AA Semi Final- #2 Duluth East vs. #3 Edina

Post by allstatebenders » Thu Mar 07, 2013 4:28 pm

Who you got? Games at 6pm tomorrow at the x. Not liking Easts chances, they seemed sloppy against Moorhead while Edina looked ready to go. Ill day 4-3 Edina

It all depends on if East can play their physical game to slow down Edina's individual skill. They did earlier in the year so I'll take East by one, 4-3.

If it becomes a special teams game, I like East.

If Edina stays out of the box, I like Edina.

So true in all games, but it's more so the case in this one. Whoever plays better. Both teams can beat the other.

Probably as close as it gets to a toss up.
Be kind. Rewind.

Something about this match-up just seems perfect for a Friday night at the X. This will be the 4th time these two have met in the last 5 in Tourneys, with East holding a 2-1 edge. Going back a bit further, East leads this series 4-2 at State, and it includes some great ones--a Spehar hat trick in the semis in 1995, Edina knocking off undefeated East in the 1997 title game, and East's OT winner by Alex Toscano two years ago.

East will need to pick it up a bit from their effort today to pull this one out, but with their defense and the knowledge they can beat this group (as shown in the Schwan Cup), they can pull it off.

This is going to be a great game. I do not know who is going to win. Semifinal Friday is shaping up to be a fun night.

Not really much of a match up with Edina winning 4 to 1

Hurley = best offensive player in tourney. I wonder if East will have trouble scoring like they did today?

After yesterday, I have to pick Edina. DE during warm-ups looked like they did not want to be there. They played flat and barely got by Moorhead who is bad. Edina will see more than Hurley come out and take it to them. 5 - 2.

If the teams play like they did yesterday im not sure edina wins since East did a good job in there own zone i thought while edina played quite poor defensively. That being said since it does not matter how they played yesterday i think this one could go either way. If edina tightens up defensively and stays out of the box they will win but if not i think East will win this one. Im predicting whoever wins this game will win the championship game too.

Unfortunately I was working and didnt get to watch the Duluth East v Moorhead game so I can't speak specifically to how Duluth performed. I'll say this about Moorhead: that team comes to play in the State Tourney. They always seem to pick up their game once they get down here. So I wouldnt read too much into that game.

I'll take Duluth East 4-3

East's "flat" play yesterday was more or less intentional. All season long, when other teams have run an effective trap and played good D, they've been perfectly content to play dump-and-chase, grind out an ugly goal or two (maybe a few more if they get more power plays), and then coast to victory by hanging on in the 3rd. It isn't pretty at all, but it's a style that fits this team's skill set well. Just because it isn't exciting doesn't mean it isn't smart hockey.

That said, Edina is a completely different animal, and East will have to play a very different game today. I agree that penalties will be huge; if the East PP only gets one opportunity again, they may struggle to generate enough chances.

Tough call on this game... Edina is the one team in the tourney that can beat any team in the field. They could also lose to any team in the field. All depends on their level of intensity, ability to stay out of the box and getting Benjamin to make at least the routine save.
