look good for GRG.

Hibbing and Alex also played a great game, was cool seeing 3 state tourny teams at one tourny.

granted GRG outshot alex, I think the majority of those shots were around the top of the circle, which were obviously not a problem for alex. I personally dont think this game had any domination by either team and think that it could have gone either way, had alex got a little more wood on some of those shots around the net. Alex's first line constantly created many opportunities for themselves. I dont think you can say that this game was dominated and that they were totally outshot, Justice is a good goalie and those perimeter shots aren't going to cut it.

The Lightning certainly had more scoring chances than the Cardinals. I would guess they were about 7-3. It was a great game, but GRG was certainly the better team on the ice.

Arola can play like she did this weekend every game. That is one of her best traits, that she is steady, consistent. Erickson has done a MUCH better job of that this year. From what I have seen in three games, it looks like she is going to play that same brand of steady, consistent hockey all year.

GRG v. CEC on Tuesday. It's gonna be good.

I was wondering how Jessi Stumo is doing, I would hope she is alright.
