Class A Championship: Hermantown vs. STA

Post by karl(east) » Sat Mar 09, 2013 10:42 am

Figured we should get a game thread going for this one. I suspect even the Vanellis hope Hermantown can make this a good game.

The winner is a fore-gone conclusion. The real question is?

Does Hermantown score?
Does Hermantown keep it from becoming running time?

What - no poll??

STA has to be fresher than any team left in the championship rounds. I thought that the tight, physical game East played against Moorhead would be their undoing against an Edina team that coasted on Thursday. This game sets up much the same way. I think Plante is a good enough coach to will and cajole his club into winning one game at state all by himself, but did it occur yesterday?

Seems to me that Hermantown's only chance is to get an early lead or at least keep it close well into the 3rd period. Can they rattle the boards by punishing STA players into them? If they do these things they can win. Otherwise, the Cadets may just wear them down and the wearing down could come early. That stated, I'll take the Hawks - more out of hope than conviction. Especially since the AA final holds zero interest for me.

To me, Hermantowns only chance is to hit em in the mouth right away... then somehow keep it close till the third, and hopefully their coach has been preaching third period all season.... that, and an outstanding game by the goalie, and a defense that smells blood... I'm actually gonna watch..because I also have no interest in the other final.

There we go. Exactly how I would have phrased it.

If the Hermantown player had gone completely down the Hawks could've had their 2nd penalty shot of the tourney.

Disappointing power play for the Hawks, and now a soft penalty call going the other direction.

Great 1st period by Hermantown. You could argue they had as many scoring chances as STA did, although STA controlled more of the play. Would have been nice for H-Town to get one more on some of those turnovers STA committed in their own end.

STA can bleed. They are human!

Wait...

I thought that was hydraulic fluid!!

Great period by both teams; however, the first period gave Hermantown A LOT of confidence and momentum. Let it ride in the second, Hawks!

Hermantown has to be pretty happy with that period. Can they keep it up for two more? They do need to stay out of the box, though; their PK that period was far too adventurous.

Yup. You cannot give STA chances on the powerrplay. Can't do it. And if can get STA in the box you have a fighters chance

Wow. Two quick goals for Hermantown. They are buzzing right now. Do NOT let up because I don't believe for a minute STA wont get two more goals in this game.

Hermantown needs to get out of this 2nd period without giving up a goal. Do that and all the momentum is with Hermantown going into the third.

And as I'm writing this H-Town takes a slashing penalty. Cannot do that!
